Brian Ebersole vs. James Head

Round 1:
Mario Yamasaki is the third man in for this fight. Ebersole makes a half-hearted shot for a takedown and Head sprawls it. The scenario repeats. Head lands a right to the body and a knee. Head opens up and had Ebersole covering up, but he lets up. Ebersole lands a solid right to the body and left to the head. Ebersole with a couple kicks to the body, again sprawls for a takedown and again doesn't get it. Head transitions from a front face lock to a guillotine. Ebersole gives Yamasaki the thumbs-up, escapes the hold, and ends up in Head's half-guard. Final minute, Ebersole gets up, lands a big right hand. Ebersole goes for a cartwheel kick, which Head parries.

Round 2:
An Ebersole takedown attempt once again ends with Ebersole stuck in a front headlock. Back to their feet. Pace has slowed a bit. Ebersole connects with a straight left hand and follows with a body kick. Ebersole with an uppercut. Head with a solid left hook, Ebersole misses a big right. Ebersole sure is committed to the takedown, but he once again doesn't get it. Two minutes left. Ebersole with an uppercut. Ebersole's being Ebersole-y enough to keep Head from finding his rhythm in the standup. Head lands a knee, but the exchange ends with Eberole in Head's guards. Ebersole lands a couple shoulder strikes. Head sweeps and ends up on top of Ebersole in the closing seconds.

Round 3:
Ebersole, who's fighting for the second time in a month, looks like he's running out of gas. Twice he goes for takedowns, and both times gets nothing. I think that makes him 0-for-771 on the fight. This will not make the short list for fight of the night. Head gets Ebersole's back as they're standing, scores a trip, but can't do anything with it. They're back standing with just over two minutes left. Hey, whaddya know, Ebersole badly misses with a takedown attempt. Back to their feet. Crowd begins jeering with about 90 seconds left. in the closing seconds Ebersole ends up in side control, but time runs out before he can do anything with it.

James Head def. Brian Ebersole via split decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
