The first round of Robbie’s fight went like we thought it would. Matt Pena had come up with a good plan on his feet, which was stay away from Scott’s right hand and with Robbie being so elusive and hard to hit we just thought that Robbie was going to get the better of him in the stand up war. At the end of the first round, I felt Robbie had Scott hurt enough to try and end the fight. I was yelling at Robbie to finish it. Robbie felt it wasn’t the time. When I heard Scott’s interviews he was talking about leaving his kids for two months to train for this fight, so I didn’t want to get into a war in the fourth and fifth round. Second round, Robbie slowed down and Scott capitalized a little bit, threw some good elbows, but I still believe Robbie won the round. Third round I think Robbie was winning more convincingly than the second. I know Scott had a hurt leg from throwing kicks and Scott started to look very frustrated. I think Scott’s aches and pains and frustrations had maybe a little to do with the stoppage. That’s just my opinion. Congrats to Robbie, he retains the belt and got his win money also. I didn’t know what to think of the Kimbo Slice fight, didn’t know much about Kimbo nor did I know much about his opponent. I do know that Kimbo doesn’t have much training so I didn’t know how much of a factor that would play. But I don’t know how fair the ref was in the fight. Looks like Kimbo could have tapped out with the guillotine attempt and I don’t know how Thompson got stood up when he was cross sides throwing elbows. It looks to me like there was maybe a little bit of favoritism, but Kimbo is a heck of a nice guy. Had a couple of forum members at the fights, Boomer and Dawn. Didn’t get to talk with them much, I was a little busy, but Robbie and I thank them for the support in heading out there, hope they liked it. Jens fought last night against Uriah Faber. I knew Jens was going through a lot back up in Iowa and from what I can tell Jens just never got started in the fight. Uriah was just able to pull the trigger before Jens did. Jens fought an exciting fight like he always does and hopefully Jens can take this loss, learn from it and become a better fighter. Today’s Monday, I think my flight’s around 6:30 PM, I’m just doing some catch up, running some errands, packing my bags and then I’ll be heading out. Thanks for all the support, probably the next blog will be when I get back next week, but Nate’s working on a video to put up on the site this week. -matt |

Hey Matt,
I’ve been a forum member for a relatively short time and I just met Boomer and Dawn (in person) at the fights along with CrisCo. They told me I just missed you guys during warmups in the cage. Let me just say that we couldn’t have been prouder of the work Robbie did inside and out of the ring. His standup looked awesome and I thought he controlled the whole fight. There were times when I think the old Robbie might have gotten a little careless and it was nice to see the control he had. What a true champion. May I also add that I watched the press conference afterwards and was proud of Robbie stepping in and maintaning some bit of control when Kimbo and the other guy almost came to blows.
Boomer hooked me up with a trading card as well and it’s found a nice home on my shelf. If I don’t catch you at the next event I’ll be sure to stop by the gym next time i’m in Indy visiting in-laws (not too far of a drive)
Best to you next weekend and thanks for continuing to instill good sportsmanship and hard work in your team. Justin was a warrior as well. hope his arm is okay.
Safe travels!

Robbie did a great job, I think the ref did favour Kimbo, and jens did an awsome fight. I was rooting for Uriah though because hes from sactown, but it was still an awsome fight from both fighters.
Videos are cool.

First, may God bless you and keep you safe. Second, I will not wish you luck, not a believer in that, however implement your will and game plan and I know you will be successful.
Robbie did great I hated to see it stopped. His body kicks really seemed to be affecting Scott. Robbie’s footwork looked amazing. Pena really had him sharp. I can understand Robbie’s hesitation about going in for the kill. Scott was almost out in the Pete Sell fight and then he came out with a flurry for a KO win. Also he stated that it would be the plan to try to lure Robbie in. I felt Robbie was going to get the KO in the third and he still looked fresh. I wasn’t that happy with the ring side doctor. She really seemed to stop anything she could, I am not sure why they wouldn’t give him the full five minutes before calling the fight.
Kimbo, I can help but not respect him. I understand the dismay that some MMA veterans could have towards him. He is unproven and is making bank, to no fault of his own. I just wish he wouldn’t represent a sport he is not proven in. Surly working with Rutten is helping but you saw all the flaws in his game. In my opinion he has only beat other brawlers that are way past there prime and Thompson (2-7 in his last nine) who is undoubtably known for his glass jaw which held up better than I expected. Kimbo gets printed on the cover of ESPN magazine and then says in the article, “I dream of tearing another man’s arm off and betting him with it.” Not the way to pick up fans of a sport that has worked so hard to not be banned like it was.
Enough of that, just looking forward to watching my favorite fighter implement his will this Saturday.
