Trying to figure out a good running time
Anybody have any idea what a respectable time is for a 5K (3.1 miles) run?
|
Well, that depends on your athlete level. 4-5 minute miles would put you near elite status. 7 minute miles is very respectable for your average runner. 9 minute miles is great for someone trying to get into better shape.

That's about what I thought. Thanks for the reply.

I'll be doing my first 5k in May. I hate running, but I'm in pretty good shape and it's for my dad's company and it's also for a good cause (brain cancer).
I never run, but in high school (3years ago) my best mile time was 6:55. We'll see how I can do on this 5k...haha |
There are several programs on the net called "Couch to 5K." They might offer a godd starting point.

4-5 minutes per mile, unless I'm on a motorcycle.
On another note, just recorded my personal best 5K on the rowing machine. 19:52. |
if it's a race you are really willing to pace/challenge yourself, aim for 7-8 mins a mile. I run daily now--and when i'm pushing myself, i can get my time down to 8 mins/mile.
Most of the time though, when it's just a typical day, i'll do 8-10 mins/mile. Building endurance is something that takes time. Keep at it! any fitness regimen takes time, but the yielded product is something to feel accomplished with:) |
