Interview with Carrie Prejean when it is found out she sent a sex tape of herself to her boyfriend when she was 17.

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/33823079/ns/today-today_people

Should she be charged with distributing child pornography or have to register as a sex offender as others have?

I'd like to hear what others think about it. If you think she shouldn't, should the others who have been charged and convicted of it have their charges dropped?

If she sent it (exclusively) to her boyfriend it does not fall under the same penalty. As for the other cases, its really a case by case basis.

I was just thinking about this story.

Why does this story matter?

At all?

Who gives?

Too vague.... who are the "others"?

I was actually just about to say it's a case by case basis but then Vizion came in and beat me to the punch

Well, I dont think the issue surrounding her celebrity is a big issue, i think its the more underlying problem of what the hell is a 17 yr old doing making a sex tape and the shuttling it around?

I mean, a lot of kids these days have NO concept of the consequences behind their actions, its unreal. This tape is going to be on the internet forever now. Her kids could see it, her grandkids, nieces, nephews etc etc etc.

There has to be some kind of law, or penalty to stop kids from doing these kinds of things...just my oppinion. I am not saying jail them, but there has to be something that could be done. I know the law hasnt caught up with technology yet, but geeze. When i was in highschool (i know im younger than most of you, im almost 25), girls tried hard not to be labeled a whore....at my younger sisters highschool, whenever i go to pick her up, it seems as if the girls are competing for the title now!!! my god, how they dress and stuff:sad:

So in LONG (sorry lol), i think she should have some charge brought against her. But anyone who viewed it or bought it should still be charged.

Pretty much a non-issue for me.. she was 17.. pretty much an adult..so kinda hard to call her a child.. it wasn't interesting to me when the bozo said she was dumb for speaking her mind when she was asked about same sex marriages... agree or disagree.. she spoke her mind.. and I have to get behind that. Seems like people are just out to get her.. but she seems to have also been a tool for "not fulfilling her obligations"..

don't really care.

Man, that is a slippery slope you are painting there at the end...

I agree with you that these times are very different, but what kind of law do you think could actually stop this?

 i agree you with you man, that is a slippery slope. Maybe i worded that wrong. Im not a lawyer, so the case law is something i am not to familiar with. I would think some kind of distribution charge or something, or some kind of fine that just says "hey, wake up!!!!".......but meh, maybe I am just on a bit of rant.

Why not? Isn't sending nude pictures or videotapes of someone under 18 considered child pornography whether or not the sender is under the age of 18?

As for the other cases, its really a case by case basis.

What makes her case different than some of the others accused and convicted of the same or similar thing? I will link to 2 hits I got off of google.

I was just thinking about this story.

Why does this story matter?

At all?

Who gives?

I think it is a story because she has already been in the news for losing her title of Miss California and the other pageant due in part for failing to reveal that she had posed nude or semi-nude before; a violation of the pageant rules. It kind of soils the goody goody image that she had painted for herself. Who here would want their child to send nude or semi-nude images of themselves to others while underage? I am guessing/hoping the answer is no one.

Too vague.... who are the "others"?

I was actually just about to say it's a case by case basis but then Vizion came in and beat me to the punch

I'll post some links at the end. These are just the first 2 links from my google search, there are probably many more.

There are actually laws in place I believe. I know that there are laws against sending and receiving child pornography; I believe that it falls in there somewhere.

Buzzard, isn't this girl low-hanging fruit for you and other liberals? I admit that this young woman is trying to milk her 15 minutes of fame for all it is worth and she has exhibited hypocrisy. But, for crying out loud, she is a beauty pageant contestant. She isn't a politician or a minister. She gave a wishy-washy answer to a very political question at a beauty pageant . . . a beauty pageant!! Why are they smashing a mosquito with a sledgehammer? Leave the poor girl alone and let her fade away into a normal life.

If she weren't trying to stay in the spotlight I am sure she would fade away. I'm a centrist actually and not a liberal.

I find it amusing that the revelation of this sex tape comes at a time when she is promoting her book. Her interview on Larry King showed her for what she is, a spoiled brat. A good looking spoiled brat, but a brat nonetheless. She is such a hypocrite and it's quite amusing watching her defend herself when she brought all of it on herself, the sex tape and the nude/semi-nude modeling and then screams foul and sues.

if you are referring to her answer about same sex marriages, I don't find that to be "wishy washy" at all.

Agree or disagree.. she said what she belived and was persecuted for it.

If it was not that, what did she say that was so "wish washy"?

In this thread I don't recall ever calling her wish-washy. And no, I wasn't talking about her pageant answer. I think she is bringing the things on herself, she doesn't seem to possess the good moral judgment that she preaches/preached about. Boob implants, sex tape, nude/semi-nude modeling, yeah, the poster child for good morals.

Note: I don't think boob implants show a lack of morals.

This is her answer to the question:

"Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And, you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But thatís how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman."

In the first two sentences she says that it is "great" that you can choose same-sex marriage. Subsequently, she says it should be between a man and a woman. She was trying not to offend people.

It would have been more diplomatic for me to say that she was being diplomatic; however, I didn't want to be wishy-washy, so I called her answer wishy-washy.

Yes, I agree, her behavior has been wrong. Give her a break. When that tape is released - and you know it will be released - I wouldn't be surprised if they find her dead from a suicide from an overdose of pills. She is a young, foolish woman with very poor judgment. She has been humiliated. It is time to back off. We all get the message - if you speak-up against the liberal establishment, you will be taken down.

And thats the message they want to make sure we all understand loud and clear! On a side note I didn't know it was against the law for a 17 yo to send such things of themselves! Not that I approve of such things! However if She hadn't of said what She did we would of never known about her moral Failure and She probably would still have the crown!

They've been trying to bring her down since she gave her answer to that question at the pageant. That's what got me, she was asked a question (by a gay guy) that was obviously (to me) a trap for anyone who wasn't going to answer, "Yay for Gays!" He didn't like her answer so he bashes her on his blog and everyone (including the media) start bashing her. She didn't give the "politically correct" answer. I do think she has been dumped on for that.

Regarding this sex tape: 1) she should have been honest about it up front with the pageant people (but they never are ) and 2) she shouldn't represent herself as one thing when she knows there is something out there to the contrary that can come back to bite her on the butt.

Her and the rest of these girls doing stuff like this, sexting and Girls Gone Wild, are going to learn the hard way that "yes, this type of stuff does matter and can affect your future". I don't think this was a good time for her to come out with a book. Oh, and yeah, never ever bash "The Donald", saint that he is , because for sure you're going to get it from all his friends in the media (Barbara WaWa and Larry King, etc...). Didn't she learn anything from Rosie.

Actually, this is completely contrary to Freedom of Speech. If someone wants to say that all blacks and latinos are evil, then they are fully within their rights as Americans to state that opinion. HOWEVER, they must be fully prepared to suffer the consequences of those words.

But, you're a Canadian, so I wouldn't expect you to understand the concept of "freedom." :tongue0011::wink:

I agree, this entire thread is just stirring the pot against a conservative girl. Bill Clinton had sex with an intern inside the Oval Office but that's none of our business. Michael Jackson molested young boys, but he was a talented performer so all is forgiven. Blago's corruption is nearly bottomless, but no Conservatives on the board are claiming that this man represents all Democrats.

However, this girl gives an unpopular answer to a powder keg issue (of which, I'm under the suspicion that the question was only asked as a political litmus test, because it has absolutely nothing to do with winning a beauty pageant), and suddenly every detail of her personal life is up for scrutiny and it's open season on her character.

Yeah, your are right. That was the point i was trying to make, i just should have said it better. Of course you CAN say that, but there are going to be consequences. What i was trying to say is that, such a consequence by saying the aformentioned statement would probably enough to make most people realize that they should not say such things...if that makes more sense.
