Who watched the debates tonight?

Romney killed it! The man knows his stuff!

I didn't watch it, but I heard that Romney did really well. Even Yahoo! says that Romney came out on top:

I wish you could have seen it, Nate. Mitt was totally prepared and countering everything Obama was saying. Even Bill Maher was tweeting about the President's less than stellar performance. I like this kind of forum where it's mainly the candidates debating with little interference from the moderator. They both went over their two minutes (Obama more so than Romney). Obama was the one who was going way over his 2 minutes, and then when Mitt tried to rebutt, Jim Lehrer would try to go on to something else, but Mitt didn't let him do that to him and he got his points in. I hope he doesn't let whoever the other moderators are in the next two debates pull any fast ones on him while giving the President all the time to speak.

I hope the other two debates go just as well for Romney. The only thing that worries me is what "surprises" Obama's campaign is going to come up with next especially now that Mitt won this first debate.

I thought Romney had the better arguments but when Obama finished by touting how much he has helped the middle class and will continue to do so I couldn't believe my ears. I'm thinking - what the heck has he done for the middle class? Bury us in more debt? Gas prices through the roof? Shove Obamacare down our throats? Gee, thanks prez.

the debate was real good ... mitt did an awesome job .. obama never really got on and didn't really offer many rebuttals to mitt .. i wish the moderator would have taken more control, both guys were going over their time and stuff, but i guess that is what made it interesting ... mitt came out like he needed to prove something and obama looked like he wasn't really into it .. there are still two debates right??? if this is mma, mitt scored a 10-8 imo ... obama came back a little at the end of the round, but not enough .. obama gonna have to come out hard in round 2 & 3 if he wants to keep his job

I thought Obama did better than I expected. Although they both told some lies (of course) and avoiding some things.

trying to put it in perspective for those who didn't see it ..

really? i thought obama would wipe the floor with him ... romney got some good practice against newt ... so i shouldn't be surprised ..

to me it honestly looked like 2008, but this time obama played the role of mccain and romney was obama .. LOL ..

What are you trying to say?

I liked that we actually got to hear more from the candidates themselves instead of a lot of time being taken up by the moderator. It's not fair to let Obama run over just because he's the President and then try to make up for time when the Challenger tries to respond. One liberal program host actually had the words counted, surprisingly, he was honest and reported Obama did take more minutes speaking.

VP debates were tonight. Who watched them and what are your thoughts?

My thoughts: I enjoyed the format they had in the first debate last week better than the way tonight's moderator did it. I don't think it was a good idea (looking back after the fact) to put Joe Biden at a table so close to the moderator and to Ryan. The moderator kept letting Joe Biden consistently and continuously interrupt during Ryan's time, and then she would abruptly interrupt Ryan also...she never did that to Biden, and she never admonished Biden "that he needs to wait for his turn".

I know what Biden was trying to do, he was trying to be the aggressor to make up for how poorly Obama showed last week. But like one commentator said afterward, "#2 had to do the job #1 failed to do last week." I found Biden's facial expressions while Ryan was speaking way over the top and very disrespectful; he came across awful doing that! He constantly interrupted Ryan, by talking and laughing out loud, and he looked like a loon constantly smiling like that. A total turnoff for me!

Despite Biden's antics, Ryan remained polite and respectful throughout.

I don't think there was any clear winner in this particular debate. I agree with Charles Krauthammer's analysis for the most part (paraphrasing): "If you listened to it by radio, you would think Biden had won; if you watched it, you would think Ryan had won. Biden won on Medicare and Afghanistan; Ryan won on the economy and taxes, but there was no clear winner."

And it didn't seem to make a big impact with Frank Luntz' focus group of undecided voters, some/most were still undecided after watching Biden and Ryan.

I think we're going to have to wait for the next Presidential debate and see what happens with the townhall format.

i enjoyed the debate .. yes, biden did interupt and make goofy faces, but i think ryan's continuous smirk was just beaming with arrrogance ... i don't think there was a clear winner, i think biden had the edge ... but i don't think the vp debate is meant to come out with a winner per se ... they both did their jobs ... biden stopped the bleeding imo .. or slowed it from the last debate .. and ryan didn't come off as an incompetent fool (not implying he is one) ... i think biden answered the question about abortion better imo .. and called out ryan on his inconsistincies which barack didn't do last time out ...

the ball is now back in the court of the big boys ... will barack fight back .. or will mitt give us a replay of last time .. i think obama knows what he has to do ...

should be fun!!!

I don't think Ryan meant any disrespect with the smile, but I do wish he had maintained a neutral face. Biden on the other hand was clearly dissing Ryan throughout the debate with those maniacal smiles and laughing while Ryan was speaking. It was beyond the pale and so disrespectful. I feel like he was trying to make up for Obama's fail last week, but I think it backfired on him. What are people talking about today, what are people going to remember years from now about this debate? "Laughing Joe"

I agree, there was no clear winner, but Biden's antics might have been a big turn off for some. I think because of how Biden came off, it will put pressure on Obama not to come off as disrespectful while trying to be more aggressive.

yeah . you could be right ... the pressure was on joe ... but i think he saved some face for obama ...... imo, there were two things that coulda happened .. joe and ryan end up in with a virtual tie or ryan blows joe outta the water and seals the deal ... i think it was the former .. even if joe came out and blew ryan to bits and made him look like a fool, it wouldn't have salvaged the ground obama lost ..

The British Press havent really covered this at all...For, essentially, we, as a nation dont ever get to know the Vice President of the US under normal Circumstances...Yes that woman made waves last time...what was her name, Sarah or something...but that was because she put a particular image across the resonated...and because McCain was basically still unknown by the British when they went to the Polls

In England you vote for the party knowing who the prime minister will be by default of already being the party leader...but you dont know, when you vote, who he/she will have in their cabinate...Many English dont understand that the President and Vice President come as a known combo...therefore, in theory if you didnt like the presidential candidate, but HATED his opposing VP you might vote to keep the one you like least out...we cant do that with our Generals because they dont ellect their cabinate until AFTER they are ellected...In theory we dont know who would run the country if the Prime Minister we choose to ellect, dies in office, until he's already ellected.

Also...short of that happening in the US, we dont need to concern ourself about the deputy...incidently, I suspect that if the prime minister was killed or died, we'd probably move post-haste to another General Ellection.

The only news I have heard, relates Romney saying that he will accuse the Chinese of fixing rates to do with trade if he comes to power...not totally sure thats a clever move

I think Joe was looking to make their base happy since so many were unhappy with Obama's lackluster performance, and I believe he did that.

Someone counted, Biden interrupted Ryan 82 times in 90 mins. And Biden had the nerve to say Ryan was taking more than his allotted time.

i think obama did a good job again last nite ... for some reason i get the feeling that mitt has been relying on the first debate and not wanting to get into too many arguments ... last nite he looked like he was agreeing with a lot of obama fp issues and not putting too much difference between his ideas and baracks ... don't know if that should get him the votes he wants though ..

I think Obama was miffed that Mitt wasn't giving him anything to really hammer him with; and Obama came off at times as being small and condescending. One example, when they were talking about the military, Obama's comment, "...we have things called air craft carriers that planes land on..." Some are saying Obama won this one because he was more aggressive; I agree he was being agressive, interrupting, speaking over Romney, but Mitt stayed cool and calm showing his knowledge about our foreign affairs--he was clear on his points of what he would do about Iran and China, and his ideas about pursuing trade opportunities with Latin America. After the debate, there was some fact checking on two or three "quotes" that were brought up by each candidate about what the other had previously said about an issue, etc..., and on each fact check, Romney was correct and Obama was wrong.

Everybody is saying they think the election is going to come down to the economy, and if that bears out, Romney should win. The next jobs number comes out right before the election.

u could be right bon .. i don't think there was a chance that romney coulda won this last debate anyway .. the prez has way more access to fp issues, data etc .. so mitt just wanted to minimize damage .. i think he did that ..

it should be real close though .. imo, i don't think either guy will do much about the economy .. in 4 years, whoever is in power, things will be better than they are today ... its just a matter of how much ... this campaign has been pretty clean though imo .. both sides have had their moments .. michelle clapping at the last debate .. romney's son saying he wanted to punch out the prez ... LOL ... i realize there are bigger things at stake for you guys .. i am just seeing this as great entertainment ..

What?!...hadn't heard that! That would make for entertainment, wouldn't it! Michelle deserved a punch too, but she looks like she could punch back...hard!

I agree with you, it's harder for debate on foreign policy to be a level playing field for the challenger, but I think Romney did really well--way better than the President was hoping!

i"m sure he didn't mean it literally .. he was asked something like how does it feel to hear obama call your dad a liar or something and he said he felt like running out of his seat and wanting to swing at obama .. somehting like that .. i don't think a lot of people made a big deal about it .. although i am sure he got a talking to from dad and the campaign organizers though ..
