I stumbled onto an interesting show this weekend. I was changing channels and came across a new show called The Killing. It is on AMC on Sunday nights and this weekend was the 3rd episode. The series is about the murder of a high school girl who is found drowned in the trunk of a car belonging to a prominent local politician. The entire series will follow the investigation of this one crime. The show is based on a series that was a huge hit in Denmark. It was subsequently shown in the UK on the BBC with subtitles and was again a hit. The American version is set in Seattle and follows the lead detective, a young petite red-haired lady who is assigned the case on her last day of work before a move to California. The series has a mood and pace that really draws in the viewer. Because the pace is slow and riveting, they are able to develop the characters and follow several plot lines. It was so interesting, I went online and watched the first two episodes to get up to speed. The first three episodes are online at AMC

I'm going to go online and watch! I saw the previews a while back, but forgot to check back and set DVR for it! It looks really good!

This show is really good.

I like the characters the best.....they really get us involved with what's going on.

Apparently whoever it is that runs the UFC's twitter account likes this show, too:

Who's running this mma match on The Killing tonight? Don't they have weight classes?

I think that was more of a tough-guy contest with MMA type rules.

My sister has been watching this; I didn't know anything about it until she mentioned it last Sunday and then I saw this thread. I just caught last week's episode they replayed this morning and then watched tonight's episode. I need to go to the link and watch the first episodes leading up to tonight, but I'm definitely hooked.

I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who didn't see tonight's episode; I'll just say it leaves you with this sick, awful "Oh no!" realization... :scared0011:

I can't wait for next week's episode!

Yes, last night's episode left me feeling the same way Bonnie.

Although I like the show, I'm growing tired of just about every episode ending back at square one....and we're no closer to finding out who killed Rosie.

Bonnie, last week I missed about 20 minutes of the episode and I went on-line to try to watch it. At one time there were free episodes on the website but it appears that they are not available any longer. Under the "Schedule" header there is a "Where to Watch" link which list several pay options for viewing (iTunes, etc.). Unfortunately, it looks like they are charging about $2 an episode.

Because it is an entire series revolving around one crime, they have to have a lot of "red herrings" to stretch out the plot for a season. I am getting a little annoyed at some of the political messages they are pushing.

Thanks Play for that info. I hate that I missed the very beginning, but...

Btw, Play, I happened to catch last week's episode Sunday morning when they replayed it. So if you miss any more, you might be able to catch a replay of it.

Play, I went to amctv.com and clicked on "The Killing" and then "Episodes" and then clicked on "Details" starting with Episode 1 to read what the episode entailed. I haven't got through all of them yet. I noticed some of the "comments" from people and they were asking the same thing, "Why can't I watch the episodes online?" so I guess we're all in the same boat. But, at least we can read about them...it's better than nothing.

I realized earlier today that I forgot to watch it Sunday. Maybe if we go by process of elimination of who we "don't" think it is...

You start.

I knew from the beginning that it wasn't the teacher. The show seems to have a politically correct bent. The Somali Muslim is not going to be the killer. I am thinking possibly the female assistant to the liberal politician.

Female and a liberal? I've never seen the show & I know that she can't possibly be a murderer!!

Ben, Ben, Ben. You have obviously never played politically correct poker. A black, Somali Muslim, pony-tailed, poetry-spouting, former white student-impregnating, public school teacher trumps a WASP, daughter-of-a-senator, political operative - even if she is a liberal woman. Don't you know anything?

O geez, I didn't realize how the deck was stacked! Of course if she's a manipulating b!tch, then it must be the woman!!

I need to go back to the site and finish reading about those episodes I initially missed before giving my idea of who I think it is.

As to yours...?...wasn't it his car or rather one associated with his campaign where her body was found? If so, why would she leave her in a car that could be traced back to him and draw that negative attention to him and his campaign? Also, they're obviously having a "thing" going on the side together. I was thinking that it does have to do with someone connected to the political campaign, but on the other side. But if it is someone associated with the liberal politician, I would think it's that guy who wanted to run that damning story about the pregnant girl before he got the "okay" from his politician. Just my thoughts for now; I'll get back to this once I finish "backtracking". :)

The liberal politician is the thin dark haired guy, right? Otherwise, I've got everything backwards!

Good points. The car was submerged under a lake. It was never meant to be found. It wouldn't make sense if it was a planned murder, but if it was a crime of passion committed in anger (without planning) it could make sense. If that happened, submerging the car so it will never be found points to a person with a campaign connection.

They sure played a dirty trick. I heard that it was picked up for a second season, but I thought the second season would be about a new case. I'm still leaning towards the female assistant to the politician as the murderer.

I missed a couple episodes. I have given up watching it week after week as it appears that the killer will not be revealed until the end of the season. I'll read reviews of the season. If they are good, I'll watch the season on Netflix.

I've recorded the first 3 episodes, but haven't watched any of it yet. I don't mind "some" suspense but having to wait 'til the end of Season 2 before the killer is finally revealed...I don't know if it will keep my interest either.
