From SlashDot.com:

Warner Bros. has announced that production has officially begun (http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150168211921558) on Peter Jackson's movie adaptation of The Hobbit (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hobbit-what-you-need-know-169570). Jackson even posted a couple of pictures of himself on one of the sets (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=141884481557&aid=342131). This despite the strikes (http://entertainment.slashdot.org/story/10/09/26/2042237/Unions-Urging-Actors-Not-To-Work-On-Hobbit-Movie), bankruptcies, contract disputes (http://entertainment.slashdot.org/story/08/02/12/0317238/Tolkien-Trust-Sues-New-Line-May-Kill-Hobbit), and legal actions (http://news.slashdot.org/story/09/07/16/1430249/LoTR-Lawsuit-Threatens-Hobbit-Production) that have swarmed Jackson and the project since his Lord of the Rings days. Admit it, secretly you've been dying to see this happen.

I can't wait! I hope it's as good as LOTR...I see the picture of Peter has the proper round door with the doorknob in the center.

The Hobbit and Shogun are my 2 favorite books of all time.
