Most of the sales taxes I've seen in south Texas run anywhere from 7.5% to 8.25%.

Here in Maricopa County in Arizona the sales tax is 6.3%, but the county charges no sales tax on food bought in grocery stores. Individual cities are allowed to do so, but Phoenix, Surprise, and Mesa (where I live) do not charge the tax. However taxes on other things, like tobacco and alcohol, tend to run higher.

Yeah, something I forgot. I'm not sure exactly how/why this is, but there are a few times I'm buying something like a soda or bag of nuts from a gas station and don't pay any taxes on it. Guess some counties here in TX just don't have a grocery tax, not really sure.

Washington is just over 8 percent, but Oregon is none.
I live in Washington, and shop in Oregon.

Oregon makes up for no sales tax with really high property tax.
Own in Washington, Shop in Oregon, I win.

Not in Crook County....

Seriously, I swear they even have an Obama tax in Chicago, just a tax for being in Obamaville.

Everything is so much more expensive in the city it's ridiculous. 5 dollar footlongs at Subway are like $15, plus $5 to park your car while you eat if you are dumb enough to drive there. Then you leave and get on a toll road that is basically a giant parking lot/death-trap and they make you pay 80 cents at every toll booth that they conveniently place every 100 yards. The worst part is that they have these GIANT signs after each toll both that reads "THANK YOU FOR USING THE TOLLWAY". It's enough to make you wanna pull a Rampage Jackson.

I am glad I don't live there anymore.

That's a good rate! Here in the People's Republic of Washington, it's 8.4% and they're making noises to raise it again. No tax on groceries. But to give you an idea of how idiotic people here are, the latest initiative to put a cap on growth of state gov't revenue failed Tuesday 55%-45%. Enjoy the higher taxes, schmucks.

Our state has voted three times to keep vehicle license tabs at a flat rate - $30. Our inspired representatives have found loopholes each time to increase them again. These initiatives passed handily so to me it's the pols here saying "screw you, taxpayer, WE know what's best!".

mytle beach, SC apparently doesnt want you to know what you pay, our sales tax jumps from 8%-16% depending on what you buy

example of a break down i found for food 11.5% for food
(5% State Sales Tax + 1% State Tax Relief + 1% Horry County Road Sales Tax + 1% Local Education Capital Improvements Sales Tax + 2.5% Hospitality Fee* + 1% Tourism Development Fee = 11.5%)

Kentucky sales tax are 6%! No sales tax on Grocery unless you consider Pop a grocery item. I think we have an extra tax on Tobacco and Alcohol but I really ain't sure. I don't use Tobacco or Alcohol so I can't say for certain! I don't know how the income tax or Gas tax is!
