Thsi story amazing. I saw it on the news yesterday!

Not only does Jesus save -- he pays!

A Long Island man proved that although money doesn't grow on trees, it may sprout up in hymnals after he prayed for his mom to hit a jackpot the day before she won $1 million in the lottery.

And the divine intervention doesn't stop there -- the newly minted millionaire, a staunch Catholic, says the winnings have brought her heathen son back into the religious fold.

"God performed two miracles, a true miracle!" a tearful Gloria Bentivegna declared yesterday, clutching her $1 million check from the New York Lottery.

Dennis Clark
HAVE FAITH! Gloria Bentivegna (above) says her $1 million lottery win was an answer to son Sal's prayer.
Bentivegna, 61, of West Babylon, said that on Easter Sunday, she was on her knees at her parish church, praying for her son Sal, 28.

"I prayed, and I asked Jesus to help my son believe in the Lord," she recalled. "I prayed, 'Let him have a miracle in his life.' "

The next day, she, her son, and other family members were on a day trip to an Atlantic City casino, where Bentivegna lost money on penny-slot machines.

Her son then kidded that she should pray to "your God to ask for a million dollars," but the good Catholic refused, saying only he could pray in her place.

"God, I don't know if you're real or not, but if you are there, please let my mother win a million dollars," he cynically implored in the casino.

"It was off the cuff at the slot machines," Sal said. "If Jesus wants me to believe in him, that's what he'll do."

The following day, the Lord made it rain.

Bentivegna, a single mom on disability, went to a charity auction at a local Lutheran church, where she bought a "lotto tree" of unscratched instant lottery tickets.

One of them, a Sweet Million ticket, paid off. She will receive $50,000 a year for 20 years, which is $33,000 a year after taxes.

"Lo and behold, she gets it the next day," Sal said. "I sat back and thought about it and realized the odds against this are astronomical. I can't shrug off that Jesus had a hand in it. No pun intended, it was a Godsend."

What they don't say in the article is that the numbers that appeared when she scratched the ticket were her son's birthday.. AWESOME!

I have always felt gambling was wrong so this is sort of a hard thing for me to say "Yay God used the lotto to save this man!" I'll just go with being glad that this man hopefully true finds Jesus as Savior, not just to think God is real.

And just in case anyone want to dispute gambling the only case of it I have found in the bible is where the soliders who killed Jesus "rolled dice" to see who would get his clothes. Not a good example of the bible supporting gambling.

I agree, but I don't see any trouble with God using this for His glory. Alcoholism is wrong, but how many times has God used a drunk hitting rock bottom to bring them to Him?

Sounds to me like in this case at least God chose to take a bad thing and use it for good! Not saying I approve of the gambling but since the guy was doing it anyway I'm glad God worked a spiritual miracle.

It is a nice story!

I guess it just has the potential to be a polarizing topic. Gambling and such.

I don't gamble but it's not because I think it's wrong. It's because I don't like to lose money!

Yep. Because they obviously don't understand God's nature. And they don't know how to rightly divide the word. And it is clearly man's dogma.

I'm hoping "they" is directed at the people in the story because I was careful to to not to deminish the fact that God can work in whatever situation He desires to. Think about the story - I doubt God is real so I test Him over a lotto win. God isn't likely to put lotto wins into place for everyone that demands a sign to prove He is real. I think we get to test God in 1 place and it isn't in Him proving to us that He is real. What faith is there in that?

I think I'd like to think on this one a while and then respond. Until then, the biggest thing is someone coming to Christ (I don't know the man's heart, but I'm not going to doubt him at this point).

Paul said, "I become all things to all men in order to win some"

If you [I]think[I] something is wrong, whether it actually is or not, it is sinful for you to do it.

Just a few thoughts to throw in there...

I was going to thank you guys for your comments, too. But then I deleted it because I was afraid the sensitive kids around here might chew me up and spit me out. :unsure-1: I'm glad you said it though.
