He’s a Heisman Trophy winner. He’s a former NFL star. He is an Olympian in two-man bobsled. And now Herschel Walker is going to be a mixed martial artist.

Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz on Friday informed MMAWeekly.com that the Florida State Boxing Commission has approved Greg Nagy to be Walker’s opponent in his MMA debut on Jan. 30 at Strikeforce: Miami.

The 47-year-old Walker:huh: is a multi-faceted competitor that has excelled in nearly every one of his athletic endeavors. He won the Heisman Trophy as the top player in college football in 1982, is a two-time Pro Bowl player in the NFL, finished in seventh place in the 1992 Winter Olympics in the two-man bobsled competition, and holds a sixth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

He is in the midst of a 12-week training camp at San Jose, Calif.-based American Kickboxing Academy, working alongside fighters such as Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson, Cung Le, Jon Fitch, Mike Swick, Josh Koscheck, and several other top fighters.

Sounds like he's got some good people to train with! With the kind of talent his pedigree says its to bad he didn't start MMA a few years earlier! I would like to see a few wins however by athletes over 40!
