Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos missed her target at the weigh-ins for Strikeforce: “Shamrock vs. Diaz” on Friday in San Jose.

Santos was scheduled to face Japanese submission specialist Hitomi Akano at 145lbs, but weighed in seven pounds over at 152lbs. Akano weighed in under the limit at 143.5lbs.

According to California State Athletic Commission officials, Santos has until 8 p.m. P.S.T. to cut 2.5lbs., which would put her within 6lbs. of her opponent, the maximum weight overage the state allows for bouts to take place.

“She shouldn’t have a problem cutting that by tonight,” a representative of Santos’ camp told MMAWeekly.com shortly afterwards.

The remaining main card weigh-ins for the Saturday event at the HP Pavilion went off without a hitch.

-Frank Shamrock (180) vs. Nick Diaz (180)

-Gilbert Melendez (154) vs. Rodrigo Damm (154.5)

-Cristiane Santos (152) vs. Hitomi Akano (143.5)*

-Brett Rogers (262.5) vs. Ron Humphrey (239.5)

Untelevised Card:

so its just as bad to be 7 pounds over as 1.7 so could an natural 185 pounder fight 170 and come in 20 or so pounds over and take the 20% fine and win due to being bigger and stronger?

She did it three times though, or was is twice in a row?

I don't know. The Gina situation was different.
For one, they kept creating new weight classes designed for her to make weight,
and she still had trouble, even with them adding 10lbs or shifting things around.

Not saying Cyborg is off the hook, but Gina was way worse,
anyhow, Cyborg sucks, she has known about this fight for how long?
Lame lame.
Props to the asian chick for taking the fight anyway

I bash fighters who don't make it multiple times - Gina, Alves (once, but he used diuretics to cheat on a different occasion).

I'll bash Cyborg if she does it again. Hope she loses for not doing her job. But, when she fights Gina, hope she kicks her ass.

Yeah but Cyborg is allowed to try again, Gina was not allowed to for one of the most recent incidents.

Yeah but Cyborg is allowed to try again, Gina was not allowed to for one of the most recent incidents.

That certainly isn't Cyborgs fault.

She blamed it on "girl problems"

This is exactly why I don't like Women's MMA

They say that Cyborg probably entered the cage at around 160 pounds vs the 143 pound opponent who usually fights 1 or 2 weight classes lower.

That fight was brutal. I'm surprised the Japanese chick lasted as long as she did. It was nothing short of an assault.
