GSP’s Win

   April 21st, 2008

Well both fights went like I thought they would. Rich was in much better shape and his striking and takedown defense made him the victor. Glad my buddy was able to pull out a victory.

GSP had a good game plan to take Matt Serra down and wear him out. I found myself rooting for Serra at the end of the second round, I wanted him to make it to the third round. I thought if it would get to the third round GSP would decide to stand up with him and possibly knock him out. I just wanted Matt to get beat on for five rounds, not just two; but I knew the ref was about ready to stop it. The UFC said that if Serra loses I get him, but I don’t know when that will be. I’m going to guess six to eight months, so I’ve found myself watching my diet and exercising more.

Had a bit of excitement here on Friday morning, I got woke up at around 4:37 AM to an earthquake. I was quite confused. I ran out of the bedroom, checked on the kids, they were still sleeping, then went to the front of the house and looked around. The flag we have in the front yard showed there was no wind, and I thought if it was an earthquake some of the neighbor’s lights would come on. After five minutes of looking around, I went back to bed seeing no other lights. When I got to bed, I heard birds chirping and then thought that it probably was an earthquake after all, as birds usually don’t chirp at 4:44 AM. First time I’ve ever been in an earthquake, kind of exciting.

We’re going to post a video here tomorrow of me teaching the intro class at the gym, so stay tuned for that. -matt

Hmmm…6-8 months, huh? My birthday’s in November–I’ll have to let my husband know that tickets to see Matt Hughes clean Matt Serra’s clock are at the very tip top of my wish list!!!

Is fighting Matt Serra really in your best interest? Is it in the best interest of the sport? You deserve a better quality opponent, someone who is in the top five in your class. I respect Matt Serra for being a fighter, I do not respect him for being in the same level of fighter as you are. This would be a step down, in my opinion, this would be a disappointment, I would rather see you fight Josh K, Diego, Karo, Marcus Davis, BJ, Jon Fitch, or step up in weight to find Silva. If you really decide this is what you want to do, is there anyone that can beat you? It must be tough to maintain such a high level and desire after you have beaten Royce Gracie, BJ Penn, Frank Trigg, Joe Riggs and GSP, what else is there to do other than dedicate yourself to being the most dominant fighter on the planet. I would love to see the Matt Hughes we all know. Best of Luck,

MH

I personally thought the fight was awesome. Matt Serra never had a chance. Total domination by GSP! I loved every second of it! The best part of the whole thing was Serra’s facial expression when the ref finally stopped it. I can’t wait to see you do the same thing to him, if not worse!!!

jhking33 Says:

Matt, I(We) can’t wait to see you in the ring, at this point I don’t care if you fight Butterbean I just want to see you fight again. We felt the earthquake here in Southern Indiana also, pretty wild. You could be the one to retire Matt Serra, train harder than ever. God Bless!

Pulvaris Says:

I think Serra is gonna try avoid you. He didnt mention you when they asked who he might be fighting next. I two was dissapointed at the way the fight was stopped, and I wanted to see GSP stand aswell, standing he needs boundaries, but it appears he doesnt need to start standing, if that makes sense. I still think the moment GSP decided to stand for a long length of time, Serra would have had a window of opportunity. I think Serra sabotaged himself at the end of the second, exactly to STOP what you thought might happen in the third, from happening.

I know this sounds awful, but I hope when you fight him, you make him pay a little more then GSP did hahahahaha. After all he has said and done. I look forward to receiving the official announcement

PaleWriter Says:

It’s not about who’s the best opponent…it’s about PPV buyrate. Sure, I’ll watch Hughes fight Koscheck or Sanchez, but I’d PAY to see him fight Serra.

bamagrits84 Says:

I’m not a big GSP fan and I have no idea why but I was kind of hoping to see him get a butt kickin’ this time. Honestly I could vomit over seeing him with that belt on; actually I could vomit over seeing anyone but you with it on. Anyways, on what someone else said about being willing to pay to watch you fight Serra, we’ll as a dedicated fan, I’d pay to see you fight anyone. So I hope the UFC hurries up and gets a fight planned for you soon and I’ll gladly fork up the $40 to watch it.

Oh and we felt the quake in Alabama too.

DrThunder Says:

AWESOME! Can’t WAIT for you to finally shut Serra’s mouth, go get ‘im Matt!

PrincessofPain Says:

I completely agree with the second comment down. You are a way better fighter than Serra, so we all know who will win that fight. However, it would be so awesome to shut Serra up as well…hah…

Chuck Says:

I think Joey fighting Matt Sarah would be a little more fair don’t you?? Either way I look forward to it… remember…. your wife wants blood!!! Make him pay brother.

CINDY213 Says:

I was really hoping you would get the chance to fight Serra. I was kinda hoping that he would beat GSP. Then you could fight Serra, win, and have YOUR belt back. :) But hey..be happy with what you get I guess. I just want to see the expression on his face when he loses!

eric rick Says:

some good fights sat. night i’m glad GSP won , it gives you a chance to get at Serra. I’m suprised that you don’t remember the quake we had in’87, I was living in Pekin then. I missed you in Pekin, I seen a flier at a gas station the day after. I won’t miss ya next time.

God Bless

Mark K Says:

Really hope you get a chance to kick Serra’s ass!

adam4999 Says:

Gotta say I was pumped to see GSP pick Serra apart though. I could have went for more rounds of it but not gonna complain. Now I get to see you do it as well. Maybe he will drop back to 155 and get beat on by BJ and Sherk for a bit after that. As for the earthquake…. I slept right through that man. Did you feel the one we had about a week later?
