today... my dojo opened...
my instructor was 23 years old at the time.. In that time we have generated several great black belts.. myself included.
In the time I have been at the dojo.. I know for 4 dojos that have opened and closed..
I walked into the dojo in 05 and it was the 4th or 5th one that I walked into .. and within an hour I knew that this was the place..
My son has earned his little dragon black belt.. and so has my daughter..(both kids are well on their way to earning Jr black belts) my wife earned her purple belt before she just burned out.. I went from my white belt to testing for my 2nd degree sometime this year...
I have earned my purple belt in BJJ, and my brown belt in Shuri-Te Ju-Juts.. (testing for shodan rank sometime after the first of the year)
I am testing for Completion Of the Art in Balintawak in August (Completion is BB level)
I went from 198lbs.. to a solid 170-175.. and have held that for 4 years.. I have become a senior instructor..
The first student that ever walked through the doors.. is still training...
I have been to South America to do teaching seminars... I have been invited to teach at other local dojos.. earned multiple state championships.. 2nd in the nation...
and I couldn't have done ANY of that without great instruction!!!
Happy Birthday OFK!!!
we have had students earn gold medals at the Jr Olympics..
congrats and happy b-day to your dojo .. you're right, the success rate of gyms/dojos aren't that great ... so they must be doing something right ..
