The Merciful Muslim 1187
So Jerusalem swapped hands several times during the crusades. This was the trigger for the Third Crusade that was launched from England under King Richard.
Saladin, an Islamic Leader and Military strategist managed to conqure Jerusalem, the custom was to execute the defeated religion in order to cleanse the place.
But Saladin decided that he would not kill any Christian after the City was captured...instead he ordered his men to use Rose Water to purify the sanctuaries instead of Blood.
It was the first time a Jihadist had decided to show mercy rather then judgement.
King Richard the Christian...was not so...nice. He two made promises to grant non-combatants in Islamic Cities, along the route To Jerusalem, mercy. Unfortunatley, unlike Saladin...he couldnt help himself, and massicred all the cities that surrendered along the route.
Richard and the French who were helping the crusade, never made it to Jerusalem. Instead, outside a nearby town, whilst ill, he tried diplomacy instead, it was only partially successful. Saladin refused to even meet with Richard...why? Because Richard wasnt able to keep a promise...and Saladin was. Richard Massicred Cities, Saladin did not. He did however, send gifts to Richard, like fruit and supplies. But as soon as Richard was better....he tried to use the sword to fight once more.
Richard massicred that nearby town. thats why they call him "lionheart" I believe the town was a sea port
There was a deal, exchange the prisoners for a Relic, the remaining wood from the crucifixiton. But Saladin kept stalling on the transaction. So Richard decided to kill them all. All of them. This is a warcrime according to middleaged warfare. Prisoners are either kept, or they are exchanged...they are not murdered.
So Saladin sent the cross away from jerusalem and it vanished...noone has seen the relic since it dissapeared in response to Richards warcrimes.
Anywhoo...he never took jerusalem, and didnt get far with diplomacy and gave up LOL
He died on his return trip to England somewhere in Europe
Jerusalem would remain under Islamic Control for several further crusades, and long after Saladin had died.
I believe that people, on both sides of the Faith divide are far LESS spiritual then they were. I think this is a sign that Nathans ideal of entropy is true in the spiritual sense. Christians cant even be motivated to fight enmass anymore, and Jihadists are no longer capable of mercy. :unsure-1:
Saladin only let the people go free because they bought their freedom from him.
Saladin also came to power through having his rivals assasinated including an attempt on a 12 yr old boy.
Richard was a Frenchmen with little regard for the written word of God he cared more for greed and the pope.
He was an English Monarch that couldn't even speak English.
Well there was that :ninja:
I get tired of him being portrayed like this great Muslim because of how kingdom of heaven portrayed him.
Salahadin was a butcher just like every othe medieval ruler. He was responsible for the muslim desecration of the holiest of Jewish and Christian cities.
I'm not saying the Catholics where much better sometimes they where much worse =)
Just saying lets not be fooled by the snake, Islam is evil and so are the people that spread it through violence. The entire faith was spread with blood and salahadin was one of the biggest blades behind it.
So what he murdered his way to the top, it was how it was and he did what he had to do for his dynasty and empire. And lets face it, whoever he deposed it was probably for the best. I don't hate on him for it.
In addition Dante's inferno, his book he puts Saladin in purgatory alongside the other pagan ancients because the Christian world quite liked Saladin.
And not everything about the Middle Ages is dark, gloomy and tortuorous. There was as much learning, intelligence and innovation than at anytime. and there was some fine rulers and some bad ones.
It was a brutal age but thats what that lived in and i don't judge them for it.
In fact the greatest atrocities in my mind have all happened in recent centuries. We only have to look at the millions lost in the great wars to see that.
Saladin was only fighting other Muslims and Christians in the Holy Land, as much as i support the Catholic cause out there, for when they tried to get the Holy Land, i equally understand Saladin's right to defend it!
Anyway, i gotta write an essay on Richard and Saladin very soon, so ill be doing some proper historical research and then i'll pop in with some more information.
Whilst Islam was spread by the Sword let us not forget how Christianity was spread. By Imperialism...The Roman Empire, wasnt Holy in its Creation. The British Empire was no Saint....and the Spanish...well they were the worst...Meso and Latin America were brought Christ by the Conquistador....and The real Christians are the offsprings of thos settlers...because...when those who were supposed to convert didnt...They were removed :ninja:
I think that Islams Crown Jewels would have to be Constantinople in the East and Jerusalem in the West....But Christianity in Meso America....why do you think all those guys at BTT speak Portuguese... (Portuguese and Spanish are IMPORTS, they are not the Native Tongue! I wonder how many of those Fighters can speak Mayan??? Imagine a Fighter who could speak something like that!! At least with the United States you can claim that there was no national Language because the tribes all spoke different variations of dialects....but the Rainforrests of the Southern Americas..they had MAJOR Civilizations...they were advanced.) Everywhere from The Base of Brazil to Mexico....
