This weekend coming up will be UFC 87 up in Minnesota. Going up there with some friends, I plan on having a good time. I like the fact that I can stay in the Midwest and drive up there. My predictions for the fights are GSP and Lesnar to win. I think they both have a great chance of winning and I think they can go in there and win as easily as they’d like to. But as everyone knows, this is fighting and anything can happen, so there’s always a chance that Fitch or Herring could get their hand raised.
Had some guys from Nashville, Tennessee come up and train with me last week. This group of seven guys work out with each other every day, they keep each other accountable and know that if they skip a practice they aren’t just letting themselves down, they are letting someone else down. So, they decided to come up and let me run them through a two and a half hour workout.

The whole trip was actually a birthday present for one of the guys, Bill, and we’re going to show a video that I sent down to Bill as a birthday surprise, to let him know what to expect when he came down here. You’ll also see his reaction to the video when they played it for him at his local movie theater:
In a couple of days, I will be showing a demonstrational video of how to choke somebody out, so tune back in around Wednesday and you can see another blog entry. -matt

Thanks for posting this Matt. The training was absolutley incredible and we all had the time of our lives. Once we were all able to walk again most of us were figuring out how we could get back up there. The gym is absolutely first class and that includes everyone that worked there and that we met while there. Thanks again for all you did to make it a great birthday for me.

Matt, just watched you beat BJ Penn today on UFC unleashed… I had 2 questions, I live in kansas, and was going to be in the st louis area for a few days before school starts(I teach PE here in Ks) and I was wondering do you personally teach classes at your gym? I would love to go through a workout, I also coach wrestling, and would love to see how a country boy survives…ha, okay second question, when you told Dana I told you so, was it that you told Dana you would beat BJ, or that you knew he would gas? Thanks man…. we would love to see you fight Serra, and maybe even a few more….

When you guys travel, do you guys take the weekend off from working out? If you’re staying downtown Minneapolis and are looking for a weight-lifting workout and your hotel doesn’t have a gym, check out my buddy Rob’s gym [1]. If you have a specific day/time, you could either just show up or I could let you in.
What other sort of stuff are you interested in (food, entertainment, etc) or is your weekend pretty much planned out?
Here is a local site that shows a list of what is going on that weekend. [2]
They also have restaurant recommendations [3] although you could just walk around downtown Minneapolis and find a place on your own.
I’ll be watching the fights across the street from the Target Center at “Sneaky Petes” or maybe from home (Sneaky Petes doesn’t turn the volume on, which is unfortunate).

Your predictions were right. However, I think the Lesnar/Herring fight was disgusting. Lesnar is freakishly huge and the way he charged Herring with his head right after he floored him with that first punch - the UFC is NOT the WWE and Lesnar didn’t “beat” Herring, in my opinion, he laid on Herring and hit him a few times. How does one defend themselves when their opponent outweighs them by so much? I was upset that Roger lost but he jinxed himself by saying he’d never lose a fight.
