Morning Report: Silva-Sonnen II Finally Set, The Condit-Diaz Debate Rages On

Feb 6th:eb 6th:
Feb 6, 2012 - Well, that was an interesting weekend. While the rest of the sports world was whipped into a Super Bowl frenzy, the mixed martial arts community was still decidedly abuzz from UFC 143's polarizing main event. Plenty of fallout arrived amid Diaz vs. Condit, so catch up on everything you might have missed and everything you need to see on today's edition of the Morning Report.

Dana White believes Carlos Condit deserved to win. Ariel Helwani and the UFC President discuss whether the judges made the right call, before being interrupted by a shirtless Mike Goldberg (http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2012/2/5/2772550/dana-white-believes-carlos-condit-deserved-to-win-ufc-143-main-event).
Judges' scorecards from Carlos Condit vs. Nick Diaz. Take a look at how the three ringside judges -- including fan-favorite Cecil Peoples -- scored the action, round-by-round (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/5/2772415/ufc-143-results-judges-score-cards-carlos-condit-vs-nick-diaz).
UFC 143 morning after: Condit has what it takes to beat St. Pierre. Michael David Smith weighs-in with his thoughts (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/5/2771696/ufc-143-morning-after-carlos-condit-nick-diaz-georges-st-pierre-mma-news) from Saturday night, from Condit vs. GSP, to Kim Winslow's perfect stoppage.
Video of the new UFC intro. Catch a replay of the new pay-per-view lead-in video (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/5/2773054/video-new-ufc-intro-debut-gladiator-diaz-vs-condit-led-ppv-mma) that cost an "obscene amount of money," according to Dana White.
Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen agree to UFC title rematch. Lost amongst the judging hysteria was the fact that the one of the UFC's most anticipated rematches has officially been set (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/5/2772569/anderson-silva-and-chael-sonnen-agree-to-ufc-title-rematch).

What's so hard about paying $5 to watch it at a local Sports Bar?

Not everybody has a LOCAL sports bar that shows the fight. I'll typically buy the PPV or one of my friends will but every once in a while, it just doesn't work out.

Agreed. I'm fortunate that there are about 4-5 bars within just a few minutes of my place that show the PPVs, but now that there will be fights in FuelTV (which I don't get), I won't be able to stream them like I was able to with some of these prelims so far.

Oh I see my bad. The UFC is pretty big here so most of the sports bars I would 90% of them have the fights. Although some charge up to 15$ to watch them pfft absurd!!!

I only buy the once I really really like. I bought this one and Ill buy the Chael vs Silva one as well. Usually I go out and see them. Im lucky I have Fuel Tv so Ill be watching at home. The only thing I dont like about Fueltv is the quality of that channel sucks!! They dont offer it in HD which is the only reason why I dont watch Bellator, they dont offer MTV2 on hd here.

Morning Report: Cesar Gracie Duels Greg Jackson, Roy Nelson Parties With Coolio

Feb 7, 2012 - Saturday is long gone, but the Condit vs. Diaz (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight/1491/ufc-143-carlos-condit-vs-nick-diaz) controversy somehow rages on. The fallout continued in spades yesterday, from Cesar Gracie's belittlement of the judges, to the Condit camp's refusal to sign a rematch. Catch up on all the back-and-forth with today's edition of the Morning Report.

Cesar Gracie calls UFC 143 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/92159/ufc-143-diaz-vs-condit) judging a "perfect storm of incompetence." Still fuming from the judging slight, Gracie minced no words (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/6/2775955/cesar-gracie-on-nick-diaz-carlos-condit-judging-perfect-storm-of) during Monday's episode of The MMA Hour.
Greg Jackson: stick-and-move strategy was "no-brainer." Unsurprisingly, Jackson adamantly defended the pro-Condit decision, explaining, "it's not like we reinvented the wheel." (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/6/2775978/greg-jackson-stick-and-move-game-plan-was-no-brainer-against-nick-diaz)
Fabricio Werdum (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122505/fabricio-werdum) complains Roy Nelson's (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/123062/roy-nelson) face hurt his leg. Days later, Werdum is still feeling the effects (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/6/2775901/ufc-143-fabricio-werdum-complains-roy-nelsons-face-hurt-his-leg) from "Big Country's" Homer Simpson-style gameplan.
Carlos Condit's (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122573/carlos-condit) camp not interested in Nick Diaz (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122575/nick-diaz) rematch. Despite the war of words, Condit's manager made it clear that the interim champ has absolutely no interest (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/6/2775545/carlos-condits-camp-not-interested-in-nick-diaz-rematch) in an instant rematch.
Brandon Vera (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/128667/brandon-vera) explains his withdrawal from Thiago Silva (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/128668/thiago-silva) rematch. Beset by a backlash from fans, "The Truth" took to Facebook and clarified his abrupt decision (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/6/2775825/brandon-vera-vs-thiago-silva-rematch-ufc-125-fx-3-mma#storyjump).

Well, yes & no: Nate was able to draw Cerrone into a boxing match/brawl because he was able to rile him up & goad him. Jackson learned from that & kept Carlos' head together. There were a few times that Nick's taunts started to get to him, but he'd settle back down & stick to his gameplan.

Morning Report: Nick Diaz's Troubles, Dan Henderson Considers Fight at Heavyweight

Feb 10, 2012 - In retrospect, I guess we shouldn't be that surprised that Nick Diaz outkicked his coverage and tested positive for weed (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/9/2787871/nick-diaz-tests-positive-for-marijuana) during a UFC 143 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/92159/ufc-143-diaz-vs-condit) drug screening. After all, this is the guy that hit a bong (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QRhk8-ah1Ps) in the middle of a Strikeforce (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/promotion/strikeforce) conference call.
But still, Hendo might fight at heavyweight if we can find him a good match-up. So it's not all bad.

Nick Diaz tests positive for marijuana. Nick Diaz is facing a lengthy suspension after testing positive (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/9/2787871/nick-diaz-tests-positive-for-marijuana) for marijuana metabolites for the second time.
Diaz's positive drug test not surprising, but still bizarrely disappointing. Like a father that discovered his son's weed hidden under the dresser drawer, Ben Fowlkes isn't angry at Diaz's failed test, just (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/9/2787969/nick-diazs-positive-drug-test-not-surprising-but-still-bizarrely)disappointed (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/9/2787969/nick-diazs-positive-drug-test-not-surprising-but-still-bizarrely).
Dana White 'beyond disappointed' in Nick Diaz. White was unexpectedly measured in his short public statement (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/9/2788119/ufc-143-dana-white-nick-diaz-carlos-condit-marijuana).
Dan Henderson (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122555/dan-henderson) won't wait for title shot. Now that Jon Jones (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122514/jon-jones) is tied-up with Rashad Evans (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122510/rashad-evans), Hendo wants to fight in April or May. More surprisingly, a move up to heavyweight apparently isn't out of the question (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/9/2787608/dan-henderson-wont-wait-for-title-shot-wants-to-fight-in-april-or-may#storyjump).
UFC 143 trending near 400,000 pay-per-view buys. Early estimates have the buyrate for last weekend's UFC 143 show far exceeding expectations (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/9/2786622/ufc-143-trending-near-400000-ppv-buys).

Morning Report: Cesar Gracie And Carlos Condit Speak, UFC on FUEL TV Nears

Feb 14, 2012 - Now that Cesar Gracie and Carlos Condit have said their peace, the Condit-Diaz ruckus appears to have finally hit a lull. With that said, it's almost required I mention there are quality fights on Wednesday for the first time in a long time. Catch up on the latest from UFC on Fuel TV and the rest of the MMA world with the Morning Report.

Cesar Gracie: Nick Diaz was surprised he tested positive. Gracie spoke publicly (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/13/2795540/ufc-143-cesar-gracie-nick-diaz-carlos-condit-marijuana-drug-test-mma-news) for the first time since Diaz's failed drug test on The MMA Hour.
Carlos Condit wanted Nick Diaz rematch all along. Condit denies (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/13/2795887/carlos-condit-wanted-nick-diaz-rematch-all-along) he only accepted a rematch with Nick Diaz after discovering Diaz's failed drug test.
T.J. Dillashaw vs. Walel Watson dissection. Dallas Winston analyzes (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/13/2795375/ufc-on-fuel-tv-sanchez-ellenberger-walel-watson-vs-tj-dillashaw-dissection-predictions) UFC on Fuel TV's featured bantamweight tilt.
Mike Kyle reportedly withdraws from March 3 bout against Gegard Mousasi. For the second time in as many tries, Kyle vs. Mousasi has reportedly been cancelled (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/13/2795937/mike-kyle-vs-gegard-mousasi-fight-strikeforce-mma).
War Machine sentencing hearing: complete transcript. Bloody Elbow has a full transcript (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/13/2796238/war-machine-sentencing-hearing-complete-transcript#storyjump) of War Machine's controversial hearing, including Judge Valerie Adair's unprompted accusations of steroid abuse.

Morning Report: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Matt Hughes Talks Retirement

But either way, it's hard to complain about a lineup of free, quality fights. So while the UFC preps for tonight's welterweight throwdown, catch up on everything else MMA has to offer with the Morning Report.

UFC on FUEL TV weigh-in results. Fighters tipped the scales (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/14/2798302/ufc-on-fuel-sanchez-vs-ellenberger-weigh-in-results) from Omaha, Nebraska at Tuesday's official UFC on FUEL TV (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/92601/ufc-on-fuel-tv) weigh-ins.
Aaron Simpson vs. Ronny Markes (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight/1510/ufc-on-fuel-tv-ronny-markes-vs-aaron-simpson) dissection. Dallas Winston provides the latest visual breakdown (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/14/2797768/ufc-on-fuel-tv-sanchez-ellenberger-ronny-markes-vs-aaron-simpson-dissection-predictions#storyjump) for UFC on FUEL TV's main card.

Gary Goodridge diagnosed with early onset CTE/Pugilistic Dementia. Former Pride and K-1 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/promotion/k-1) standout Gary Goodridge reflected back (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/14/2798135/gary-goodridge-diagnosed-with-early-onset-cte-pugilistic-dementia) on his career in combat sports and the extensive damage it has done to his health.

Morning Report: UFC on FUEL Results, Brittney Palmer's Playboy Cover

Feb 16, 2012 - Now that Wednesday's fight night experiment has come and gone, I don't think I'm alone in saying -- more please.
UFC on FUEL (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/92601/ufc-on-fuel-tv) may not have broken down any walls, but for what it was, the midweek mini-card was an undeniably entertaining fix of violence. As always, there was an abundance of news and tidbits to come out of last night's event, so catch up on everything you may have missed with the Morning Report.
Oh, and Playboy released a sneak peek of Brittney Palmer's Playboy spread, if you're into that kind of thing.

Jake Ellenberger outlasts Diego Sanchez. Despite a near-miraculous comeback, Jake Ellenberger held off Diego Sanchez long enough to capture victory (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/15/2801517/jake-ellenberger-outlasts-diego-sanchez-in-ufc-on-fuel-main-event) in the main event of UFC on FUEL.
UFC on FUEL fight results. Between Stefan Struve's brawl with Dave Herman, and swift finishes from Jonathan Brookins and Stipe Miocic, there was plenty of action (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/15/2801110/sanchez-vs-ellenberger-results) on Wednesday night's fight card.
Dana White awards UFC on FUEL bonuses. Ellenberger, Sanchez, Miocic and Ivan Menjivar each left the arena $50,000 richer (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/15/2801627/ufc-on-fuel-bonuses-ellenberger-sanchez-miocic-menjivar-take-honors) for their fight night performances.
Jon Jones (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122514/jon-jones): I miss being friends with Rashad Evans (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122510/rashad-evans). Jon Jones reflected back fondly (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/15/2799723/ufc-145-jon-jones-rashad-evans-friends) when asked about his relationship with Rashad Evans.
Sneak peak of Brittney Palmer's Playboy cover and photo shoot. Take an early (SFW) look at UFC ring girl Brittney Palmer's eight-page photospread (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/15/2800518/brittney-palmer-playboy-photos-pictures-ufc-octagon-girl#storyjump) for Playboy.

Morning Report: Anderson Silva Talks Old Age, Jon Jones Verbally Spars With Rashad Evans

Feb 17, 2012 - It's strange to think how much time has passed since Anderson Silva (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122568/anderson-silva) first introduced himself to western audiences with a glorified mercy killing of Chris Leben (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/128665/chris-leben) at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 5. None could have predicted the artistry that took place in the cage that night, just as none could have foreseen the run of brillance, and sometimes absurdity, that would follow over the next six years.
But that time has passed, and at 36 years old, Silva's professional mortality is quickly becoming a reality. Check out what "The Spider" had to on the subject, along with who he'd prefer to face in a career-ending superfight on today's Morning Report.

Anderson Silva would like to fight Georges St-Pierre, but not Jon Jones (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122514/jon-jones). Silva was surprisingly honest (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/16/2802308/anderson-silva-vs-jon-jones-chael-sonnen-gsp-retirement) when asked about his advancing age, Chael Sonnen, and which superfight remains a possibility.
Dana White says all main events to be five rounds after Ellenberger vs. Sanchez. Whiteannounced a change in policy (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/16/2802212/dana-white-main-events-five-rounds-ellenberger-vs-sanchez-mma-news) after UFC on FUEL's main event left fans wanting more.

Morning Report: Georges St-Pierre 'Ahead of Schedule,' Chisora-Haye Brawl and More

Feb 20, 2012 - To put it bluntly, this weekend was a mixed bag for combat sports. While the boxing world reignited due to Dereck Chisora's bizarre post-fight brawl with David Haye, mixed martial arts found itself alone in the corner, whispering sweet nothings to its crinkled UFC 144 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/84570/ufc-144-edgar-vs-henderson) flyer.
But like most non-fight weekends, we still somehow wound up with plenty of noteworthy morsels to pour over, from Georges St-Pierre's (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122591/georges-st-pierre) latest injury update and Brian Stann's (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/128666/brian-stann) Fox gig, to murmurs of Hendo (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122555/dan-henderson) vs. Machida (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122516/lyoto-machida) and Jon Jones (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122514/jon-jones) invoking Muhammad Ali comparisons. So catch up on all the MMA you may have missed with Monday's edition of the Morning Report.

Dereck Chisora brawls with David Haye after Chisora vs. Klitschko. Following Dereck Chisora's decision loss (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/18/2808834/vitali-klitschko-decisions-dereck-chisora-to-retain-wbc-title)to Vitali Klitschko on Saturday, Chisora and David Haye erupted into a violent brawl (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/18/2809054/dereck-chisora-brawl-david-haye-klitschko) that was captured on video (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/18/2809285/video-dereck-chisora-brawl-with-david-haye-after-chisora-vs-klitschko) and eventually led to both men's arrest.
Greg Jackson will corner Jon Jones against Rashad Evans (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122510/rashad-evans). After much debate, Evans' former trainer, Greg Jackson, has decided to corner (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/19/2810538/greg-jackson-will-corner-jon-jones-vs-rashad-evans) Jon Jones at UFC 145 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/92541/ufc-145).
For Anthony Pettis (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122902/anthony-pettis), one spectacular kick changed everything. Pettis reflected back to the moment that changed his life, for better or worse. (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/19/2809730/for-anthony-pettis-one-spectacular-kick-changed-everything-for-better)

Feb 21, 2012 - If you count yourself among those growing queasy with UFC 144 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/84570/ufc-144-edgar-vs-henderson) fever, yesterday probably didn't do you any favors. But that's not to say it was uneventful.
Between a late release of the first UFC 144 video blog, an abrupt Rampage Jackson (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122513/quinton-jackson)-Joe Rogan beef, and Carlos Condit's (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122573/carlos-condit) latest return timetable, there were plenty of morsels to whet your appetite. Carlos Condit unsure of St. Pierre's schedule, 'would like to stay busy.' Condit layed out a timetable for his return (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/20/2810922/ufc-carlos-condit-vs-georges-st-pierre-mma#storyjump) and revealed what it would take to get him back in the cage against an opponent not named Georges St-Pierre.
Loss to Anthony Pettis might have been the best, most painful thing to happen to Ben Henderson. Henderson discussed in painful detail the moment that, even now (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/20/2811678/loss-to-anthony-pettis-might-have-been-the-best-most-painful-thing-to), can bring tears to his eyes.

Morning Report: King Mo's Near Amputation, Dana White Calls Floyd Mayweather 'Racist'

Feb 22, 2012 - In today's instant-access, Twitter-driven media sphere, it's relatively hard to keep a story under the cracks. So when word dribbled out over the weekend that former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal was caught in a medical crisis, with an ACL tear and extreme bout of staph threatening his health to a point where amputation entered the conversation, it was alarming to say the least.

Now on the mend, King Mo adressed the rumors while recounting the chilling experience that changed his life. Catch up with Lawal's story, along with all the other MMA you may have missed on the Morning Report.

'King' Mo Lawal discusses ACL surgery and staph infection. Lawal, for the first time, opened up about the past few weeks, during which an ACL tear and severe staph infection nearly resulted in amputation (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/21/2813598/king-mo-lawal-discusses-acl-surgery-and-staph-infection).

Dana White calls out Floyd Mayweather. The UFC president is far from pleased (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/21/2815781/video-dana-white-racist-floyd-mayweather-jeremy-lin-comments) with Floyd Mayweather's tweet about Knicks star Jeremy Lin (watch video below).

Morning Report: Previewing UFC 144, Flyweight Tourney Adds Sudden Death Rounds

Feb 24, 2012 - After all we've been through in the early stages of 2012, the phrase "never leave it in the hands of the judges" has never meant more than it does now. Just ask Dana White. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcQGkHYXVcA)
Aside from griping and hand-wringing, the problem appears to be out of anyone's control, and with the UFC's flyweight tournament (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/93647/ufc-on-fx-2) resting over the horizon, another judging disaster has the potential to implode the legitimacy of an entire division before it even takes off.
So it shouldn't surprise anyone that the UFC apparently has a plan, and according to "Mighty Mouse" Johnson (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122884/demetrious-johnson), the wheels are already in motion.

UFC creates 'sudden death' rule for upcoming flyweight tournament. According to Demetrious Johnson, the UFC included a special provision (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/23/2819853/ufc-creates-sudden-death-rule-for-upcoming-flyweight-tournament#storyjump) in his contract to ensure the 125-pound tournament couldn't suffer the wrath of the judges.
UFC 144: by the odds. Ben Fowlkes runs down all the favorites and underdogs (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/23/2819754/ufc-144-by-the-odds) heading into Saturday night's pay-per-view.
A night in Tokyo with Rampage Jackson. Ariel Helwani walks the streets (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/23/2818797/a-night-in-tokyo-with-rampage-jackson) of Tokyo with Quinton Jackson in this candid look at the man behind the nickname.
Hatsu Hioki vs. Bart Palaszewski dissection. Dallas Winston extensively breaks down UFC 144's pivotal featherweight tilt, Hioki vs. Palaszewski (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/23/2814771/ufc-144-predictions-edgar-henderson-bart-palaszewski-vs-hatsu-hioki-dissection).
Sean Loeffler details wild and dangerous fight in the Philippines. You're bound to run into some strange sights when you've been in the fight game as long as Sean Loeffler, but few could top the night he spent in the Philippines (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/22/2817034/sean-loeffler-details-wild-and-dangerous-fight-in-the-phillipines-in) back in 2002.

Morning Report: Frankie Edgar's Featherweight Dilemma, Debating Henderson vs. Pettis II

Feb 27, 2012 - What a weekend.

Rampage Jackson hurled PRIDE fans one final shot of nostalgia with a vintage powerbomb. Mark Hunt penned another chapter of a storybook run in his old stomping grounds. Joe Rogan spontaneously combusted as Tim Boetsch blasted his way to eleventh-hour glory. Anthony Pettis lived up to his nickname, rocketing into title contention in utterly spectacular fashion.

And of course, Ben Henderson gutted his way to the sport's highest level, capping the night in tearful celebration with his mother as gold draped around his waist.

Even now, it's hard to put into words what took place on Saturday night. Between the nostalgic return to Japan and the greatest collective spectacle of any card in recent memory, UFC 144 produced an unexplainably unique experience that will not soon be forgotten. Relive the action and catch up with the aftermath on today's Morning Report.

UFC 144 post-fight interviews. Ariel Helwani caught up with all the stars of UFC 144 (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/26/2825396/ufc-144-post-fight-interviews), including UFC president Dana White, new lightweight champion Ben Henderson, Rampage Jackson, Anthony Pettis, and Mark Hunt.

Frankie Edgar doesn't 'need' to drop to featherweight. With wins over Jim Miller, B.J. Penn (x2) and Gray Maynard, Frankie Edgar has one of the sharpest résumés in the entire 155-pound division. So why does one loss relegate him to the featherweight division (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/26/2825559/ufc-144-results-frankie-edgar-featherweight)?

Time for Ben Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis II. Michael David Smith examined Saturday night's biggest storylines, highlighting the winners, the losers, notable quotes, and the UFC's next blockbuster rematch on the Morning After (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/26/2824548/ufc-144-morning-after-time-for-ben-henderson-vs-anthony-pettis-rematch).

Hatsu Hioki is Japan's last best hope for a UFC title. After cementing his status as the No. 2 featherweight in the world, Hioki may soon find himself carrying the hopes of a nation as Japan's only viable contender (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/26/2825846/ufc-144-results-hatsu-hioki-is-japans-last-best-hope-for-a-ufc-title).

Rampage Jackson says he won't retire. Rampage surprised those expecting a post-UFC 144 retirement, and instead blamed his loss (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/26/2825346/rampage-jackson-says-he-wont-retire-injury-affected-him-in-loss) on an unspecified injury that nearly prevented him from competing.

Morning Report: 'The Ultimate Fighter 15' Cast List, Ben Henderson's Rejected TUF 9 Audition

Feb 28, 2012 - Ever since it's inception in 2005, The Ultimate Fighter has proven to be the UFC's cornerstone for farming young talent, providing an ample slew of champions and contenders over the show's fourteen seasons. So with every release of a new season's cast, like we saw yesterday (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/27/2828046/ultimate-fighter-cast-announced), there exists the faintest glimmer that we may be witnessing the rise of the next great champion. It's what draws us back year after year.

But you already know all that. And plus, the show is still as hit-or-miss as they come. Since 2009, just 21 of the 75 contestants presently hold a UFC contract, good for a lowly 28-percent success rate (not counting TUF 14).

So you're telling me, in a season that produced just three of those 21 names, former WEC champ and new UFC lightweight champ Ben Henderson couldn't make the cut? That seems baffling.

But what do I know. You be the judge. Check out Bendo's rejected TUF 9 audition tape, and catch up with all of yesterday's big news with the Morning Report.

Carlos Condit willing to wait for 'Michael Jordan of MMA.' In speaking with our own Ariel Helwani, Condit revealed why he would be ready to wait (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/27/2827726/carlos-condit-willing-to-wait-for-michael-jordan-of-mma) for Georges St. Pierre if need be.

Ultimate Fighter cast announced. The UFC and FX revealed the 32-fighter (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/27/2828046/ultimate-fighter-cast-announced) cast that will participate in the The Ultimate Fighter 15.

Jeremy Stephens vs. Donald Cerrone booked for May 15. With an injury to Yves Edwards, Cerrone received a new opponent (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/27/2828635/ufc-on-fuel-tv-3-jeremy-stephens-vs-donald-cerrone-yves-edwards-injury-mma) for his UFC on FUEL 3 lightweight duel.

Bellator's Blagoi Ivanov reportedly stabbed in heart. The undefeated Bulgarian heavyweight is clinging to life (http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2012/2/27/2828781/bellator-heavyweight-blagoi-ivanov-stabbed-heart-bulgaria-life) after a Sunday morning barroom brawl, according to reports.

Bas Rutten talks PRIDE, UFC 144, and K-1. Matt Roth caught up with El Guapo (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/27/2827362/bas-rutten-talks-pride-ufc-144-and-k-1-kickboxing) at Legacy Fighting Championship 10 as he prepared to celebrate his 47th birthday over the weekend.

Morning Report: Spike TV and the Kimbo Slice Effect, Dakota Cochrane's Story

Feb 29, 2012 - Kimbo Slice achieved web stardom in 2003. He made his MMA debut with a win over Ray Mercer in 2007. He parlayed that into the CBS spotlight, shattering ratings records with the first MMA event ever aired on American network primetime in 2008.

Somehow he wound up in the UFC, cast on season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter, again shattering rating records in 2009. Finally, he earned his Zuffa pink slip after losing to Matt Mitrione and subsequently retired from MMA in 2010.

Between those last four years, one question was asked ad nauseum by incredulous fight fans -- why? What was the appeal, and more prominently, why was it so ridiculously successful? How did someone with no working knowledge of MMA become the posterboy for MMA in the eyes of non-MMA fans?

Even now, two years later, he somehow remains relevant, like a lingering storm cloud that refuses to pass. Just look to Ariel Helwani's recent quest to discover ‘How Mainstream is MMA?' (http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/11/10/video-how-mainstream-is-mma) as proof.

So of course Spike TV tapped his services in their ratings crusade against Fox. And you know what else? It'll probably work. Check out all the details of the new deal, and catch up with all of yesterday's big news with the Morning Report.

Spike uses Kimbo Slice to counter-program The Ultimate Fighter on FX. Spike TV tapped the services of the network's biggest-ever TV star (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/2/28/2831233/spike-uses-kimbo-slice-to-counter-program-the-ultimate-fighter-on-fx) in the war against Fox.

UFC on FX 2 predictions. Michael David Smith predicts the winners and losers (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/28/2826024/ufc-on-fx-predictions) of Friday's inaugural flyweight tournament.

UFC on FX 2: Fuel TV preliminary card dissection (part one). Dallas Winston returns with a quartet of his comprehensive visual breakdowns (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/28/2828973/ufc-on-fx-2-fuel-tv-preliminary-card-dissection-part-one#storyjump) for UFC on FX 2's undercard, highlighting Kyle Noke vs. Andrew Craig, Mackens Semerzier vs. Daniel Pineda, Shawn Jordan vs. Oli Thompson, and Nick Penner vs. Anthony Perosh.

Dakota Cochrane discusses controversial past. The 25-year-old TUF hopeful addressed his pornographic past (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/28/2831727/dakota-cochrane-discusses-controversial-past-as-he-prepares-to-chase) as he prepares to chase his UFC dream.

UFC 144 'Prelims' ratings. Saturday night's 'UFC Prelims' special on FX averaged 1.5 million viewers (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/28/2831113/ufc-144-prelims-ratings-on-fx-attract-1-5-million-viewers) over the course of its two-hour broadcast.

Morning Report: Frankie Edgar Demands a Rematch, Pros Predict Sonnen vs. Silva II

Mar 1, 2012 - Three weeks ago the MMA community was frenzied with debate over Carlos Condit's divisive victory against Nick Diaz. Now we're back here again. New names, nearly the same problem.

In any other sport, this turn of events would be fairly frustrating. But that's the unique thing about MMA (and the UFC in particular). What the community wants, they generally get. Were it not for Nick's love of weed, the Diaz-Condit rematch would likely already be on the books. So this is really your call.

Do you want to see Frankie Edgar rematch Ben Henderson? Would you rather see him drop down to challenge Jose Aldo? Or would you just like to see him work his way back up the lightweight ladder? Catch up with the latest in the Frankie-Bendo-Dana saga and let your voice be heard with the Morning Report.

Frankie Edgar: I'm staying at 155, and I want my rematch. Edgar demanded his rematch (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/29/2833513/frank-edgar-im-staying-at-155-and-i-want-my-rematch) while nipping a drop to featherweight in the bud on Wednesday's The MMA Hour.
Frankie Edgar guaranteed automatic title shot at featherweight. Despite Frankie's request, Dana White remained in favor of the former champ dropping to featherweight, and he's willing to sweeten the pot (http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2012/2/29/2834698/dana-white-frankie-edgar-title-shot-featherweight-ben-henderson-rematch) to get him there.
'Shogun' Rua wants rematch with 'Rampage' Jackson. Shogun revealed that he and Rampage both refuse to retire until they can meet in the cage one final time.
Rampage Jackson used testosterone before his fight against Ryan Bader. Jackson revealed that he used physician-prescribed testosterone replacement therapy (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/2/29/2834413/rampage-jackson-used-testosterone-before-his-fight-against-ryan-bader) in advance of last Saturday's UFC 144 event.
The resurrection of Ian McCall. From drug abuse, to prison, to a near-death experience, McCall details the incredible road (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/2/29/2831167/the-resurrection-of-ian-mccall) that has him poised two fights away from becoming a UFC champion.

Morning Report: Enter the Flyweights; Faber to Cruz: 'You're Welcome for Letting You Live'

Mar 2, 2012 - What a weekend we have in front of us. Two events. Two days. One brand new division.
Finally, after years of teasing hints and playful false starts, the flyweights have truly arrived, and it couldn't have gone down any other way. A good old-fashioned tournament, just like the old days. The two men who fans and pundits alike have always referred to as future titleholders at 125-pounds, and the two champions of the world's most renown flyweight organizations. When the blood settles tonight, two of these fighters will be one step closer to the UFC's eighth and final goldcard.
And that's still not even mentioning a blistering welterweight showdown with guaranteed fireworks, plus the most heavily-hyped women's bout since 2009. So fellow fight fans, with that being said, get ready for a weekend to remember with the Morning Report.

UFC on FX 2 weigh-in results. All 22 fighters met their required weight (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/1/2838173/ufc-on-fx-2-weigh-in-results) in advance of Friday night's FX card.
What's at Stake? UFC on FX 2/Tate vs. Rousey Edition. Luke Thomas breaks down the implications (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/1/2835792/whats-at-stake-ufc-on-fx-2-tate-vs-rousey-edition) for this weekend's biggest Strikeforce and UFC stars.
Association of boxing commissions tells members to not license fighters from Michigan. The ABC mailed a letter (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/1/2835428/abc-michigan-mma-ban-license-fights-ufc) to state athletic commissions requesting they no longer recognize MMA events in Michigan or license fighters from the state.
UFC 144 medical suspensions and injuries. Nine fighters from last Saturday's Japan card have received medical suspensions (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/1/2836218/ufc-144-medical-suspensions-and-injuries-for-edgar-vs-henderson-in) for their work, including Frankie Edgar, Ben Henderson, and Rampage Jackson.
Eddie Alvarez vs. Shinya Aoki II official for April 20. Bellator's biggest rematch (http://www.mmafighting.com/bellator/2012/3/1/2835654/eddie-alvarez-vs-shinya-aoki-rematch-bellator-66-april-20) is set to headline Bellator 66 at the I-X Center in Cleveland, OH.

Morning Report: Ronda Rousey's Grisly Armbar and the Fourth Round That Never Was

Mar 5, 2012 - Who could have guessed the debut of a new UFC division would be overshadowed by a women's title fight, in Strikeforce, no less.
But it was, and at least for now, the landscape of mixed martial arts appears to have evolved dramatically. Ronda Rousey's gruesome victory (http://www.mmafighting.com/strikeforce/2012/3/4/2843672/tate-vs-rousey-video-highlights-strikeforce) over Miesha Tate (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/130035/miesha-tate) was a performance that captivated the MMA community unlike any women's match since 2009, and now "Rowdy" Ronda (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/131295/ronda-rousey) has become what Gina Carano (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/129416/gina-carano) was supposed to be.
Though lets not overstate the situation. WMMA obviously has a long road ahead of it. But with the help of a bona fide star -- a 25-year-old with Olympic pedigree, unquestionable ferocity, and Sonnen-esque skills on the mic -- the horizon suddenly looks a whole lot brighter. Catch up with the entire Rousey-Tate aftermath, as well as the UFC's flyweight tourney fallout with the Morning Report.

Ronda Rousey calls title win 'big deal' for women's MMA. Ronda Rousey spoke to Ariel Helwani (http://www.mmafighting.com/strikeforce/2012/3/4/2843614/ronda-rousey-calls-title-win-big-deal-for-womens-mma) about her championship performance over Miesha Tate, her trademark armbar, and what her sudden rise means for women's MMA. And if you missed out, do yourself a favor and check out all the electrifying Strikeforce video highlights (http://www.mmafighting.com/strikeforce/2012/3/4/2843672/tate-vs-rousey-video-highlights-strikeforce).
A short list of the most savage armbars in MMA history. Following Rousey's dramatic victory on Saturday night, Ben Thapa put together a GIF-fest of a feature (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/4/2843508/strikeforce-tate-vs-rousey-was-that-the-most-savage-armbar-in-mma#storyjump), asking whether we just witnessed the greatest MMA armbar of all time.
Strikeforce fighter Brandon Saling in question for Neo-Nazi tattoos and criminal past. Internet detectives discovered the rather unsavory past (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/4/2844320/strikeforce-fighter-brandon-saling-in-question-for-neo-nazi-tattoos) of Strikeforce undercard fighter Brandon Saling, including Neo-Nazi tattoos and a police charge "in connection with an alleged rape of a person under 13."
Ian McCall vs. Demetrious Johnson a ruled a draw. The UFC's flyweight tournament hit a snag when Australian commission representative Craig Waller incorrectly totaled the scores (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/3/3/2841105/ian-mccall-vs-demetrious-johnson-a-draw-australian-commissioner) for Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall. According to Dana White, a rematch is currently in the works.
Strikeforce: Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier set for May 19. Over a year after its inception, the end is finally in sight (http://www.mmafighting.com/strikeforce/2012/3/3/2843218/strikeforce-josh-barnett-vs-daniel-cormier-heavyweight-grand-prix-may-19) for Strikeforce's heavyweight grand prix.

Morning Report: UFC's Heavyweight Holiday Bonanza

Mar 8, 2012 - Wednesday was looking like a pretty slow news day right up until the moment it wasn't. Two announcements later and the MMA community had experienced a minor explosion.

Within a span of a few hours, UFC 146 transformed from a solid card to one of the year's best lineups (and perhaps one of the best in recent memory). What we now had was a heavyweight extravaganza, sporting a mammoth title fight (dos Santos vs. Overeem), a solid number-one contenders bout (Velasquez vs. Mir), and a slobber-knocker duel between lower contenders (Silva vs. Nelson). Score one for the big guys.

Around this time, various commentators on this site starting referring to the Memorial Day weekend event as a theme card, the likes of which we haven't seen in quite a while. But why? While booking all heavies surely doesn't do much in the way of diversity, it certainly seems like a cool way to keep a division running smoothly. No more waiting around for everyone's timetable to match up. Instead just have the top six or eight guys slug it out on the same night. Winners fight winners as soon as possible. Everything keeps flowing, unlike some divisions (I'm looking at you, lightweight).

Of course, overuse of this would probably get a little boring. But every once in a while, why not just throw a theme card out there to get people's blood pumping? Besides, multiple hours of heavyweight violence is an idea I think most of us can get behind.

Cain Velasquez vs. Frank Mir set for UFC 146. Velasquez and Mir have agreed to meet in a Memorial Day weekend match-up to determine the UFC heavyweight division's next number-one contender (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/7/2852579/ufc-146-cain-velasquez-vs-frank-mir-mma-news).

Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva vs. Roy Nelson slated for UFC 146. Roy Nelson's drop to 205 pounds may seem inevitable at this point, but right now he's still a heavyweight. So what better way for him to go out than by taking on a giant of a man (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/7/2852437/roy-nelson-vs-antonio-bigfoot-silva-ufc-146) on the year's premier heavyweight card?

Josh Koscheck: If AKA had real coaches, it would have produced more champions. Koscheck blasts his former coaches (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/7/2851402/josh-koscheck-if-aka-had-real-coaches-it-would-have-produced-more) at American Kickboxing Academy, before discussing his new gym and his upcoming fight against Johny Hendricks.

Michael Chandler vs. Akihiro Gono booked for Bellator 67. Bellator's latest "superfight" (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/7/2852054/bellator-67-michael-chandler-vs-akihiro-gono-casino-rama-may-4-ontario) sees lightweight champion Michael Chandler take on PRIDE/UFC veteran Akihiro Gono on May 4 in Ontario, Canada.

Pat Barry planning on letting hair grow until he submits someone in UFC. Ariel Helwani caught up with the always-entertaining Pat Barry and somehow the conversation turned to pizza and haircuts (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/7/2852307/pat-barry-still-planning-on-letting-hair-grow-until-he-submits).

Morning Report: 'The Ultimate Fighter' and Bellator Collide

Mar 9, 2012 - This week was kind of strange. And the next five weeks are probably going to be stranger. But we're spoiled as MMA fans now. A month-and-a-half between major events used to be nothing.

Besides, mixed martial arts has reached the point where even if the schedule looks empty, it isn't really. Case in point: between the newly revamped "The Ultimate Fighter" and a brand new season of the promotion that just brought us this and this and THIS (and this and this), Friday nights are about to become the new Saturday. So sit back and get ready for tonight's fights with the Morning Report.

The hurt business: a year in the life of an MMA fight team. Ben Fowlkes invades Grudge Training Center to examine the hidden lives of pro fighters and watch as fortunes rise and fall (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/3/8/2854231/the-hurt-business-a-year-in-the-life-of-an-mma-fight-team) over the course of one calendar year in the first installment of this multi-part series.
Bellator 60: Joe Warren vs. Pat Curran dissection. Dallas Winston kicks the door down to Bellator's sixth season with a gif-tastic breakdown (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/7/2849426/bellator-60-pat-curran-vs-joe-warren-dissection-featherweight-championship) of tonight's featherweight championship.
For Bellator's Bjorn Rebney, eventual Spike move vindicates long-term vision. Bellator's CEO discusses his long journey to Spike, upcoming production changes, and the format that allows fighters "to be like Butler in the NCAA's March Madness." (http://www.mmafighting.com/bellator/2012/3/8/2854838/for-bellator-boss-bjorn-rebney-spike-move-looms-large-for-future)
Daniel Cormier would consider cutting weight for a 205-pound 'superfight.' Despite his past weight cutting struggles, Cormier would give it one more shot (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/8/2854638/jon-jones-vs-daniel-cormier-dc-ufc-strikeforce#storyjump) for a superfight against a top 205-pounder.
Marloes Coenen cast in Dutch version of ‘Survivor.' The former Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion joined twelve of the Netherlands' biggest celebrities (http://www.cagepotato.com/crazy-story-of-the-day-marloes-coenen-cast-in-dutch-version-of-survivor/) in the survival reality show "De Schat van De Oranje."

Morning Report: MMA's Weekend Smorgasbord, Jon Jones Talks Silva Superfight

Mar 12, 2012 - Indulge me in a rant real quick. I understand Joe Warren isn't exactly the most popular fighter out there right now, but what exactly was going through Jeff Malott's head as he watched Pat Curran bomb on a 35-year-old man with roughly 436 unanswered shots on Friday night? A referee's primary role is to ensure the safety of both fighters. Malott failed. I know it's cliché to grumble about the refing and judging in MMA, but this issue is getting out-of-hand.

Guys like Nick Diaz and Gene LeBell have called for officials to carry a background in combat sports and undergo extensive, mandatory martial arts training in order to grasp the severity of given situations. That sounds great in theory, but a quick Google search reveals Malott to have an extensive background in sambo and even a few professional fights under his belt. So what then?

This is a murky issue and no one seems to have the right answer, but when it comes down to it, as a former fighter Malott failed Warren immensely by not understanding how unhealthy it is for a human skull to be bludgeoned unconscious three different times in a span of thirty seconds.

Anyhow, now that we've got that out of the way, how about all that magnificent violence we saw this weekend? Between the twin premieres of Bellator and The Ultimate Fighter, along with Cro Cop's homecoming and the first ever MMA event held in India, there were plenty of brawls to go around, so check out all the action with the Morning Report.

Weekend MMA results. Catch up on this weekend's smorgasbord of MMA action with official results for Bellator 60 (http://www.mmafighting.com/bellator/2012/3/9/2857024/bellator-60-results-warren-vs-curran), The Ultimate Fighter: Live (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/9/2857527/ultimate-fighter-15-episode-1-results), Cro Cop Final Fight (http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2012/3/10/2861171/mirko-cro-cop-def-ray-sefo-k-1-final-fight-mma), Super Fight League 1 (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/11/2861657/sfl-india-bob-sapp-vs-james-thompson-live-stream-results) and MFC 4 (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/11/2862412/mark-striegl-and-andrew-leone-register-first-round-submission-wins-at).
Tyson Griffin tested positive for marijuana at UFC 123. Bloody Elbow's Brent Brookhouse uncovered an unreported positive test for marijuana (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/9/2854621/tyson-griffin-marijuana-ufc-drug-testing) linked back to Tyson Griffin at UFC 123. UFC Senior Vice President of Government & Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner has since issued an official statement (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/10/2859767/ufc-response-tyson-griffin-marijuana-suspension) on the matter.
Jon Jones would rather have Anderson Silva as a mentor than fight him. The question of who would win a superfight between the UFC's two most dominant champions, Jon Jones and Anderson Silva, has been debated ad nauseum by fight fans. But according to Jones, he'd rather look to Silva as a mentor than an opponent (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/10/2860183/jon-jones-prefer-anderson-silva-mentor-fight-ufc-mma).
Fedor Emelianenko hints at possible UFC fight. Where would March be without the monthly Fedor-to-UFC tidbit? In a recent interview, the aging Russian legend opened the door (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/11/2862827/ufc-fedor-emelianenko-barnett-mma-news) for a shot at Octagon glory.
'UFC Primetime' tapped for two summer shows. 'UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans' and 'UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Overeem' are set to receive the primetime treatment (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/11/2861024/ufc-primetime-returns-for-jones-vs-evans-and-dos-santos-vs-overeem-in) for their respective championship fights.

Morning Report: Chris Leben Talks Addiction, Jose Aldo Spars a Fan

Mar 13, 2012 - Candor is a rare currency in professional sports. With the rise of the social media machine, honesty and personality are often considered taboo. In their place, athletes are taught to give little more than canned answers straight from the mouth of P.R. engines, and who can blame them when one slip-up has the potential to explode in an instant?

Rarely do you see an interviewee as heartbreakingly forthright as Chris Leben was on Monday. As he poured out his mortality on The MMA Hour, accepting full responsibility for his ongoing battle with substance abuse, Leben ceased being "The Crippler" and instead reverted back to Chris, a simple 31-year-old man struggling with the pressures and anxieties of real life.

It's easy to become jaded with sports, but interviews like his help remind us that there is a very real human element to all of this that is too often forgotten. So if you haven't heard it already, do yourself a favor and check out Leben's words.

The MMA Hour is back. Ariel Helwani and The MMA Hour return with a packed show (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/12/2863274/the-mma-hour-with-johnson-leben-mitrione-curran-coenen) featuring Chris Leben, Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, Pat Curran, Miesha Tate, Matt Mitrione and Marlos Coenen.
Chris Leben talks rehab. Leben, for the first time since receiving his UFC suspension, candidly discussed painkiller and alcohol addition, and the rehab that has him fighting for his life (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/12/2865796/chris-leben-painkillers-addiction-alcohol-rehab-recovery-suspended-mma#storyjump).
TUF: Brazil cast list revealed. Sixteen middleweights and sixteen featherweights have been announced as the opening field (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/12/2865781/tuf-brazil-cast-list-reveals-middleweight-featherweight-fields) for the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.
Anthony Johnson signs with Titan Fighting Championships. Johnson spoke publicly for the first time (http://www.cagepotato.com/anthony-johnson-has-a-brand-new-promotion-to-miss-weight-for-now/) since his unceremonious release from the UFC, revealing plans to fight at 185 pounds for Titan Fighting Championships on May 25.
Dana White says UFC may move away from PPV. White opened the door (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/12/2863492/dana-white-ufc-ppv-free-tv) for the UFC to possibly transition away from the pay-per-view business model in the future.

I keep posting these morning reports at night. Whoops.

Morning Report: Dana White TUF Video Blog, Rampage Bids Farewell With Shogun

Mar 14, 2012 - So Rampage Jackson complained for a few weeks then got both his wishes granted -- a fight against Shogun and a release from the UFC. Good for him, I guess.

Realistically, it seems like there's only one of a few ways this situation can go. 1) Rampage gets smashed by Shogun, then leaves the UFC to hit the Bellator/DREAM/M-1/ONE FC circuit, which would be weird. Or, 2) A motivated Rampage, aided by TRT, trains harder then he has in years and either -- A) fights an absolute war with Shogun, or, B) evokes the spirit of '07 and knocks Shogun the hell out.

The thing is, if either one of those last two options happen, could you really see the UFC just giving up the golden gift of a revitalized Rampage Jackson to a competitor? There's absolutely no way that happens, right? Rampage is (self-admittedly) an emotional guy, and Zuffa is perhaps the most business savvy promotion in MMA. So is this really the end of Rampage in the UFC? Who knows, but it's probably more up in the air then we'd imagine.

Rampage Jackson to fight Shogun Rua in farewell fight. Rampage Jackson is slated to fight Shogun Rua (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/3/13/2869566/dana-white-rampage-jacksons-last-ufc-fight-will-be-against-shogun-rua) in a rematch of their PRIDE Total Elimination 2005 brawl, before he can be granted his UFC release. A timetable for the match has yet to be announced.
The fighter who stayed too long. Ben Fowlkes recounts the tragic tale of Gary Goodridge (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/3/13/2867460/the-fighter-who-stayed-too-long), who after a lifetime of battles in the ring, now finds himself struggling with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.
UFC taking action against individuals who illegally stream events. If you've illegally streamed a recent UFC event, there's a good chance Zuffa has your information (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/13/2868272/ufc-piracy-legal-zuffa-streaming#comments) and will be looking to take legal action against you.
Anthony Pettis considering a drop to featherweight. "Showtime" would reportedly be open to a drop to 145-pounds if it meant an instant title shot (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/13/2868608/jose-aldo-vs-anthony-pettis-frankie-edgar-ben-henderson-ufc-mma) against UFC champ Jose Aldo.
M-1 champ Vinny Magalhaes declares free agency. Magalhaes, a former TUF'er and M-1's reigning light heavyweight champion, has hit the free market (http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2012/3/13/2868645/after-strained-relationship-m-1-champ-vinny-magalhaes-declares-free) after a fierce, prolonged squabble with the Russian promotion.

Morning Report: NSAC Calls Nick Diaz a Liar, Brendan Schaub Hunts for Ghosts

Mar 15, 2012 - Nick Diaz (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122575/nick-diaz) may be in the midst of the most bizarre five-month stretch in MMA history. Let's recap.

Diaz destroys B.J. Penn's (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122540/b-j-penn) face so hard, Penn retires. Diaz then enrages Georges St. Pierre (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122591/georges-st-pierre) so badly, Georges demands Diaz take Carlos Condit's (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122573/carlos-condit) title shot at UFC 143 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/92159/ufc-143-diaz-vs-condit). Impressive stuff so far.

Diaz gets his fight, Carlos is sad, but one Canadian knee eruption later, he's back in the game. Both men hype the match as a "dogfight," but Condit works a counter-heavy gameplan into a divisive decision victory. An incredulous Diaz promptly retires.

After days of public fervor, Condit's camp asks to run it back. Only problem, Diaz sure does love his weed. Weeks go by and the story fades out until the Diaz camp unexpectedly lawyers up, claiming Diaz didn't technically break any of the NSAC's rules. And now we're here, with the NSAC calling Diaz a liar, and the story is very, very far from over.

NSAC claims Nick Diaz violated the law on UFC 143 pre-fight questionnaire. Nevada State Athletic Commission representative Jennifer M. Lopez revealed that Nick Diaz "lied" to the commission (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/14/2872427/nsac-nick-diaz-marijuana-violated-law-lied-ufc-143-pre-fight-questionnaire-mma) by swearing he had not taken any prescribed medications two weeks out from UFC 143.
Bellator 61 dissection. Dallas Winston is back with another gif-tastic breakdown (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/14/2869452/bellator-61-prindle-vs-santos-middleweight-tournament-dissection) of Eric Prindle vs. Thiago Santos and Bellator's middleweight quarterfinals.
Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve confirmed for UFC 146. The addition of Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve completes UFC 146's all-heavyweight main card (http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2012/3/14/2871320/mark-hunt-vs-stefan-struve-ufc-146-heavyweight), slated for Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas.
Cesar Gracie says Pettis or Penn may challenge Melendez next. Zuffa is struggling to find viable opponents for Gilbert Melendez, so Cesar Gracie threw down the gauntlet for a pair of surprising names (http://www.cagepotato.com/cesar-gracie-says-pettis-or-penn-might-challenge-melendez-next/).
Demian Maia moving down to welterweight. Maia announced his impending drop from 185 pounds to 170 (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/14/2870953/demian-maia-moving-down-to-welterweight) on Wednesday morning. An opponent or timetable for his welterweight debut has yet to be decided.

Mar 16, 2012 - Rampage Jackson's strange UFC saga hit a snag and tonight's Bellator 61 card underwent a late shake-up. But you want to know yesterday's sneaky-important MMA story? It doesn't even involve MMA.

Day one of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

Brock Lesnar, Phil Davis, Johny Hendricks -- these guys were all D-1 champs, and with the diverging paths of today's wrestling and MMA scenes, more and more blue-chip prospects are forgoing the mat for the more lucrative call of mixed martial arts.

If you've never seen combat sports' version of March Madness, give it a shot and check out some of today's matches. You could be seeing the guys again real soon.

Morning Report: MMA's Hectic Weekend, Pros Predict Jones vs. Evans

Mar 19, 2012 - Another week rolls by without a major UFC event, and another MMA-packed weekend cuddles up and fills the void.

Besides the usual offerings from Bellator and The Ultimate Fighter, we saw a slew of old-school PRIDE names this weekend. Guys like Aleks Emelianenko, Jeff Monson and John Alessio hit the stage, and even good old Gabe Ruediger got in on the action. Add in the NCAA wrestling championships and the latest visual evidence in the to-touch-gloves-or-not debate, and that's a pretty full plate we've got on the table. So if you missed any of it, or you just want to see Rashad Evans accuse Jon Jones of dressing up in drag, catch up with today's edition of the Morning Report.

Morning Report: Ronda Rousey's Movie Theater Brawl, Oklahoma Threatens to Ban MMA

Mar 20, 2012 - Let's just talk as adults for a second. It's absurd for mixed martial arts to be banned in the year 2012. The stereotype of ‘human cockfighting' doesn't exist anymore. States like New York keep this pretense up solely for political purposes.

Well, get ready to hear a new excuse.

According to several recent reports, the great state of Oklahoma has threatened to join the ranks of the old-timers in a slightly different way. Not only is MMA on the chopping block, but so is the rest of combat sports. Permits for boxing and even professional wrestling will no longer be accepted effective March 31, 2012. The reason? Just a little ruckus with the Zuffa brass.

Battle between UFC and Oklahoma on PPV revenue leads to statewide ban on MMA. The Oklahoma Athletic Commission has imposed regulations to deny applications for combat sports events (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/19/2885567/ufc-oklahoma-ppv-revenue-statewide-ban-mma) after March 31, 2012, due to a disagreement with the UFC regarding the state's 4-percent pay-per-view tax.
Suing UFC fans isn't the way to combat Internet piracy. Ben Fowlkes presents the most logical response (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/3/19/2885466/suing-ufc-fans-isnt-the-way-to-combat-internet-piracy-or-to-turn) to the UFC's odd declaration that fans who stream pay-per-view events aren't actually fans at all.
Three bouts announced for UFC 148. Tim Boetsch vs. Michael Bisping, Renan Barao vs. Jeff Hougland, and Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin highlight the latest high-profile (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/19/2884940/ufc-148-michael-bisping-vs-tim-boetsch-renan-barao-vs-jeff-hougland-mma-news)additions (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/3/20/2886674/tito-ortiz-rubber-match-vs-forrest-griffin-ufc-148-retirement) to UFC 148.

Check out Ronda Rousey (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/131295/ronda-rousey) as she talks about her infamous movie theater brawl and waxes poetic about fighting to regain our humanity on ESPN's Dan Le Batard is Highly Questionable.

Morning Report: Man vs. Woman MMA Matches, Brendan Schaub's Phone Gets Blended

Mar 21, 2012 - If we can, let's rewind a couple weeks to March 2, 2012. Miesha Tate (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/130035/miesha-tate) and Ronda Rousey (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/131295/ronda-rousey) are doing their thing, Strikeforce (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/promotion/strikeforce) weigh-ins go off without a hitch, and then Bryan Caraway (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/141451/bryan-caraway) says some unfortunate things about knocking Rousey's teeth in.

Now, as a man, making public statements about beating women probably isn't the smartest idea. But a funny thing happens the next night. Miesha Tate's arm is nearly snapped in half. Twice.

And a minor debate pops up in the MMA community: could Rousey actually defeat Caraway? Of course, the arguments were purely speculative, because sanctioned MMA matches between men and women could never happen. But, that's not entirely true.

Fort Hood Combatives tournament featured Man vs. Woman MMA matches. Recent matches at Fort Hood's U.S. Army Combative Championships featured no gender divisions, meaning men and women were pitted against each other (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/20/2885897/man-vs-woman-mma-fort-hood-army-combatives).
Anthony Pettis to undergo surgery, out eight weeks. According to intrepid journalist Chael P. Sonnen, "Showtime" will be out for eight weeks (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/20/2889038/anthony-pettis-undisclosed-surgery-out-eight-weeks-next-fight-lightweight-ufc) due to upcoming surgery, and when he comes back, it'll be at 155 pounds.
Ian McCall vs. Demetrious Johnson rematch official. Uncle Creepy vs. Mighty Mouse for the flyweight semi-finals has been added to UFC on FX 3 (http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2012/3/20/2888950/ian-mccall-vs-demetrious-johnson-rematch-ufc-fx-3-mma-news), which is slated for June 8, 2012.
About that Mirko Cro Cop retiring thing, yeah, that may not be true. Cro Cop revealed he may be over the retirement hump and mulling a return to K-1 or MMA (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/20/2888126/ufc-mirko-cro-cop-injuries-k-1-pat-barry-mma-news).

Morning Report: Canada Hits the Jackpot, MMA Training Rocky-Style

Mar 22, 2012 - Canada may not be setting the sports world on fire right now, but our affable northern neighbors undoubtedly won the MMA lottery on Wednesday.

Not only did resident national hero Georges St. Pierre (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122591/georges-st-pierre) offer a positive status report (and seem surprisingly open to an Anderson Silva (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122568/anderson-silva) superfight), but somewhere amongst yesterday's 40 different fight announcements, word slipped out that the Canadians would play host to six different UFC pay-per-view events over the next two years.

And the headliner for the first one? None other than the most feared featherweight alive -- mister Jose Aldo Jr (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122473/jose-aldo). Not a bad haul for one day, eh? (Sorry, that was just awful.)

UFC announces events in Calgary, Toronto and Montreal for 2012. UFC President Dana White announced a trio of upcoming events (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/21/2890526/ufc-announces-events-in-calgary-toronto-and-montreal-for-2012-and) slated throughout Canada for both 2012 and 2013.
Georges St. Pierre hoping for November return. St. Pierre is on target for a November return to action, and though Carlos Condit is in his sights, "Rush" still left the door open (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/21/2891674/with-rehab-progressing-georges-st-pierre-hoping-for-november-return) for a potential superfight with Anderson Silva.
Jake Ellenberger vs. Martin Kampmann booked for Ultimate Fighter Finale main event. Jake "The Juggernaut" Ellenberger and Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann will meet in a primetime welterweight clash (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/21/2890612/dana-white-announces-martin-kampmann-vs-jake-ellenberger-as-5-round) on June 1st, 2012.
Randy Couture talks Fedor Emelianenko. Couture took a break from Hollywood to discuss his retirement, his son Ryan's budding fight career, and the dream match-up with Fedor Emelianenko (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/21/2891945/randy-couture-son-ryan-mma-ufc-fedor-emelianenko-expendables-movie) that never materialized.
Rio de Janeiro soccer stadium to host Silva-Sonnen 2. Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II has shifted from Sau Paulo, Brazil to a Rio de Janeiro soccer stadium (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/21/2890658/dana-white-rio-de-janeiro-soccer-stadium-to-host-silva-sonnen-2) expected to seat 80,000 crazed fight fans.

Media Stew:
Meanwhile in Russia, Sergei Kharitonov (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/128654/sergei-kharitonov) stopped by the butcher shop to pummel some pork, Rocky-style.
Brian Stann (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/128666/brian-stann) recounts his time in the U.S. Marines and tells the heartwrenching story of Operation Matador -- a mission that earned Stann the Silver Star award, but still haunts him to this day.
Brandon Han became an unfortunate internet sensation when a clip of Courtnie Korpela choking him unconscious (http://youtu.be/Hn8Jrx6XKzU) hit the YouTube circuit late last year. A few months later, Han was offered a chance at revenge in a Man vs. Woman rematch on Tosh.0. NSFW: Language, General Bruce Buffer Awesomeness.
Cristiano Marcello (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/151651/cristiano-marcello) will have a mighty challenge on his hands in this week's TUF: Live fight against Justin Lawrence (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/151663/justin-lawrence). So while we wait for Friday, check out Marcello busting out his grappling wizardry in enemy territory against Hector Munoz.

Morning Report: Three Steps to Winning a Bellator Tournament Without Even Fighting

Mar 23, 2012 - It's official. Eric Prindle vs. Thiago Santos (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight/1688/bellator-62-eric-prindle-vs-thiago-santos) is the strangest and least satisfying 84-second rivalry in the history of mixed martial arts.
If you're Prindle right now, how exactly are you supposed to feel when you earn $100,000 for: 1.) getting your testicle soccer kicked so hard, you wind up in the hospital with an injury that takes three months to heal, 2.) training for four months to avenge your manhood, only to have the opportunity delayed another seven days because you get a touch of the flu and your rival is toeing the line of being illegally large, and then, 3.) large rival has another week to stop cultivating mass (http://shop.fxnetworks.com/img/product/resized/700/00360875-126700_catl_500.jpg?k=4ab1e3ef&pid=360875&s=catl&sn=fx), yet he somehow comes in larger than ever before.

At that point, haven't you kind of earned that paycheck? So congratulations Eric Prindle (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/130766/eric-prindle), on your Bellator Season 5 heavyweight tournament win. Onwards to Cole Konrad (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122986/cole-konrad).

Eric Prindle wins $100K Bellator tournament, will challenge Cole Konrad. Thiago Santos missed weight by 11 pounds (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/22/2896077/eric-prindle-vs-thiago-santos-appears-off-bellator-62-card-following) at Thursday night's Bellator 62 weigh-ins (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/22/2894431/bellator-62-weigh-in-results-live-from-texas-for-santos-vs-prindle), leading to the cancellation of his heavyweight match-up against Eric Prindle. As a result, Bellator officials declared Prindle the winner (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/22/2896155/eric-prindle-wins-bellator-tournament-winner-cole-konrad) of the Season 5 heavyweight tournament, earning the former soldier $100,000 and a title shot against Cole Konrad.
The hurt business: a big night on small scene. Grudge Training Center's lesser-known members fight for recognition and meager paychecks (http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/3/22/2893805/the-hurt-business-a-big-night-on-the-small-scene#) on a local Denver fight card in part three of Ben Fowlkes' ongoing series that examines the hidden lives of pro MMA fighters.
UFC's TUF: Brazil broadcast schedule, fight-in bouts. Opening round match-ups have been released (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/22/2892809/ufc-tuf-brazil-stream-sunday-online-ultimate-fighter-vitor-belfort-vs-wanderlei-silva) for The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, which is slated to debut this Sunday at 11:30 p.m. EST and can be seen by non-Brazilian audiences on a UFC-owned microsite (http://br.ufc.com/tuftv).
Ronda Rousey to be featured in ESPN's Body Issue. "Rowdy" Ronda will join the likes of Jon Jones and Gina Carano as the next MMA star to strip down (http://www.cagepotato.com/ronda-rousey-will-be-the-next-naked-mma-star-in-espns-body-issue/) for ESPN's annual 'Body Issue.'
Justin.tv wins partial dismissal of UFC lawsuit. Online live video streaming service Justin.tv won a partial dismissal (http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2012/3/22/2891833/justin-tv-dismissal-zuffa-ufc-lawsuit-trademark-copyright-mma-news) of a lawsuit Zuffa, LLC brought against them for illegal broadcasts of UFC 121.

Quick thought: Gerônimo Mondragon has to be the single coolest name since Lance Uppercut. Anyway, Mondragon and Rodrigo Mamute recently engaged in a brawl that is being referred to as the Brazilian version of Kongo vs. Barry, so you should definitely check it out. (HT: Middle Easy (http://middleeasy.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7525:this-video-is-probably-the-greatest-brazilian-comeback-victory-of-2012&catid=34:organizations))
No one knows for sure if Brian Ebersole (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/129408/brian-ebersole) will bust out his patented cartwheel kick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3QPaQgTr1o) when he takes on T.J. Waldburger (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/129721/tj-waldburger) at UFC on FX 4 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/95370/ufc-on-fx-4), but if this clip proves anything, his mantra of "it takes balls" is indeed true.
Nothing's better for slow times than jaw-dropping violence. So remind yourself of how insanely scary Jose Aldo (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122473/jose-aldo) is with this stomp and soccer kick filled highlight package. Trust us, it's totally worth it. (HT: Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/r7rzi/just_a_reminder_of_how_good_jose_aldo_really_is/))
Check out one of the UFC's brightest rising stars, Alexander Gustafsson (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122632/alexander-gustafsson), talking about each of his past fights in the Octagon and calling a loss to Thiago Silva (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/128668/thiago-silva) next month "impossible."

Morning Report: TUF Brazil Brings the Violence, Cyborg Santos Fights a Japanese Man</h1>

Mar 26, 2012 - Well folks, we're halfway there. 21 days up, 21 days down, and now just 21 days left until the UFC hits with a blistering summer lineup.

If you missed it, The Ultimate Fighter: Live and Bellator found a new weekend friend -- TUF: Brazil (which can be seen in its entirety here (http://www.ufc.com/tuf-brasil-episode-1?tufbrasil)). Given that Brazilians make up 43-percent of the current UFC champions, expectations for the first international TUF season were understandably high, but if your violence quota was in any way lacking, it admirably filled the void. Plus, where else could we hear Wanderlei Silva (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122569/wanderlei-silva) bragging about his junk? (More on that later.)

Enomoto is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment.

Where else but a Japanese game show could you see Cyborg Santos (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/129822/cristiane-santos) duke it out with a shockingly capable male comedian? This battle of the sexes actually gets pretty heated. (HT:Bloody Elbow (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/25/2901815/cristiane-cyborg-santos-takes-on-a-male-japanese-comedian-in-an-mma))
Another under the radar nugget from the weekend: Sergei Kharitonov (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/128654/sergei-kharitonov) returned to action for the first time since his Strikeforce (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/promotion/strikeforce) loss to Josh Barnett (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/129198/josh-barnett). Now watch this ridiculousness and tell me you wouldn't love to see him on the UFC's all-heavyweight card.

Three weeks into TUF 15 and not only is Team Cruz dominating the Octagon, they're crushing the YouTube battle as well. Check out The Dominator clowning on Faber in this reenactment. Nice extra touch: the sharpie'd Faber chin.

Today's episode of This Week in Questionable Reffing comes from CFC 12, featuring Mark "The Great White Shark" Potter knocking out Larry Watts, a guy wearing a t-shirt waving off the bout, but not actually waving off the bout, and the bout continuing for another one-sided 30 seconds. Morning Report: Ronda Rousey Upstages Cyborg Santos, Fights Three Japanese Men

Mar 27, 2012 - Another lazy spring afternoon passes and we're again left to make our own fun until the MMA schedule picks back up. So while we wait, let's use the contrast of yesterday's (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/26/2898163/morning-report-ufc-tuf-brazil-live-mma-results-bellator-62-cyborg-santos-fights-japanese-man) and today's odd Japanese game show clips to kickstart a little discussion.

Ronda Rousey (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/131295/ronda-rousey) is unquestionably the queen bee of women's mixed martial arts right now. Her next test will likely be Sarah Kaufman (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122594/sarah-kaufman) -- a relentless Canadian who poses her own problems -- but for the sake of argument, let's say "Rowdy" does what she does and finishes Kaufman in the first round via armbar, and then offs one more opponent in the same fashion. Around that time, the exiled former queen bee, Cris "Cyborg" Santos (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/129822/cristiane-santos), would likely be priming for her return, and she has already made it very clear she intends to cut down to 135 pounds and smash Rousey's face in (http://www.cagepotato.com/twitter-beef-of-the-day-ronda-rousey-just-signed-her-death-warrant/). Santos, of course, has violently ruled the WMMA throne since 2009, though now that reign is plagued with doubt because of her positive steroid test.

Given the dearth of depth in the women's divisions, it isn't that crazy to think "Cyborg" would be immediately thrown into a promoter's dream title fight against Rousey. So what do you think, readers? Would "Cyborg" return with a vengeance and crush the champ? Or would the rowdy one run through a PED-less Santos? Let us know in the comments below.

The MMA Hour. Ariel Helwani and The MMA Hour return with another two-plus hour show (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/26/2902372/the-mma-hour-with-rebney-in-studio-davis-torres-macdonald-alvarez) that features Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney in studio, as well as interviews with Phil Davis, Miguel Torres, Rory MacDonald, Eddie Alvarez and Tom "Kong" Watson.
Cesar Gracie not going to let Nick Diaz quit MMA. The person closest to Nick Diaz, his brother Nate, believes his abrupt retirement is for real. Diaz's trainer Cesar Gracie, however, isn't about to watch that happen. (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/26/2904627/ufc-nick-diaz-cesar-gracie-drug-test-retirement-marijuana-nsac#comments)
Silva-Sonnen II confirmed for UFC 147. MMA's biggest rematch is finally on the books for UFC 147, as Chael Sonnen will take on Anderson Silva at the 47,000-seat Estádio Olímpico João Havelange (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/26/2903453/silva-sonnen-ii-confirmed-for-ufc-147-on-june-23-in-rio-de-janeiro) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on June 23, 2012.
The Ultimate Fighter 15 ratings. The third episode of TUF: Live aired last Friday night and averaged 1.2 million viewers (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/26/2904798/ultimate-fighter-tuf-15-ratings-fx-average-1-2-million-viewers-ep-3-mma) on FX.
Top trainer Freddie Roach lists top five boxers in MMA. Legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach broke down his list of the top five boxers in mixed martial arts (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/26/2905002/top-trainer-freddie-roach-top-five-boxers-mma-anderson-silva-nick-diaz#storyjump).

Check out the sequel to yesterday's Battle of the Sexes (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2012/3/26/2898163/morning-report-ufc-tuf-brazil-live-mma-results-bellator-62-cyborg-santos-fights-japanese-man) between Cyborg Santos and a Japanese man. This time the champ herself, Ronda Rousey, ups the ante by taking on three Japanese men in a clip from the same bizarre game show. (Big thanks to reader @pegson (https://twitter.com/#!/pegson) for the tip.)
Has there ever been a UFC commercial that prominently featuring an English-speaking Anderson Silva? Maybe that's why this UFC on FOX promo seems a tad weird. (HT: MMA Mania (http://www.mmamania.com/2012/3/26/2904966/video-anderson-silva-speaks-english-new-ufc-fox-commercial-mma#storyjump))
Speaking of Anderson Silva, his old buddy Mr. Chael P. Sonnen (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122570/chael-sonnen) had some choice words after the champ said Sonnen should stop talking and start training. (HT: Middle Easy (http://middleeasy.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7572:c&catid=34:organizations#comments))
Mark Matheny is known as one of the better refs in MMA, so you'd figure he has reasonably good judgment. But after watching what he does in his spare time, that dream has been thoroughly crushed.
Bloody Elbow's Anton Tabuena (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/3/26/2903032/tweet-of-the-day-ufc-star-jon-fitchs-evolving-facial-hair) brought this to our attention and it felt criminal not to share. Fresh from a loss to Johny Hendricks (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/127154/johny-hendricks), Jon Fitch (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122576/jon-fitch) set out on a beard conquest of sizable proportions. Several weeks later he showed off the progress via Twitter, and it was impressive:
http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1025970/Jon_Fitch_Beard_medium_medium.jpg (http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1025970/Jon_Fitch_Beard_medium.jpg)

But springtime is coming, so earlier this week Fitch stepped up his facial hair game dramatically, shaving down the all-arounder into a legendary 'stache that would make Sam Elliot (http://www.shavingstuff.com/pictures/samelliott400.jpg) proud. Well done, sir. Well done.
