Matt,
You're one of my idols in life due to your beliefs and fighting. You never quit. This type of attitude helps me when I think of quitting or giving up. Your ways inspire me and give me the drive to continue when things get rough. I've been faced with some major hurdles this year, but kept on going. Your work ethic also gives me encouragement. You train like there's no tomorrow. I'm going to lose my eyesight soon, but I know that I can train myself like there's no tomorrow. The loss that you sufferred is just a minor set back and you can bounce back and be resiliant. Keep the faith Matt. I keep the faith in you and God. You're the best welterweight that I've seen. Good bless and happy new year to you and your family.

Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." This might seem like a bad thing, but you've got to remember Joseph. He went through a rough patch, but in the end, God was working though all of his difficulties for good. I don't honestly know, and I don't expect you to say, but to me it seems that the UFC is changing in several ways, and I don't know if they are all for the better.
Anyway... I'm not going to say, "Please don't retire." You know what is best for youself and your family, but I will say that if you choose to remain in the UFC, I don't necessarily think that you have to add all sorts of new weapons to your style, it may just be that a move up or down in weight class might do the trick. Randy Couture did it, and there is no doubt in my mind that you could as well.
Regardless, I commend you for your show of Christian class after the fight, and I wish you the best and God's blessing in the coming year.

Matt, I've felt sick to my stomach all day when I've thought of your fight. It was a tough loss and I hate to see you lose. I don't want to see you retire, but if you did, would you ever go into the ministry? I attended The Master’s Seminary and loved it (John MacArthur is president). Just a thought.

Matt,

You are the champ in the UFC!! You fought hard, it just wasn't your night. I hope you don't retire but whatever you do I feel you will be the best at it because of your heart. I would love to see you come back for a few more fights. Good luck in whatever you decide. God Bless and thanks for everything.

So sorry for your lost Matt...but you know what, after reading this book, I can really see where your heart is. You are first and formost a family man and like you said in your interview, this is just a hobby. It would be really great to see you come back, but I think I can see your heart is with your family and the UFC is secondary. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. We love you and no matter what, you will always be the greatest!

Matt,
I hope you continue to compete if your shoulder is ok. I saw you had a little trouble getting your One More Round hodie on. You can handle anyone in the division right now with the tool you have, except for GSP. George is just a bad match up for you style of fighting presently. You could add more to you arsenal as a fighter...you are still athletic and young enough.

Think about it Matt, what does Rich Franklin do? He can handle everyone in his division except for Silva. Does he just quit doing something he loves to do because of it? I know you are in a little different situation career wise, but you still have the tools to compete and win against probably everyone in your division, except GSP presently. Those tool will leave with time, but you show no sign of losing them yet.

GSP is young and after he wins the title back and starts dealing with more fame and other things....he might not be able to handle it and weaken mentally again. He hasn't even started the whole family thing and that can be a lot to deal with in itself. In the mean time, you could work your way back up the ranks again and work on adding some tools to your arsenal. Shoulder throws and counters to them (Karo Parisyan style), dirty boxing and clenching on the fence (Randy Couture style), more accurate crisp combinations with your striking, and changing levels during striking. Matt you have all the other tools. Challenge yourself to complete yourself as a MMA athlete prior to retiring. Take out GSP and then retire...climb the mountain!

If there is a rematch. GSP does not respect your punching power, or anyones for that matter and therefore he is susptable to getting knocked out. You must hurt him early...even if it means eating a couple of shots to do so. You must bully him. Hurt him and beat him on the fence from the clench with dirty boxing, this will take away from his athleticism and quickness. He will make mistakes if he is eating elbows and shoulders on the fence.

No matter what it has been a pleasure being a Matt Hughes fan. I have enjoyed watching you compete and I have appreciated your character. God Bless and good luck in all you decide to do....No matter what you true fans support you!!! Although I will not watch Hughes vs GSP (IV) unless you add more to your arsenal as a fighter. I cannot stand to see it!
