Double trouble? Junie Browning's brother on "The Ultimate Fighter 9"
by Dann Stupp on Feb 13, 2009 at 1:15 pm ET
The upcoming ninth edition of "The Ultimate Fighter," which debuts April 1 on Spike TV with a U.S. vs. U.K. theme, will feature at least one familiar last name.

A source close to the fighter has told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Robert Browning (1-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), the younger brother of controversial season-eight cast member Junie Browning, was one of 16 American fighters chosen to compete in the season-opening elimination round.

The show is currently in production, and the 22-year-old Browning is in Las Vegas with the other American and British participants.

As with other recent seasons of the show, "TUF 9" uses a 32-man tournament format (broken into two different weight classes). Each fighter must win an elimination-round bout to earn a spot on the official 16-person TV cast. The show will ultimately feature eight welterweight fighters and eight lightweights.

(To avoid spoilers, we aren't revealing the outcome of Browning's fight.)

"The Ultimate Fighter 9: U.S. vs. U.K." began production earlier this month. Former PRIDE champion Dan Henderson heads the U.S. team, and Michael Bisping, who was the middleweight winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 3," leads the U.K. squad. The show debuts on April 1 after a broadcast of UFC Fight Night 18.

According to the MMA.tv database, Robert Browning has a 1-0 professional record and a 4-2 amateur mark. He's fought exclusively in organizations in his home state of Kentucky, which included the American Fight League, where he holds the organization's amateur featherweight title. (One AFL fight, which included a colorful cage entrance and some questionable in-ring antics, can be found below.)

His brother, Junie Browning, a lightweight semifinalist for Team Mir on "The Ultimate Fighter 8," was nearly kicked off the show multiple times due to a series of outbursts, usually fueled by alcohol. He threw glasses at fellow cast members Kyle Kingsbury and Shane Primm, and UFC President Dana White read Junie the riot act on more than one occasion. He was knocked out of the competition by eventual show winner Efrain Escudero, but Junie rebounded for a second-round submission victory over Dave Kaplan at the show's live finale. He next meets Cole Miller in a UFC Fight Night 18 televised main-card bout on April 1.

Our source told MMAjunkie.com that Robert Browning, like his big brother, also creates some drama before he even steps into the cage.

somehow this doesnt surprise me. it will obviously help get more viewers and get guys like me who have no interest in watching this season to watch it (i dont care much for the coaches even though henderson is a good fighter). of course im still not going to watch it though lol.

i dont think it would be possible for him to not make weight considering he fights at featherweight and has fought at 135 as well numerous times. that alone tells you that he is there purely for ratings since he obviously doesnt belong at lightweight. Your first prediction however may be spot on.

I'm hoping against hope that he behaves better than Junie! Can't they find a good fighter from my state that Kentucky can be proud of? By the way Kentuckian on here that has a video of them fighting I hope they post it! Especially the wins!

If I remember correctly, on Season 8, they had the brother of the current LHW champion and brother of some guy named Clay Guida - both of them were the biggest jokes in the history of the show. Neither one made it and neither of them were in shape. I'm predicting the same with these guys.

Then on the TUF 10 finale, we can see Browning vs. Browning!!!

mannnnnn I think that totally sucks they bring this guy in just because hes junies brother...

A guy I train with went to the UF tryouts that Junie was at and didnt get on the show... And in my opinion would have destroyed him! But he just scored a deal with senoku (or however you spell it) so hes making his way up without going on the show.

But yehhhh whoohh

:unsure-1: yeah...out comes my poisen pen. I have nothing to lose over this. I dislike Dan Henderson, I dislike Michael Bisping, and I dislike Junie Browning, and I will dislike his brother unless he sports a different character.

On the upside...all have the opportunity to impress me and have some redemption...except for Junie Browning himself

The deliberate eye-poke verses Franklin. :angry:O right, that. I don't remember it well, but I don't think it was deliberate. It's just an unhappy side effect of the fingerless gloves. Yougo to punch, decide half way through you'd rather try to block the punch you see coming your way and/or push your opponent away. Your hand opens, the fingers come out & one accidentally catches cornea. I really don't think it was intentional.

Did you see the slo-mo though?

It looked deliberate to me. Besides...he's a trained athlete fighting on the maincard...he's in there for 15 mins and produces a headbutt and an eyepoke and wins the match. I cant tell you how angry that makes me. Franklin makes how many mistakes like that...? ohh...None

I'm REALLY angry at him for that, he has TUF to redeem himself...I feel like a fool because I trusted him too soon without the detailed research...and he let me down big time. So I officially withdrew all my support, I was so angry it inspired me to write and lobby that the judges get extra powers...I remember that didnt go down to well.

TUF can be a blessing, or a Curse...lets see how he fairs. He'd better impress me, because he now has a fair way to go before I'd think of supporting him again. I dont like being embarrised like that.

He knows exactly how I feel. ...and so does Franklin :ninja:

This should be fun. :frantics:

This is really why I don't watch the show that much, I'll pay more attention when it comes down to the final few than watch all the crap that goes on in the house.

Later.

I was hoping TUF 9 would be better than that last one, considering Hendo's on it...I guess that's not the case after all. Well, I guess I won't be watching this season either....I just hope Hendo's team wins.

Is he more talented than Junie? Junie pre-show, cause after he finished the show he improved ten fold at the finale.

Is the UFC serious? We're going to have to suffer through another Browning brother? What are they thinking? Other people have been kicked off the TUF show for stunts that were not as bad as the crap Junie pulled. Still - they kept giving him a 2nd chance, then a 3rd, a 4th.

And for those of you who are going to tell me to give Robert Browning a break, that we don't know if he's as bad as his brother...all I can say is watch this video and then we can talk:

What was that - MMA or WWE? The only way this kid can win is if he clowns around and distracts his opponent, who's trying to be a serious fighter. Even Matt Hughes, the referee for this match, walked off in disgust. I have two questions: 1) Is this the type of fighter we're going to have to watch on TUF 9?; and 2) Mrs. Browning really went ahead had another child after producing Junie?

Here's the link for the rest of the article as well as the fight they are talking about..

You could definitely tell Matt was disgusted by the way he practically threw his hand off and walked away.

So, this is what we have to look forward to for the next TUF? Another season of drunken louts and obscene acts with food. Great! :arrowthruhead:

Browning is lucky the other fighter had no skills at all. How did that guy even sign a pro fight? He got knocked down by jabs, twice, and then just quit.

I almost wanted to  for him. That was terrible! I can only imagine what was going through Matt's head as he watched this.
