Basic editing of some video & sound of my daughter singing for display on her youtube & facebook & to send to some venues

The sound quality can really depend on the camera. I think that on my MacBook there is good video editing software and I actually got that for GarageBand etc. as I sing myself.

I have some freeware stuff, but either it is crappy, or it is out of my league, lol. What do you think you can do?

I don't know exactly. Do you want the sound quality improved? There is a free program called Audacity and it's decent and fairly easy to use. If you have a friend with a Mac, ask them if they would let your daughter use GarageBand. From there you'd be able to put songs on CD and send them to places. Good quality stuff as well.
