Knee Injury

I found out my results, I’ve got a totally torn MCL that is still attached to my femur. I’ve got a partially torn PCL. They really think that the PCL will repair itself and that MCL has a chance of repairing itself. So we’re going to hold off on surgery right now. I am going to get a second opinion this week, so that might change; but for now we’re going to hold off on surgery. Got more news to come this week, so there will be another blog entry the middle of the week. -matt |

“totally torn MCL”…This will not heal without surgery. I tore my MCL (Doc had to “clean it up”), PCL (Healed on its own) and meniscus (Doc stitched the tear.)
While playing football…Get the surgery ASAP and get it over with…You’ll be glad you did! Get well, and get back to MFS. You need a real fight camp not just a gym with your name on it.

hey i say this and thought of you since Philipians 4:13 is one of your favorite verses. i hope it works i think you will enjoy the video. also all your fans will enjoy. Take care and hill up
A son asked his father, ‘Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?’ The father who, despite having a heart condition, says ‘Yes’. They went on to complete the marathon together.
Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying ‘Yes’ to his son’s request of going through the race together.
One day, the son asked his father, ‘Dad, let’s join the Ironman together.’ To which, his father said ‘Yes’ to.
For those who didn’t know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island . Father and son went on to complete the race together.

Knee injuries are tough, but look who I am writing to, a warrior. I had knee surgery when I was in the eighth grade, over 14 years ago and it’s holding up great. I can only imagine how the technology has increased and how they could have you feeling great in no time, that is if it comes to surgery. However as your knee repairs itself it reminds me of the intricate detail God went into creating the human body. How could anyone think that this was an accident created by the big boom is beyond me. Praying for your quick recovery.
On a side note I heard that your trip to Parkview Christian Church was rewarding for those in attendance. Despite having bought tickets I was unable to make it to hear your testimony perhaps another time though. I usually make it to all your appearances when they are up north.
your brother in Christ Keith

Hey Matt,
Getting a second opinion is “always” the smart thing to do, but don’t hesitate to get a “third” opinion if you’re still uncertain or even if only to confirm what one or both of the previous doctors have said/recommended especially if they’re talking surgery.
A year ago I had to have brain surgery to fix a CSF leak (two previous attempts of less invasive surgery failed) so they were going to cut my head open to fix it. I researched (internet) everything I could find on CSF leaks and how they could be resolved hoping there was some way short of them breaking out the “chainsaw”. If you’re lucky they’ll close on their own, if not, bzzzz! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.) Anyway, I saw three neurosurgeons before deciding on the ONE.
Hopefully, in your case, you won’t need surgery, just time for your body to heal. I’ll keep you in my prayers. God Bless!

i suggest finding the best doctor you can and getting those fixed. then rest for a while. and if you do end up fighting serra you should definately go back to iowa and train with Miletich

get surgery …. you see it all the time that people hold off on surgery and then they end up getting when the healing process doesn’t go as expected …. just don’t go and play 91 holes of golf on it like tiger woods and you will be okay … you’ll be just fine matt …

I just wanted to wish you the best!!

Serious stuff. I’m sure you’ll have the best recovery possible. I have a complete tear in my shoulder and they say it’s ultimately a time issue no matter what you decide. You do have the greatest motivators…the highest being Jesus and the other… beating Sera!!! I’ll give you one of my healthy MCL’s or PCL’s for transplant just to see that arrogant %*&#?> down and out at your feet. Many prayers and best of luck in your recovery!!!

Hey Matt, I just wanted to wish you all the best in your recovery. I’ve torn my ACL in both my knees at different times and I’ve had to have surgery to repair this ligament both times and im only 22. I know a bit about knee anatomy because of my own knee problems and I know that the MCL and PCL are ligaments that do have to capability to repair themselves. I hope that you do not have to go under the knife but if you do speaking from experience you can totally come back and be just as good as new. Once again I wish you all the best and hope for a speedy recovery.

Hey Bro
God Bless you
Your fight with Thiago was good, you had him on the ground, he’s just strong as a bull
Anyway, I met you in Vegas, in the entrance of the LAX Disco. It’s nice to see famous people, despite their fame, humble like you, my brother in the faith of Jesus
Today I went to see Delirious?, incredible christian band.
They singed “History Maker”
Well you man are a history maker, you and Wanderlei Silva, made me realize just how great the UFC is, for allowing it’s competitors to show their faith to millions, using UFC as a window to reach millions with the gospel of Jesus Christ
So, good luck with your knee bro, I hope you can defeat Matt Serra
June 27th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Sorry about the knee Matt. Get better soon. I hope to see you slam the door shut on Matt Serra’s lips like you did on Royce. Don’t get me wrong, Royce and Renzo(Serra’s mentor) are nice guys in person one on one, but the family art being the best stuff is just irritating. Yeah, their good and all but that junk about him building this house ( UFC ) is just wrong. There is a great instructor out there that put all the Brazilians down one by one before the UFC came to be and they never would admit to it. He, being so humble, just walked away into the sun set quietly. The world will never know but I do! It is pure justice to see them lose now as everyone has caught up on the ground game. It was comical to read Royce calling you a dirty fighter after he lost when he comes from a place of no rules…One of the greatest things I like about you is whenever(the few times you did lose), you made no excuses! On any given day anyone can win or lose but how they handle it is the true test. Stay humble brother because you are a champ!

matt,
sorry to hear about the knee - i tore my PCL and miniscus as a result of a fairly bad motorcycle accident where i hyperextended my knee so badly that it crushed my tibia and broke my fibula (see pictures at christian sportbike racing - http://www.csbracing.com/ridergallery.cgi?dd)
anyway, all that to say that the healing process was slow but God is faithful. whether or not you opt for surgery, keep Jesus as your focus and remember that He is your healer.
June 29th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Hopefully everything will turn out good for you, but surgery will probably need to be done. Anyways, whatever has to be done hopefully you can still fight Matt Serra and shut his mouth. You should talk to Dana and tell him to have a event here in St Louis because it seems like alot of the other fighters are getting hometown fights. If anyone deserves a chance to fight near their hometown its you. Hopefully you can get back in the ring but if not thank you for entertaining us all these years and good luck with the gym. I have seen it and it is a real fighters gym. There will eventually be champions to come out of your gym.

Sorry about the knee matt. I hope you come back and fight like the matt huges with that hungry look in your eyes we both know you did not have that edge in your last 2 fights. This is not the way to go out you are the most domainant champ in ufc history. Prove everyone wrong by beating serra then fight thiago and beat him then go after gsp one more time thats what heros do matt and that is what you stand for.
