I really don't care what Pope Benedict has to say. The Pontiff is not a biblical office, and he certainly doesn't "speak for God" anymore than any other pastor or priest. I'd care more what a Junior Representative has to say about this. He could actually affect my life.

He shouldnt. He's a conservative. He's suddenly become rather liberal all of a sudden :ninja:

The "papcy" is not a Biblical Office outside of Church Tradition. But the "Pontiffical" system is Biblical, its outlined by the Apostle Paul to His friend called Titus.

"Pontiff" just means Bishop...it doesnt automatically mean "pope" "THE Pontiff" is usually used by Rome to Refer to the Pope, but they dont own the word. :ninja:

He still represents Christendom and deserves respect.

Many people do look to him and his guidance even if some people don't.

I do care and thought it was a good message.

:) He certainly represents the largest denomination of Christianity, and the Oldest Current Established Church. I think, like anyone in high office he should be respected also. I'm not a Roman Catholic, but, I still enjoy listening to what the Pope (any Pope) might have to say...its about widening the perameters of public opinion on Religion and morality for me.

You are exactlly right Dave, whatever way the Pope plays an important part in this world and he represents and fights for christianity. That is something to be respected annd reverent to even if one may disagree on certain viewpoints.

I guess to some Rome may as well be a Iman preaching the word of Islam to the masses!

There are people on this site that would claim the Roman Catholic Church is not to be acknowledged as a Denomination of Christianity. I struggle to understand it myself. Its a view ive only ever heard on this Forum

Even though I am not a practicing Catholic I am glad to hear he approves of Christianity Online. The reason being is the church is making an attempt to get with the times finally!! More power to him and its nice to have the mans blessing Catholic or not he is a man of God.

No I aggree with him, Its just out of character for Him. His background and wants are PRE Vatican Two...He should be more liekly to say dont go online because of the evil you can find, you know like the radical conservatives say dont listen to popular music becase that can spread Evil aswell.

So I was suprised to here he was encouraging it. He's far more of a peacemaker then I thought he would be also :ninja:

He's just asked the Chinese to rededicate themselves to Christ, and to himself as Successor of Saint Peter

He also pays homeage on Ascension Sunday (which happens to be today) to his name Sake Saint Benedict who was the great creator of the Monastic. When I lived at Saint Paul's Cathedral in the Lay Community we functioned under a Modifed version of The Rule of Saint Benedict. Basically it states that the monks of a foundation should be involved in Work, Worship and Academic Study. A life that revolves around those three things

Apparently Benedict met with the President of the Czeck Republic today, and he's got an invitation for late September to visit the countries capital on a pastoral tour. :)

Apparently Benedict met with the President of the Ukraine today  They dont actually get on as well as some. The Catholic Community has given a lot to the Ukrainian Society but they have outstanding issues, and Benedict has aggreed to put more effort into Eccumenical Dialogue.

What this means is, He's trampling on Russian Orthodox territory, and they have an uneasy relationship. Benedict would much rather aim his eccumencialism towards the Orthodox, then towards the Protestant Denominations LOL

Fascinating. So Pope Benedict has just installed a new Ambassidor for Iran. He has told the Iranians that he would like the Islamic Regieme to leave the catholic community alone, bassically, and they they must begin to comply with international law

This of course was said to the Ambassidor, not to the President...who the Pope really should invite for an Audience and say it to the Islamists Face  But its very unusual for Rome to say anything Political beyond simple wishes and simple reaffirmation of shared values, etc.

The last time Benedict did something like this was when he was talking to the Orthodox Church in Russia.

Benedict has also opened the way for Anglicans who want out of Canterbury to move EN MASSE to Rome, AND to keep The Protestant Book of Common Prayer, he has said he will welcome the Anglican Priests (so long as they are not women) and Anglican Bishops.

Clearly He is intigating and capitalizing on the Split in the Anglican Church between The Episcopal United States, and The African Gospel, who are so at war, the Africans have set up their own Council for Primates, and have Refused to attend The True Anglican Council of Bishops this past Year.

What looks on the face of it to be a Kind Christian Gesture and a more open Roman Catholic Church, is nothing short of pilfering, by trying to help cause the collapse of Anglicanism...we must remember despite what he says, he IS a Hyper Conservative. Its easy to forget because he speaks the Liberal Lingo quite well...but watch for when he does he has an ulteria motive...This is Rome at its Most Imperial...he does, after all want to try and overturn Vatican Two, and He was Head of the Doctrine for The Congregation of The Faith...in otherwords, the head of The Inquisition :ninja:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36kO10EiZBM

NAUGHTY!! :ninja: This has NOTHING to do with Vatican Two, and Benedict is NOT Resolute in following it!! This is to do with Bringing down the largest part of the Protestant Church!!, it even comes the week after the big AFRICAN Synod...where all the Africans have become dissillusioned by Anglicanism...and as you can see, it being announced by The Doctrine for The Congregation of The Faith...is essentially making it Catholic Tradition...that is what "the Doctrine" is all about. What is, and What is not Catholic, and Enforcing it.

:ninja:
