I have a different one. i guess an older edition because mine only bends at the hip and shoulder. But we have a lot of the UFC action figures and the cage. When a fight comes on I set the cage up on top of our entertainment center and if I have a both of the fighters from any of the fights I position them fighting in the cage. If we don't have both of them i just arrange them how ever and people can play with them. I do this because we always have a party when fights come on and it's very amusing to our friends. Unfortunately after a few drinks some of the guys think it's funny to position the figures in, um, well bedroom positions.

Yeah, those are the Round 5 figures & these are the UFC Jakks figures. I think the R5 ones are cooler, but I still need all the Matt-swag I can get my hands on!! :happydancing:

I dunno why, but the action figures just look a little weird and not realistic enough for me. Like the old He-man figures I grew up with- everyone is the same size and build, just different color and different head. I wish Jakks wasn't making these. That being said, I will still buy a Matt, once they hit store shelves.

Nate- you could always have Matt fight the rancor, to make it a fair fight:laugh:

Considering how expensive tooling costs are and the price of oil-based plastics these days, I'm not surprised that they are reusing body parts for several different fighters. It's a common practice in every toy line, especially ones with these larger figures that have lots of articulation.

I agree

It is merchandising and it makes the fighters money. So I think it is a good thing. BY this logic they should not sell T shirts either because the WWE does as well. Each fighter is like a brand in itself. They should market that. I have yet to see the UFC act in any way like the WWE in this way. They are simply captilizing on their brand.

I agree. I think the figures are pretty cool and lots of other sports stars get turned into action figures and other licensed merchandise that you can readily find at Toy R Us. Namely football and baseball. In fact they've been selling baseball action figures since the 1980s.

Merchandising is ultimately good for the sport of MMA, as long as the stuff is high quality, which these figures look to be.

I'm not opening it just yet. I'm probably going to have Matt autograph this one and I'll buy a second one to open:

The likeness is pretty good, at worst it looks like a close relative; but I still think it's a better overall likeness than the Round 5 figure (I would love to see Round 5 take another crack at a Matt Hughes figure, since they've already remade Randy Couture):

Well, I couldn't wait, I just had to open the figure up. I also went by the store today and found a BJ Penn figure with a certain accessory that I thought would look much better on Matt than it did on BJ.

Of course, there was another reason that I wanted to get the BJ Penn figure to go with my Matt Hughes figure:
http://www.matt-hughes.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=54&pictureid=637

Thanks! The figure actually looks about as good as one could expect for a mass produced toy. But they do have common parts that they obviously reuse between different figures. As a result, the legs on Matt's toy are much thinner than in real life and the waist articulation makes all of the figures look like they are straddling an invisible fence when they stand up straight.

I think Matt's eyebrows may be too long and they definitely come too close together in the center, which might be throwing the likeness off. I'll most likely try to fix that by removing some of the excess paint. His neck is also too short, but that seems to be a common problem across this entire line.

Overall, though, a pretty well made toy.

I think they are releasing him again in a 2-pack with GSP, so if that's going to be based on either of the first two fights, then Matt should have the darker shorts.

Cool because in 3-5 days I'll be playin' with him

I do not trust the web for anything when it comes to putting a CC or something on it. HAHA.... I mean, that is so sad. **snicker**

Anyways, putting dolls or action figures out in the sun will have the exact opposite effect from giving them a tan. It will actually bleach them to near white, if they are left in direct sunlight, or years and years of exposure to indirect sunlight will cause the plastics to turn yellow (especially white plastic). Basically UV rays and plastics are not friends at all.

I think Dana's gone overboard about making money. I'm sure he gets a royalty, or charged Jakks a good fee. Notice the difference in price and quality between Jakks' version and the UFC's version. I'm always checking for Matt Hughes t-shirts and caps ... but I think I'll skip these.

If a Matt Serra figure comes out I am going to buy a few and operate on them like Sid from Toy Story did to all the toys!!:devil:

Well, if you knew any better you'd know that Lou has been a fan longer then a lot of people here and as I recall, he goes back to a couple of forums change overs. Just because someone doesn't live here like we do doesn't mean they aren't fans. And so what if he doesn't like the doll, paper OR plastic. I didn't like one ( forget which) AT ALL, does that mean I'm not a fan? How ridiculous.

I feel like I just watched a kid get a spankin!

I think they are releasing him again in a 2-pack with GSP, so if that's going to be based on either of the first two fights, then Matt should have the darker shorts.

Just think you'll be able to take Matt Hughes AND Forrest Griffin to bed with you every night.

Anyways, some more pictures since I just really like this figure:

In the right lighting, the likeness is much better:

From the profile, you can tell that this was based on a 3D scan of Matt's face. Although the short neck problem is really noticeable here.

well I don't mean to bring up a thread from the past but I was in Walmart yesterday and they had the two pack with Matt and GSP that you were referring to Nate so I picked it up :) (and Matt is wearing the dark shorts)
