What is Matt's fight day routine?

My fight day routine involves shopping for snacks for during the fight and taking a nap so I can actually stay awake to enjoy it!

But what does Matt do?

My routine is uncannily similar to yours, DonnaMaria.

I'd like to hear about Matt too.

From the fights I've gone to, he'll spend most of the day just relaxing, usually playing cards or watching TV in the hotel. He won't leave his room unless he has to do something for the UFC, but then it's usually straight there and straight back. He'll take a nap sometime in the afternoon, someone will order a meal for him from room service, and then it's just waiting around until it's time to go the arena.

What's your routine, Nate?:)

Thanks Nate!!!!!:) Then at the arena he does his warm up and everything? What does he eat? Does he carb load like my sister does before a marathon? Does he eat light?

Did he train at all yesterday? Or does he have a recovery period a few days before the fight?

Well MY fight day routine is right on target! Just woke up from a nap and now I'm headed to the store to get some goodies! :)

I can't wait! :frantics:

Mrs. Feder, you ask a lotta questions for someone from New Jersey.

:) I hope I'm not the only one to remember Rosanne Rosannadanna...just teasing, DM!

Yes, thanks, Nate, it's nice to know Matt's routine. I've been wearing my Team Hughes shirt since yesterday, I have butterflies and feel slightly sick with pre-fight anxiety. Sounds like Matt is more calm than a lot of us fans!

Yesterday was nothing but cutting weight, so he probably spent a lot of time in the sauna or on a stationary bike wearing a sweat suit. After weigh ins, he'd hydrate himself and go out for dinner. Most of his meals leading up to the fight are going to be very lean, light, and protein-heavy.

Here's the video of Matt cutting weight for the Serra fight, so it gives you an idea of what he goes through:

Yeah, I think it might have been in the old Ask Matt section, but I don't remember exactly.

Matt is such a good sport to stop and sign autographs and take pictures (and Audra is very understanding, having all the girls hugging on him!).

That weight-cutting routine is just torturous, Nate, I hadn't seen that video before. Matt is very stoic, I remember how some guys on TUF moaned and whined - or wimped out altogether. It seems like that process would put a strain on the heart? Or am I totally off-base about that? Why don't fighters just try to stay at their fighting weight?

If memory serves me correctly I think it was a turkey sandwich that Matt has to force himself to eat because he never feels hungry that close to the fight.
