UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his car in West Los Angeles in the early morning hours Monday.

Local outlet KTLA first reported the news, citing a press release issued by the California Highway Patrol, which was subsequently confirmed by MMAFighting.com.

Ortiz's vehicle, a 2012 Porsche Panamera, collided with a concrete center median while driving northbound on the I-405 freeway "near Sepulveda and Santa Monica boulevards," according to the release. Although the vehicle suffered minor damages, neither Ortiz nor the two passengers inside the vehicle sustained any injuries.

Ortiz was taken into custody on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI by California Highway Patrol officers around 4:00 a.m. Monday morning. Ortiz was subsequently transported to the LAPD-77th Division and booked on $15,000 bail until his release at approximately 8:13 a.m. Monday.

Ortiz, 38, last competed July 7, 2012, losing a unanimous decision to Forrest Griffin at UFC 148. Ortiz went on to briefly retire from mixed martial arts before attempting a comeback headlining Bellator MMA's ill-fated pay-per-view against fellow UFC veteran Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, however a last-second neck injury forced Ortiz to withdraw from the bout.

Ortiz is scheduled to appear in court on January 27.

Seriously? $15,000 bail.

Is that the normal bail for DUI?

I got this from www.BayAreaDefenseGuide.com (http://www.BayAreaDefenseGuide.com:):
California DUI arrestees are sometimes required to post bail even for misdemeanor DUI arrests. A judge is more likely to require that the accused post bail if he or she refused to submit to chemical testing (http://www.bayareaduidefense.com/bay_area_dui/refusal/), was involved in a accident causing injury, or had a blood alcohol content (BAC) (http://www.bayareaduidefense.com/bay_area_dui/bac_calculator.html) measured as .10 or greater.

...

Bail for felony driving under the influence arrests is typically set at $25,000 or more.So it sounds like he got off easy.

doesn't bail also take into account how much you can actually pay ... i didn't think it should, but it always seemed that way.

It doesn't usually have that with the misdemeanor charges.
