Stupid residents/prospective tenants wanting me to do my friggin' job, keeping me from watching the UFC :muttering:

Sorry, here's the results from Munoz/Grove:
MARK MUNOZ VS. KENDALL GROVE

R1 As expected, Munoz quickly scores a takedown, but Grove is back to his feet quickly and made Munoz pay with an uppercut that hurt him. As Munoz continues to work for a second takedown, Grove punishes him with hammerfists. Munoz wont give up on the shot, but they are separated when the action stalls. Grove sprawls out on a Munoz shot and nearly locks up a choke, but Munoz escapes and clips Grove with a couple punches. Munoz shoots again and gets caught in a guillotine choke, but once again escapes what looked to be a tight choke. Munoz wont give up on the takedown, and again gets caught in a guillotine, but escapes before the bell.

MMAWeekly.com scores the round 10-9 for Grove

R2 Munoz lands a strong right hand, but Grove drops him with a knee to the head from the clinch. Grove follows him down and takes Munozs back. Munoz escapes and starts ground and pound from Groves guard, punishing the body. Grove trying to kick Munoz off, but Munoz dives in and brutalizes Grove in a brutal assault until the referee stops the punishment.

Mark Munoz def. Kendall Grove by TKO (Strikes) at 2:50, R2

TERRY ETIM VS. RAFAEL DOS ANJOS

R1 They start off trading kicks, but Dos Anjos quickly switches to shooting in for the takedown, but gets caught in a guillotine choke on the way down. Etim combines the choke with a triangle body lock, but Dos Anjos remains calm, eventually popping his head out. Dos Anjos immediately passes to side control and starts kneeing. Referee Mark Goddard warns Dos Anjos for kneeing too close to the spine and stands the fight back up. They clinch and Dos Anjos trips Etim down, but lands on bottom. Etim starts working from Dos Anjos guard, but isnt able to amass much damage before the round ends.

MMAWeekly.com scores the round 10-9 for Etim.

This ain't cool, man! :frantics:

R2 Dos Anjos starts off with a couple strong inside leg kicks. They clinch and Etim lands a knee to the chin before getting taken down by Dos Anjos, who starts working from side control. Dos Anjos tries to gain mount, but moves back to side control and drops a couple hard elbows to the face of Etim then transitions to full mount. Etim quickly defends and gains half guard, but Dos Anjos moves back to side control and dropping elbows. He moves to north-south and tries for a Kimura on Etims left arm, cant get it, and then transitions to an armbar for the finish.
I guess that answer the obvious question of "Which is better: a BJJ Black Belt or a Lutre Livre Blue Belt?"

MATT HUGHES VS. RENZO GRACIE

R1 Neither fighter willing to commit early, both gauging range. Loud chants of Renzo roll through the crowd. Gracie launches a boxing combination, but Hughes pushes him against the cage and dirty boxes him for a moment before they split. Again they clinch and Hughes pushes Gracie to the cage, this time kneeing his legs. Gracie tosses him off and separates. They dance around the center of the Octagon, Hughes landing a few individual leg kicks, and Gracie trying to get his boxing started.

MMAWeekly.com scores the round 10-9 for Hughes

R2 Gracie tries to establish the jab, while Hughes goes back to his most effective move of round one, the leg kick, visibly stinging Gracie a couple of times early in the round. They clinch and trip to the ground, but are quickly back on their feet for the stand-up. Hughes again chopping at Gracies lead leg with the low kick. The crowd boos as theres still no sustained action midway through the round. Gracie finally lands a leg kick of his own, but eats a short left hook from Hughes, who then goes back to the leg kicks on Gracies lead leg. Hughes land a good jab-leg kick combo before eating a straight right. Gracie shoots and almost gets caught in a guillotine. They clinch and Hughes pushes Gracie to the fence as the round ends.

MMAWeekly.com scores the round 10-9 for Hughes.

R3 – Hughes again starts chopping away at Gracie’s lead leg with the low kicks and Gracie does nothing to check the kicks or move away from them. Hughes lands a straight right, and Gracie looks very frustrated, can’t seem to get anything going. Hughes pushes him to the fence, lands a few knees, then pulls him away from the fence, keeping his weight on him, then separates and rocks Gracie with a strong boxing combination, but doesn’t really push to finish. Hughes throws the leg kick and Gracie falls to the mat. Referee Herb Dean motions from Gracie to get up and Hughes actually extends a hand to help him up. They start up and Hughes kicks out the leg again dropping Gracie, who gets back up, but is wavering, just trying to finish the fight. Hughes drops him again with a right hand, but backs off, making Gracie stand again. Hughes then moves in and drops Gracie once again with a boxing combination and the fight is waved off.

Dana didn't even come into the ring to put the belt around Anderson! It was just handed to, I guess that was Ed Soares, from some guy. I think Dana said how he felt loud and clear with that!

The crowd was chanting Maia, Maia.... and booing Anderson. Anderson was apologizing saying, "I don't know what came over me....it was ring rust" Blah, blah, blah.... Is that what happened in the last two fights also?

Anderson has totally lost me as a fan right now.

What a shame to end these fights like this.....AGAIN!!!

Oh, and Magliotta actually stopped the fight at one point in the last round and warned Anderson that if he kept going round and round the ring, he was going to take a point away from him! I was getting dizzy just watching him play ring around the rosy.

Silva is terrible IMO. That's NOT what a Champion does. The UFC should impliment a "yellow card" like PRIDE did and take a sum of the fighter salary for stalling.

Anderson goes up to 205 where he has nothing to lose and fights. He defends his title and acts like a clown. Guess we will see what happens when Vitor comes at him and he has no choice but to fight.

This is the third straight fight (I think it's three) where he has done this. I didn't even realize Dana hadn't come in to put the belt around him until my husband pointed it out and we rewound to see what happened.

WOW!

Maybe some people will now see what I said about how competetive the LW division is. Frankie looked great tonight and showed why he is my favourite LW other than BJ. BJ didn't look terrible but training in Hilo instead of the LA camp he used for the last 2 fights, the hunger was not there tonight. I watched the card with some friends and said BJ didn't look right during the introductions. He needs to spend his training camps away from Hilo, he just looked a different beast against Kenny and Diego. Great fight though!

Anderson, what the hell was that? He'll be all business next time. Props to Maia too, Anderson may have switched off but Maia's face was busted up bad!

Matt looked great going back to orthodox like I've said he should do previously, those leg kicks were painful to watch! His hands are so much more effective from that stance too.

Really good show and even as a BJ fan, I'm so happy for Frankie right now. Across various forums I often feel like the only one who believes in him, and he proved me right tonight. Mad, mad props to 'The Answer'.

I was glad that Hughes won. I would have liked to see more of the violence that Matt spoke of on the countdown though.

Very displeased with Penn's performance. He certainly didn't look like the best lightweight ever. Not sure how long Edgar will hold this belt either.

Silva came across as a classless person.......What boggles my mind is how Silva got so upset at Maia for not "fighting" but everytime Maia layed down the best pound for pound fighter in the world wouldn't take a chance. Silva was avoiding Maia's strengths the same way Maia was avoiding Silva's.

exactly, no excuses! I was actually being sarcsatic about the greasegate thing though. Some of those judges seemed a little out to lunch with their scores, but at least this time they got the right fighter. Frankie was just the better, smarter, and hungrier fighter today. I don't know why BJ wouldn't try to take Frankie down. BJs corner was calling for it, but BJ instead did his best Andy Wang impression. It funny how mad BJ got at Andy on TUF for not lisening and taking the fight to the ground. Now BJ does the exact same thing, only this was worse cause it was for the title not some spot in a reality tv show. Who would have thought that Frankie was going to takedown BJ? I honostly thought that was going to backfire on him, but it didn't and I think they might have sealed the deal for him in a couple of those rounds.

Fighters have good days and bad days. No matter what injury he claims, it's not going to change the fact that he lost. Edgar seemed to have the best day of his career today as a fighter and it showed.

Lets face the facts. BJ Penn lost the fight and the LW title. Edgar won, no excuses needed for BJ, he will most likely come up with them on his own. I didn't get to watch the fights yet but BJ needs to give Edgar a lot of respect and credit for how hard he has worked and how great of a fighter he has become. That would be the respectful and mature thing to do.

Maybe we will see Penn - Edgar 2 in the near future?

(don't understand why BJ would stay in Hilo to train after how good he has been doing when he trained away from home)

I like Penn as much as the next guy......but was REALLY disappointed in his performance today. He just wasn't on his game......maybe he overlooked Edgar, not sure, but he certainly didn't look like the same Penn that dismantled Sherk, Florian, Joe Daddy, or Sanchez.

Im hating on Penn when a whole thread after the GSP fight got turned into "BJ is better then GSP cus he finishes fights" a few weeks ago!!! NO if penn fans can dish it out they can take it too then... Penn has nothing to do with the Hardy vs GSP fight but penn fans turned it into that!!!

exactly. they are the ones who talk all the crap about gsp and then act like they arent in the wrong for doing it. They whine and complain more than anyone else and now they call other people haters. i feel bad for bj but his fans do deserve this and maybe they can stop making incredibly stupid threads about how gsp isnt a real champion. as far as the silva fight goes I said in other threads that it would be like the leites fight and I guess that isnt too far from the truth. At least the Hughes fight was awesome.

As far as I've seen in this thread BJ fans have done nothing but give Frankie credit for a great performance. Stop talking crap. If anyone deserves criticism tonight it is Anderson Silva, not BJ nor BJ fans.

Frankie Edgar looked great. I think I big part of his plan was to not waste energy trying to take BJ down. If he didnt take him down immediatlely he let got and backed off. His head movement was great too. BJ couldnt find the range with that nasty jabl he has.

I didn't think Edgar did enough to win the fight, I also don't think Penn did enough to win the fight either. I will be really suprised to see that Frankie landed more punches and strikes than Penn. I thought Edgar had a good game plan, but I don't think he ever put Penn in any danger whatsoever.

Boring fight from both guys. Not why I pay to watch MMA.

Silva turned into a punk right before our eyes.

Hughes put together a great game plan, although I do believe Hughes has better overall grappling skills and could have won the fight going away on the mat. regardless, his leg kicks were just brutal, and the fact that Gracie didn't adjust proves to be he didn't belong in the same ring with Matt Hughes. Gracie is a great fighter, and grappling instructor, and one of the good people in this sport, but he was out of his league. He needs to go back and fight some more has-beens before stepping into the ring with Matt Hughes.

Overall I was bored throughout this whole fight card except for the last round in the Hughes fight, I believe it was the first time he TKOed a fighter on his feet, so congrats to Matt for that.

Great card on paper, just a horribly boring in reality. I blame Silva and Penn. Penn was a disappointment for sure, he was a better fighter than he showed tonight, and he certainly shouldn't think of moving up to 170 if he can't beat a 145 pounder. Again Silva is going to have to a whole lot to make up for his performance, totally unacceptable. He should be saddened with himself.

Silva=Disgrace. I was hoping that Wand Silva would get in Anderson's face after the match and that they would have a bad ass stare down, but that didn't happen.

I wanted to really think about everything before I posted my review.
But here it is.

Grove / Munoz.
Grove looked good, and even had Munoz in some trouble,
entertaining fight, Munoz just looked stronger, and maybe wanted it more.

Etim / Dos Anjos.
My only comment on this was the odd stoppage / stand up by Goddard.
First, he warns Dos Anjos not to "elbow the spine" after Dos Anjos knees Etim
in the ribs, then stands them up and takes a point.
Bio 101, I cannot knee your spine when you're on your back.
Goddard is from England, and so is Etim, thats what happened there.

Hughes / Gracie.
I thought Renzo looked great for the amount of time he has taken off,
but he just didn't have an answer for those leg kicks,
and IMO they made the difference in the fight, why he wasn't checking them.
Who knows. Great win for Hughes.

Edgar / Penn.
I thought Penn won 3 rounds pretty clearly,
either way I was NOT impressed with either fighter.

Anderson / Maia.
*yawn*
Anderson lost a lot of respect from me.
1. If you're going to dance and "taunt" somebody, You better bring it.
After all the noise in rounds 1 and 2 Anderson ran for a good 12 - 13 minutes.
Really AS? Come on.

2. Why wasn't a point taken for the bad mouthing going on?

3. Maia is a badass, he was outmatched, and couldn't get it down,
but had the decency to put it on the line and TRY.
Whatever judged gave AS all 5 rounds are INSANE.

I ws yelling at Penn the entire time to get in there and finish that fight. I already knew going into the last round he lost that fight if he didn't finish it. I was disappointed at his performace.

The Hughes fight I thought could be more exciting for the first 12 mins or so. I respect the game plan, but thought Hughes could have attacked when he was landing some shots, then just backed off. Seemed odd. Loved the finish though. Congrats for that.

Anderson Silva... lord. I was calling for him to be cut from the UFC. That was a completely disrespectful performance. I will NEVER buy a ppv with him on it, EVER. I bought this one mainly because Matt and BJ were on it, but regardless of who's on it next time, sorry.

I was just getting ready to post this but I saw it was already up. I still have not watched the fight, I'm not a big fan of sitting through a fight when I know the person I want to win has lost, and because of how the Silva fight went I was not in the mood to watch that. I will get around to watching them some day though. From everything I have read all the rounds were really close. As for why BJ decided to stay in Hilo, I read on another site that due to some weather his house was in some danger. Not sure if they were just playing around but if not it may explain why he chose to stay in Hilo for training. In the end it may have been a combination of not having a good training camp and BJ just having an off night. Everyone has those now and then, we saw GSP have one vs Serra, I just hope that BJ responds like GSP did. I really think this may be good for BJ, he was talking a lot about moving up and now he gets to focus himself where he is best and just work on getting the belt back.

have you heard anything about BJ and Marv having a falling out? I've been hearing rumors that BJ wasn't taking his training seriously by showing up late, not showing up at all, and not taking it seriously when he was there. So Marv stopped working with him prior to this fight. I'm not putting much stock into this rumor, but it would explain why BJ was in Hilo and why BJ seemed to gas in the fight.

"I personally thought BJ looked different from the beginning. "or was too busy with his home almost being swept away that he decided to stay at home and train."

"i didn't see the weigh-in photos for this one, so bj in the ring was the first time i saw him before this fight. i don't know if i was the only one who noticed and i don't know for sure that this is accurate, but i thought to myself "he looks flabbier than he did the past few fights when his cardio was up."

I was looking at the compustrike numbers. They have Renzo landing 30 power strikes. Did I miss something, where did he land anything other than jabs and a few kicks. Those numbers are very misleading and distorted in my opinion.
I think the Penn Edgar numbers are off too.

I am not surprised. I have been trying to tell Max that for a long time now.
