Leviathan, of which their were many, is just a really old word for a large sea dwelling animal.
The Ikon of the Leviathan is what spawned fictious monsters, perhaps the most famous from the norse would be the Kraken
I suppose you could liken it in the same way you would a serpant, to Lucifer, but I personally think that is stretching it a bit. Which I could, I suppose explain away the last verse...but no such animal existed with those perameters, well not in the Temporal realm...A sea monster, that is a fire breather
