Martial Arts Expo 08

   July 22nd, 2008

I had a couple more things for the blog this week, but I wanted yesterday to be all about Hanna. The first is a flyer for the upcoming Martial Arts Expo:
Martial Arts Expo 08

The second item is an email I received that I really liked:

Birth Certificate shows that we were born

A Death Certificate shows that we died

Pictures show that we lived!

Have a seat . . . Relax . . . And read this slowly.

I Believe…That just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. And just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do love each other.

I Believe…That we don’t have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I Believe…That no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I Believe…That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

I Believe… That you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

I Believe…That you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I Believe… That you can keep going long after you think you can’t.

I Believe…That we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I Believe…That either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I Believe…That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I Believe…That money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I Believe…That my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

I Believe…That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you’re down, will be the ones to help you get back up.

I Believe…That sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel.

I Believe…That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you’ve had and what you’ve learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you’ve celebrated.

I Believe…That it isn’t always enough, to be forgiven by others. Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I Believe…That no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn’t stop for your grief.

I Believe…That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I Believe…That you shouldn’t be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life Forever.

I Believe…Two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I Believe…That your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don’t even know you.

I Believe…That even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you - you will find the strength to help.

I Believe…That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

‘The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything.’

Thanks for sharing that email. I haven’t checked your site in a while. I’ve been a huge fan ever since you kicked BJ’s ass. haha I still love that fight. You always have something interesting on your blog. I think that even after you retire from the sport (hopefully NOT soon) we will all still be interested in what’s going on in your life.

Hey Matt, just wanted to say “thanks” also for the inspirational emails you share. I’m a new fan (past few months). Just a little background: I happened to catch TUF 7 a few months ago and decided to go back and rent all the TUFs. I wanted to see the coaches’ fight from TUF 1 (Randy & Chuck) which was on UFC 52. I stayed up trying to get through the whole DVD so I was up through the wee hours until my husband woke up at 5 a.m. So I’m watching it and here’s this guy, Matt Hughes, being choked out (or so it seems) by Trigg and all of a sudden he’s out of the choke, has picked Trigg up and is running across the cage and slamming him down. I was like, “wha… wait a minute…what just happened?” Everything happened so fast I had to rewind it to catch when you turned out of the choke and somehow lifted Trigg up. And then I rewound it several more times just to watch you carry him and slam him down. It was AMAZING!!! My heart was pumping just watching it on video so I can only imagine how pumped up you were. So my husband wakes up (5 a.m.) and I’m like, “you’ve got to come see this guy”.

Up to this point, I had only seen TUF 1 and UFC 52 and planned on renting the other UFCs. But after I saw you, I told my husband, “okay, forget all these other UFCs for now, just get me all of the ones with this guy, Matt Hughes”. So I’ve seen UFC 45-79 so far and my favorites of those have been your two “Trigg” fights. Both of those were AMAZING! I’d love to see your two Carlos Newton fights especially when you first won the belt but unforturnately I haven’t been able to find any that go back that far.

I bought your book a couple of months ago and have enjoyed it very much especially your stories about you and your twin, Mark. I’m a twin also. I was laughing so hard when reading some of the stuff y’all got into and had to call my twin sister and share it with her. I had her laughing (long-distance). Anyway, Matt, I just wanted to let you know that you have One More Fan and that:

“I Believe”…that a total stranger can make you stop and look at your life and INSPIRE you to become so much more than you ever thought you could be.

God Bless!

Matt,
I have been a long time fan of yours. Our backgrounds have alot of similarities, and I was just wondering if you would be signing autographs at the dallas expo? I live in Austin and have always wanted to meet you.

Mark.
