From Matt's blog:

Well, sorry for the late blog, but as you all know I've been busy. I know most of you are wanting to know how my training is going, but to be honest I really don't want to say much about it. After the fight, I'll talk more about the training, but all I can say now is that it's going very well. With all of my training, I don't have a whole lot to say so I thought I'd bring some things up from the past. Here's a few things that maybe some of you have never seen before:
XYIENCE "Country Breakfast" (2006)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uOAkAKAvw0

That commercial even gave Nate the idea of me having my own breakfast cereal and here is the concept illustration that he made for that:
http://www.matt-hughes.com/images/blogimages/06MAY09/countrybreakfastcereal.jpg

There were also these commercials I did for XYIENCE:
XYIENCE "Cross-Sporting" (2006)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8YGgUpXULQ
XYIENCE UFN Promo (2006)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUvNMxsXNMA

When I'm travelling I always have my laptop with me and I've got tons of pictures on there and here are a few pictures that I look at frequently:

This is from the day Hanna was born:
http://www.matt-hughes.com/images/blogimages/06MAY09/joeymatthanna.jpg

Joey's first day at the big school (kindergarten):
http://www.matt-hughes.com/images/blogimages/06MAY09/joeyschool.jpg

Some pictures of Hanna:

http://www.matt-hughes.com/images/blogimages/06MAY09/hannacup.jpg

with Bobo (her grandfather)

http://www.matt-hughes.com/images/blogimages/06MAY09/hannacloseup.jpg
This is one of my favorite pictures of Hanna

Joey, Hanna and Brandon in the big bed. (When Hanna wants to sleep with us, she always says "I want to sleep in the big bed"):
http://www.matt-hughes.com/images/blogimages/06MAY09/joeyhannabrandon.jpg

Audra and some of her friends at one of my fights (I can't remember which one):
http://www.matt-hughes.com/images/blogimages/06MAY09/audra.jpg

Me and Matt Pena:
http://www.matt-hughes.com/images/blogimages/06MAY09/mattpena.jpg

Finally, I just like the message that this picture sends:

Until next week... -matt

Anyone got a link to the interview where Matt talks about reprimanding Joey for kicking with his toe instead of his shin?

I met Matt for the first time right after the country breakfast commercial came out. Nathan had sent me to meet him at a Dave & Busters in Orange County,Ca where he was going to do a sports radio interview.
Matt was telling me about some friends or a friend that owned a motorcycle shop ( or something like that. It's been so long) anyway, he said either the friend that owned the place, or friends that owned the place were making fun of him for the waving out the limo part.He was wearing the tshirt of that motorcycle shop that very day so he asked me to take some pictures of him outside the limo that took him from the hotel to Dave & Busters ( he was in town at the time for Tim's fight UFC 59) to kinda joke about the whole thing. I still have the pictures.

It was put up on the UFC website pretty much a couple of hours before if that long. You told me about it before it even went up. It was the first time UFC came to California and they had fighters everywhere for meet and greets.
I went up to him outside as he pulled up right before me, then there was one girl that came to meet him but the radio thing was in like a back room and no one was in there but the radio people ( two of them and they were live as we walked in) then towards the end a handful of people came in and when Matt was finished I took pictures of them with Matt for them.
So, I guess it was a meet and greet, just a badly planned last minute one. I'll never forget it as it was also my first UFC event.Tim won and Forrest almost did. I couldnt talk for two days from all the screaming I did

I totally forgot about that one, it's actually uploaded onto the site:

It came in two versions, one advertising the Ultimate Fight Night event and the other advertising TUF3; but the footage with Matt is the same on both commercials.

Hummm the first time I saw Matt fight live was at UFC 52. Never been a big sports guy .. and NEVER got excited at any event. I use to go to stuff like that for the social aspect. I took a liking to MMA though. I came to UFC 52 to watch Randy beat chuck .... :ninja:  When Matt fought Trigg I saw him get balled and the ref did nothing. I was ... furious. After that they were ground fighting against the fence and Matt emerges with Trigg on his should ... walks him over to the other side of the ring and BAM!!!! Slams him. I lost time .. spilled my beer ... and peed a little. Epic ....

The first time I met Matt I drove to an event in Louisville KY. He ended up reffing for the event because the ref didn't show. I got these VIP tickets to met Matt and get a picture with him. The meet and greet lasted about 10 mins and he didnt get to everyone .. so I ate a bunch of hot dogs from a buffet that had been left out from earlier. During one of the other fight inter-missions, I waited in line to get a shot with him .. after 25 or so mins it was my turn. I handed the camera to the girl behind me in line .. tossed my arm around him and she lifted the camera up .. "took a shot" and I shook matts hand said I was a fan and went and sat down. To my dismay ... when I got back to my seat .... no picture. The line was still long for Matt and the fights were about to start up again. I just left. On the way driving home i was going through West Virginia with my windows rolled down and going 70 miles an hour I got hit in the face with whitewash ... almost drove off the mountain.

But .. as time progressed, and many fights and events later ... I got my picture.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m123/boomermatt75/mattmarkboom.jpgMy first live UFC (68 in Columbus) was a ton of fun. I got to meet NateR & Preach and I hung out with them a lot. I missed meeting Matt by about 10min, though, because apparently the time for the Meet & Greet got changed.

It's all good, 'cause I got to meet Matt eaerlier this year at the event in Fairfax, and that was fantastic. He was swamped with fans, so it wasn't like I could sit & chill with him, but I did get to hang around near him with TexasRN & Jeff Crow after my pic. My favorite part of the whole encounter was that he saw Texas & Jeff first and said hi, then looked over their shoulders, looked up to my face & said, "O hey, you must be Ben!"

I peed a little...

Poor Sarah! Matt didn't even want to say the details on his training. If Sarah knew he was knocking out or submitting all the short stocky guys he would throw his back out again! I can't wait to hear all the excuses Sarah is going to have. I already see his attitude has changed from I'm going to retire him to I want to retire him but I know he is a dangerous fighter and it will be a good fight.

Can we say backpeddle backpeddle???

I am hoping Matt walks out with that look in his eye like someone is going to get a beat down. And then pacing back and forth as he gives a stare down (Sarah won't see it he'll be looking at his corner or the mat). Then :punch: :punch: :punch: :punch: :happydancing: :happydancing:
Then Sarah:cry:

Then me and my kids :happydancing: :happydancing: as my husband shakes his head like I'm

Matt,

I always appreciate how you apalogize to us fans for being late on your blog. I do have to admit that I check it 20 times a day until you update it but the fact that you care amazes me. Every interview Serra is in always says he can't stand how you treat people, he is so far off. Frank Trigg had some stupid things to say but I think Serra tops him. Ground and pound!! Keep training and enjoy yourself in the octagon!
I seen an interview with you that you said you wanted to fight in Illinois before you retire if they make it legal in the state. Does anyone know if this is going to happen? God Bless. John
