King James Bible 400th Anniversary

This year is the 400th anniversary of the King James Version of the Bible. Japanese-American painter Makato Fujimura has collaborated with Crossway Publishing to release an illuminated manuscript of the Gospels entitled The Four Holy Gospels. This link has a brief video clip showing Fujimura painting some of the artwork included in the book. It looks beautiful.

I have to say that I was geared up for negativity even before I clicked the link. But I changed my mind. I think I might like it.

I'm glad he explained each painting in relation to it's book/gospel. For this non artist, it made the paintings understandable and that much more beautiful. As always Play, very interesting.

The Letter Paintings are particularly beautiful.

PTM, have you seen the Saint John's Bible? These are also unique works of art; I got my husband the first 3 volumes for Christmas (there are 7, the last one has not yet been completed).

Knowing your love of books, you will appreciate these as well.

Flo, thank you for the heads up. I knew that such a project was begun a number of years ago and recently I saw that a set of the Bibles was presented to my alma mater; however, I was not aware that they had books available for sale. Does your husband like it?

He does, PTM, although he has just looked through them briefly. They are large books, 15x10, and the pages have a lovely, satiny texture.

In case you decide to get some, Amazon has the best prices (although for the quality of the books, the prices are very reasonable).
