Ian Cameron, the father of Prime Minister David Cameron, has died after suffering a stroke.

He was 77.

A Downing Street spokesman said he died shortly after the prime minister arrived at the hospital in France.

Ian Cameron had been admitted to hospital following a stroke and heart complications while on holiday.

David Cameron was informed of his father's condition this morning and decided to fly to France to be with his parents.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg stood in for Mr Cameron at Prime Minister's Questions.

Ian Cameron was born with both legs deformed. Throughout his life he underwent repeated operations in an attempt to straighten them and ease his pain.

Despite his disability Ian Cameron had a successful career as a stockbroker and was a former director of estate agent John D Wood.

Earlier this year David Cameron described his father as a "glass half-full" person with a "sense of optimism".

I actually wouldn't be against it. This country needs another turn around.

I like Maggie Thatcher. She did what had to be done after the Winters of Discontent. Yes, she rulled with an Iron fist, and she destroyed some peoples livelihoods, and she did stuff with taxes that would make the Americans on this forum spontaneously combust with rage...BUT she did what she felt was needed, and she did it well. This is summed up of course in her reply to the final question which lays out all the failings of her Government, and the irony of her quoting Saint Franciss. To which she remarks the peace which has descended on the Coal minning community. Maggie Thatcher of course distroyed the Coal Mines forever.

This was her last PMQ ( as rowdy as ever, in the commons, I love the labour minister who shouts out "cant the speaker read" to which he replies "that was very impertenant of the Right Hon" ahahahaha) after she had decided to resign, I would draw your attention to the dame who says the following

"Mr Speaker, may I voice the profound regret of millions in this country and thousands of millions outside that my Right Hon Friend is not to continue in her High Office, and ask if she's aware of their acknowledgement for her unrivaled service in turning back the tide of socialism, in ending the the brutal tyrany of the militants in the Trade Unions and in re-establishing Britain as a Great Power. Finally can I ask her to reflect with pride that a thousand years from now when everyone else in this house is dead and dust, she alone will have her hallowed name in the history books"

I hope when she does die, they give her a State Funneral, or the comparison, like with Churchill

For those Americans who dont know. Maggie Thatcher was forced to resign half way through her third consecutive term, in much the same way that she herself had used to gain the party leadership from the Conservatives during the Winters of Discontent. They felt she had gone to far, and that if they had any chance of winning the Fourth term, they could do so with her policies...but...unfortunately not with her. It came down to a vote of no confidence, before she aggreed to stand aside...Her Sucessor would go on to win the Fourth Term, with the biggest majority of any Prime Minister in British History two years later
