I was watching a program on the History channel last night, "Pearl Harbor: 24 Hours After". It was so interesting to see film footage and hear how FDR handled everything including his speech which he wrote himself because none of his speech writers were available.
It took several hours before the President finally received a detailed report about how devastating the attack had been to our military fleet and personnel. It really struck me just how cut off we were here in the mainland due to the limited means of communication available at the time. The President had no idea at that point if Japan was going to invade us or what their next target might be. Scary times much like today!
