First off, I went to a show saturday night. We had two guys from the HIT Squad fight: Jacob Hey and C.J. Fernandes. Both won in the first round. The crowd was great, very polite. The fights were in Pekin, which is in IL, and I saw some Team Hughes gear walk in and a few One More Round shirts. There are some pictures from the two fights on the HIT Squad website: thehitsquad.com
Got a friend over Iraq who is a civilian working for government, he goes by Boomer on the Forums. I’ve asked him to come up with one his famous “Boomer Tales.” In it he talks a little bit about what he’s been up to over there and a little bit about the upcoming GSP/Serra fight.
HAIL HAIL Matt Hughes fans!! This is Boomer com’n at yea live from Baghdad! I CAN’T BELIEVE I am all the way across the globe and missing all the HIT Squad action in the MMA world for the month of April. I missed Tommy at the Ultimate Fight Night (I would have been in the crowd), AND I miss’d 2 more of Matt’s modern day gladiators take the field of battle in Illinois. (Again, I would have been in the crowd) My God my God … why .. why has thou forsaken me?? I mean COME ON!!! Hehe, well I can’t be too angry at my job though, it is what funds my treks across the country to support Matt and his warrior band of brothers. I’ve had a few PMs and e-mails from folks asking what it is a civilian government employee like my self does in Iraq. Well, the duties are many and various .. but here is the basics of what I do.
The entire war effort over here falls under a military command called MNF-I or Multi-National Force-Iraq. Every country that puts forces into Iraq falls under this command and a four star General is responsible for it all. This four star General has a staff of one and two star Generals. There is a General over all Intelligence and is called the C2. Under him there is a program called DOMEX, or Document and Media Exploitation. A Colonel is in charge of the DOMEX effort and I’m his deputy .. Or #2. So it’s the four star General, the C2 General, the DOMEX COL, Boomer. Since there is a need for a static knowledge base in intelligence disciplines (or in other words a need for people who know the discipline not to be assigned somewhere else like military folks who rotate in and out of positions every few years) they create government civilian career positions around this need. SO … THAT is how Boomer the civilian government employee has a roll in Iraq!
You can read the rest of the Boomer Tale HERE and also see who he’s picking to win between St. Pierre and Serra.
Since we’re on the subject of GSP/Serra, honestly, I think GSP will win this fight very decisively. I don’t think that a submission will play a role in the fight. Obviously, Matt has power in his hands, so I don’t think Georges will make the same mistake this time of standing right in front of him. So, once again, I think Georges will be victorious. I’ve already asked the UFC that if Serra loses, I get him. -matt

Bring me back a present Boom!

we want to see you fight serra!!

I respectfully dissagree as I doubt GSPs mental edge
April 15th, 2008 at 10:06 am
Im rooting for GSP. I think he has more class than Serra. Serra runs his mouth too much. It would be great to see Hughes vs. Serra. That would be a great way to retire (which seems to be the way Matt H is heading)….when Matt gets that win……..but of course, no one wants Matt to retire..

Everything that I see indicates GSP will smash Serra this time. GSP seems like a guy who learns from his mistakes and will be mentally ready for this rematch. He has seemed to make the adjustments in his life that he needed to. Frankly, Serra has never seemed comfortable with the belt. Serra’s smack-talking revealed insecurity. Also, the back injury Serra incurred before the scheduled Hughes/Serra fight is suspect. I’ll tell you straight: I believe that Serra’s back injury was psychosomatic, at least in part. Obviously, I don’t have any concrete evidence of that; however, Serra’s smack-talking and general lack of confidence make it likely that he literally “backed out” of the fight.
I would enjoy seeing Serra get smashed and then see Hughes do the same thing to him in the next fight.

Right on, Fred. I totally agree with you!

Oh please, oh please, oh please, Matt, knock Serra out for me!

I think GSP beating Serra is a given and you crushing Serra when that time comes is also a given so let me ask you this - how do you think Rich will do against Lutter? Looking forward to Saturday night!

I couldn’t be more confident when I say that GSP is going to dismantle Serra. I’m sure it is going to be a good fight, but if Georges continues on fighting the way he has been, he will win undoubtedly. Then Matt Serra will be all yours Coach Hughes. I’m wishing Rich Franklin the best for this Saturday. I know he’ll pull through.
I’m a huge John Wayne fan and I came across this the other day, and I’d like to share it with everyone. Go on YouTube and type in DEAN MARTIN & JOHN WAYNE.
In a lot of ways, John Wayne reminds me of Matt Hughes.

One more thing, make sure that this is the video you watch on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AucxqtpCZL0 If you watch this, you will be blown away at the similarities between John Wayne and Matt Hughes. I Love it!!

[...] Matt Hughes weighed in with his thoughts on the upcoming UFC 83 main event recently on his personal website. I couldn’t help but wonder if Dana might (out of sheer loyalty if nothing else) give Matt H. the Serra fight either way. I mean, if (and it’s a big if) Serra wins we might get to see Matt H fight for the belt against Serra. I don’t think that would be bad at all. For that reason, it won’t break my heart to see Serra win. That being said, does anyone know who is next in line for a title shot? Fitch, Koschek, etc?
Hughes v Serra for the belt is a VERY marketable fight IMO.

i’m pulling for gsp but don’t count the little yankee out because he did win the first time and won fast and big.

In response to whose next in line I’m thinking Fitch considering he’s basically walked through the competition with little resistance. As for Hughes vs. Serra I could see that being even more marketable than GSP vs. Serra 2. I’d be just as excited to see Matt Hughes give Serra the beat down, it’s long over due IMO.

I used to hate Serra during the TUF4 show, I felt he came across as as show-off, but he kinda grew on me during TUF: Serra vs Hughes. Nonetheless, as a Canadian, I guess my loyalty lies to GSP. That said, the inevitable Serra vs Hughes fight is something I would love to see.

Took me forever to get logged in but had to for Boomer. Weird to call him by that name, but I will use it since it seems to be universal on this site. Sad to hear you are back in Iraq. I can’t keep up with you. My little ones keep me a bit disconnected from UFC for the momment so I will live thru you!!
April 17th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
EVEN THOW I DONT KNOW WHO BOOMER IS I WILLL LOVE TO GET TO KNOW HIM AND HOPE THAT EVERITHING GOSE GOOD IN IRAQ…AND I DO WANT SERRA TO LOOSE BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO FIGTH HIM ..IT WOULD BE THE BEST UFC FIGTH EVER ..AND IDONT WANT YOU TO RETIERD NO ONE DOES BUT IF THATS WHAT U WANT THENE GO AHEAD BUT THERE WILLBE NO ONE LIKE YOU IN THE UFC …LOVE CINDY

I don’t care for Serra and GSP!! I think that Serra is a loud mouth individual! He is very disrespectful in my opinion! As far as GSP, I think that he is little too “proud” of himself. As far as the fight between them, I hope GSP gives Serra what he deserves, a good whipping! Matt, I would love for you to whip Serra!! Matt, I have lot of respect for you and God bless you!!!!

Hughes vs. Serra in order to settle the beef from the show.
Hughes will retire him.

You all know that I am a huge Matt Hughes fan, having said that, this whole Serra/Hughes thing started with MH showing an lack of respect for Serra and Serra getting furious over that with MH.
So I can’t understand why people are all saying Serra has no repect? Loud mouth yes. Respect should have been shared by both Serra and Hughes.
I am looking forward to Matt Hughes getting up that corn boy retard strenth and smashing Matt Serras scull all over the cage. I hope the first row of spectators are given smocks because I forsee hair, teeth, eyeballs and brain matter geting splashed all over them!!
[That's actually a lie, Matt Hughes has NEVER ONCE shown disrespect toward Matt Serra in any form. I don't know where you are getting your facts from, but your first statement is 100% false. -NateR]

I want to wish Cj the best of luck for his upcoming fight with Ryan Ford…Train him hard!
April 21st, 2008 at 11:28 am
NateR,
If you recall the Tuff 4 episode when MH made fun of the Gracie loss and was kinda smug with Serra and then asked Serra to roll around on the floor (all with a smug, cavalier additude). He treated Serra like he was not worthy to be in his presence. It was great…I was lughing my butt off!
I can’t wait for MH to end Serra!

Any chance this Hughes Serra fight will be held over seas? I’d love to see the UFC put on a show in Iraq infront of our troops?
April 24th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
I think everybody agrees..you and Serra is a fight we must all see!!
May 5th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
I was glad to see GSP beat up on Serra. I truely cannot wait to see MATT open a 55 gallon drum on Matt the Big Mouth Serra. The Hughes-Serra fight will be a dream come true for me. I will be on the edge of my seat for that one!! I have great respect for Matt and everything he represents. As a American Soldier and Veteran, I also want to thank Matt for his support of the Troops, it is greatly appreciated.
“If you want respect, you have to earn respect!” Matt doesn’t owe Serra respect because he hasn’t earned it!!
