Was just going through the UFC events and saw that UFC 96 will have Shane Carwin facing Gabriel Gonzaga. I'm very interested in seeing this fight as Carwin is 10-0 without facing tremendous talent, but has really destroyed his opponents. It'll be interesting to see how well he will do against Zags.

Interesting matchup. I wonder if Zags, jits will neutralize Carwin's wrestling. The standup will be pretty interesting too.

I will always hold a grudge against Zaga for what he did to Crocop.
Randy will lay down the perfect gameplan to beat his @$$.
I'm going with Carwin vis 2nd rd TKO!

I think it depends on which GG shows up on fight night. 3 matches that I'm pumped up for(GG v. Carwin, lyota v. Thiago, and BJ v. GSP)..I'll be rootin for GG even though he KO'd my boy CC.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing. I'm not too excited about any of the upcoming PPV matchups except GSP/Penn, Machida/Silva, Stevenson/Sanchez, and Gonzaga/Carwin.

It's time to see if Carwin is the real deal or not. If he gets by Gonzaga, I'd say expect to see him get 2 more big matchups and if he wins, get a shot at Brock (yes, because Brock will still be the champ by that time) :tongue0011:

It's the main event for UFC 93. I love the fight, but hardly a main event for a PPV in my opinion. I think I'll wait until I find it for free on a torrent search, lol

:w00t: I want Carwin to win it!

Though I'm very weary of what Gonzaga can bring...I was in the audience when he was fighting CroCop :unsure-1:

you realy dont know much about him, great wrestler with a PB in BJJ and is learning boxing at a rapid pace. if he had the hype lesnar had comeing into the ufc he would be champ right now but he doesnt and will have to work his way up. please dont throw random unthought out posts

You're absolutely right that he is a great wrestler and a PB in BJJ. But he has also not fought anyone the caliber of Gonzaga. He also has not gone longer than a little over 2:00 in a fight, so we have seen nothing about is conditioning. I wish the best for him and I think this fight will answer a lot of questions about how good Carwin is.

Iam just saying that he has the same potential (or more) than lesnar when he came to the ufc green and untested

Agreed. And Lesnar had to answer the same questions...I'm hoping Carwin can do the same.

Just did a little more research on Carwin's record. In 10 fights, he's only fought a total of 11 minutes and 13 seconds, or an average of 1 minute 7.3 seconds per fight. Although he hasn't really been tested by an upper echelon fighter, it's quite impressive!

Rumor has it the winner of this fight will be the #1 contender for the title. I'd say winner fights Kongo, then that winner is the #1 contender (who will get their ass kicked by Brock ).

Shane has good hands and good wrestling. We'll see if he has a good chin.

I'm honestly undecided, but I'll go with Gonzaga on this one for a sig bet.

He is nowhere near the caliber wrestler lesnar is and nowhere near as athletic. The combined recoed of peoples hes face is under 500. He is a can opener until proven otherwise

Also his striking isn that good, he was getting tagged by neil wain in his last fight which forced him to take it it to the ground. Wain is hardly an elite striker

It is a completely different level of competition. How many D2 wrestlers are asked to join the U.S. Olympic team? I'm sure that answer is zero.

Just watched the rerun of the weigh-ins last night. Carwin weighed in at 259.5. They have him billed at 265. Guess he is smaller than Brock, except maybe his glove size. Big ass dude though. I'm pumped for this fight!

yes, i had no faith in him, he took two big shots and Ko'd Napao with a short shot ... dude has some power

Brute force and good crisp shot. The shot that took Gab down couldn't have been more than a 12" throw.

In a match up between Lesnar and Carwin, I would give the edge to Carwin. The only thing I was curious about Carwin was his chin......well he answered that tonight. He took 2 great shots from Gonzaga and came back to hang and bang.

He definitely has a better chin than Lesnar and he isnt afraid to eat a few in order to give a few.....where as I think Lesnar is.

Lesnar is still a better wrestler than Carwin and Gonzaga, faster, and probably stronger. IMO, Lesnar should put Carwin on his back and go for the G&P. Carwin's a better boxer for sure, it'd be a bad move for Lesnar to stand a bang with Carwin.

I'm definitely interested in seeing this happen.

Who knows what Lesnar will look like, he's constantly improving. I think Carwwin should take it!.

Corwin does have good bjj mabe just mabe it would be good enough if he is taken down to stall to get it standing just like how wandy used his BB in pride
