:) for all of those who talk about the good side of a Country without a Monarchy...I would love for you to spend some time watching this documentary (I appologise for its length but its fascinating) and I would love some feedback
This is the Story of what happened during Civil War England and The Birth of The United Kingdom
The Rise and Fall of Oliver Cromwell.
Part One http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q76j0h1eCTk
(depicts the infighting between the two different strands of Parliamentarians. The Presbyterians, who wanted to negotiate with the King for a Denomination outside of the Church of England, and the Separatists who wanted no denominations and Church of England, or King. Cromwell Vs Manchester, and the Birth of The New Model Army)

(King Charles 1st looses the civil war, but appeals to the Scottish Presbyterians to save him from The New Model Army. Heeding the call, Scotland tries to Invade England to bring about Restoration. The British Presbyterians however, aggree with the Scots, on Negotiation. Cromwell Halts the Scot Advance, and then declaires Parliament, along with the King, as corrupt and The New Model Army crushes both the Royalists AND the Presbyterian Parliamentarians
King Charles 1st is Publically Executed, His Son flees, the Monarchy is effectively abolished)

(As England becomes a Military Republic under Cromwells new Parliament, King Charles the second flees to Scotland, who aggree only to help him if he will, when restored, aggree to the negotiation that his late Father would not. Charles is forced to aggree, and the Scots begin a second attempt at invasion for Regieme Restoration. Outraged, Oliver Cromwell and The New Model Army not only defeated the invasion, but continued to conqure Scotland completely. Charles escaped and fled to Europe But now the New Parliament, ineffective, unellected, and refusing to accept democrasy, even whispering about removing Cromwell from Charge. Oliver Cromwell returned to London, walked into the House, and smashed the mace on the floor, disbanding Parliament once and for all. England became a Military Dictatorship)

(Cromwell became Lord Protectorate, supported by the Army, He tries to ellect another parliament, but that also fails. So he turns to the Army, and creates what is akin to Martial Law of England, by a Council of Army Chiefs to act like politicians. Military Style Values are forced onto the entire Civilian Population. This prooves unpopular, so another parliament is created, This parliament decides the only way forward was to make Oliver Cromwell...a King...but the Army made it clear that was out of order. He aggreed to the powers, but would not ever accept the title.
Oliver Cromwell died)

(Richard Cromwell, by The Grace of GOD, The Second Lord Protectorate, is assumed to power. He was nominated on the death bed of his Father. but he lacked both charisma from the people, and support from the Army. He sets up a news parliament...but the Council of Chiefs had decided that they would take control and use Richard as a figure head, duly Richard disbands parliament, so the army, as a council can rule. But an army without a head cant rule, and the entire military force began to separate into discension....England began to fall apart completely...so bad and quick was the dramatic chaos...that the original Parliament who had served under the previous King was brought back to pick up the pieces!!
It took just Eight Months for everything to fail after Olivers passing. Richard then resigned...and in a manner of speaking...and with negotiation, the old Parliament brought back the True King (charles the second who was still hiding in Europe) when the Rump Parliament voted itself into oblivion ahahahahahahahaha. The Army declined to intervene because of the desension within its ranks. Some guy called Monk from Scotland sort of held the country together, but only until the restoration of a true parliament and the return of King Charles.
The Monarchy was restored...and England had learned its lesson, that its subjects cant be trusted to rule in any other manner, then a Parliament, and a Monarch.
The End
