Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Ryan LaFlare
The referee for the debut of Argentinean Santiago Ponzinibbio and Ryan LaFlare is Mario Yamasaki. They touch them up. Ponzinibbio lands an early kick as LaFlare came in. Nice leg kick from LaFlare and Ponzinibbio tries to counter with a spinning backfist, which is errant. LaFlare shoots in and just goes right through Ponzinibbio in taking him down, and he immediately gets into mount. Ponzinibbio slips free and now in butterfly guard. He pushes off with his knees, but LaFlare immediately drops his hulk back on top of his with pressure. Right back into mount for LaFlare, as he is relentless. Now LaFlare working some ground and pound, and drops a couple of big elbows on Ponzinibbio. LaFlare going for an armbar, and for his efforts he gets reversed. LaFlare immediately able to regain his top position, and is working n Ponzinibbio's guard. Ponzinibbio finally able to stand up on fence, but he gets blasted with a huge right hand that looked to have hurt him a little bit. Ponzinibbio lands a kick, and right on cue LaFlare shoots in and tackles him to the ground. That was too easy. Ponzinibbio able to stand back up, though, and they return to center. Ponzinibbio a little hesitant, and perhaps a little fatigued after surviving on the ground for much of that opening round.
LaFlare remained standing through the break. He still looks fresh as they touch gloves to begin second. LaFlare throwing kicks in volume in the middle, and following up with his right hand. He's bringing some pressure. Once again Ponzinibbio misses with a spinning backfist. LaFlare comes in high with a kick, which misses, but then the New Yorker takes Ponzinibbio to the mat, where he did the damage in the first round. They scramble, and Ponzinibbio stands up along fence, eating a short elbow as he does. Ponzinibbio just not able to get anything going offensively. Inside kick from LaFlare, followed again by right. He's changing levels, too. Ponzinibbio breathing heavy, and throwing isolated shots. Ponzinibbio's hands are pretty low. He's huffing air. LaFlare comes over top with a left, which crashes into Ponzinibbio's forehead. Now here comes Ponzinibbio at last, lunging forward with a barrage of punches. He's landing several of them, and as he comes to life LaFlare wheels out. Ponzinibbio's confidence is now back. He's standing at distance, and lands a couple of shots. LaFlare has seen enough, and takes Ponzinibbio down. He immediately advances to half guard, and he is working some punches into his midsection. Crowd voicing their disapproval. They'll end the round in that position.
LaFlare lands a loud kick to Ponzinibbio's body right off the bat. He has his left hand coiled and ready, but Ponzinibbio is moving a little better than he was to begin the second round. Again, LaFlare goes high then low with his kicks, still varying his striking. Ponzinibbio looks bushed again, keeping his arms low, and he gets slammed down by LaFlare with emphasis (and ultimate ease). Side control for LaFlare, and he is trying to pin Ponzinibbio's arm down with his knee. Now he's dropping elbows into Ponzinibbio's grill, but nothing too big. Ponzinibbio doing a good job of tying up LaFlare's punches on the ground. Wow, LaFlare catches Ponzinibbio with a huge knee that sends him reeling back into the fence onto his butt. He is stunned. LaFlare jumps on him and goes for the finish, landing show after shot, but Ponzinibbio hanging on. LaFlare now dropping elbows, hands, more elbows. Somehow Ponzinibbio able to stand up and wheel out of there. The crowd lets out a roar. And now he catches LaFlare with a big shot that drops LaFlare! But he just doesn't have enough fuel in the gas tank to do anything about it. He's exhausted. He goes in and tries to position himself for a omaplata, but LaFlare is able to reverse and the fight ends in the familiar position of LaFlare on top doing work.
