I would not expect Zakk to like punk music. You sure it was not heavy metal?

Why would you think that?

Metal over punk any day. I hate punk, it sounds like nose.

What does a nose sound like? Honk?

I like punk and metal. Some of the metal would be better if they wouldn't do the stupid growling and throat vocals. The musicians are talented but the singers suck.

Give me some Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys and such. I guess you had to be there when Punk was the new thing. The band X is a band that was way before its time. Ah, the days of my youth.

Zakk is the man, I have seen him perform more times than I can remember and he always delivers no matter how big or small the venue.

To me, punk was always more defined by the groups attitude than by just their sound. Sure, there are some signature things that people sonically identify with "punk rock", just like any sub-genre, but really it's all just music. I love all types of music. A very talented musician once told me, "a good song is a good song".

I agree 100%. There are genres of music I can't stand, but there is probably at least one song from those offending ones that I enjoy.

Lately I have been having fun singing and strumming along to Ten Years Gone by Zep and Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm by the Crash Test Dummies. Love the guys deep voice in that. Been playing with some Dylan, Leonard Cohen and other stuff too. Toying with some fun classical stuff too. People that play classical guitar well inspire me the most.

I need to get back to writing and recording some original stuff. Motivation has been lacking though.

Any new projects that you have been working on JB?

There's a few bands close to punk that I'd go see, and I'm sure would give those bands a run for their money:

Pig Destroyer
Agoraphobic Nosebleed
Municipal Waste
Converge
Disfear
Down to Agony

...and for the record, not all punk is crap. These bands here are living proof of that. If you think punk is crap it's probably because you haven't found the right kind of punk to listen to.

I tried listening to 3 of those on your list. Couldn't make it through any of it. Where is the harmony, melody, and actual singing? I must be getting old. So glad I grew up in the musical era that I did, when music was fun. To each his own though and if you like it, that is all that matters.

Music is always fun, why else would people be into it?
Its the definition of the word fun that changes.
