Matt’s TUF6 Journal - Episode 11
November 29th, 2007
![]() I apologize for the blog not being up as soon as the show was over last night, that’s my fault. The UFC sends me a DVD each week of that week’s episode; so I watch the show on either Monday or Tuesday and then Wednesday morning I give my blog to the UFC for their website. So sometimes I forget that the show is even on on Wednesday nights. First some questions:
I don’t really know, I just know that I would have had to roll like two strikes in a row to beat Matt Serra.
No, it’s still interesting to see what the guys did around the house and I’ve got two guys in the semifinals now. So, no, I wouldn’t say it’s anticlimatic. It’s just interesting to see how they cut the show up and edited it. One of the big concerns on last night’s show was Tommy’s cut, but to me it wasn’t a big deal. Tommy’s cut was definitely bad, but they gave him the most amount of time between fights as they could and I knew that the Athletic Commissions’ number one concern is safety. So I knew that if they let him fight it would be okay, because they would never have cleared him if the cut was that bad. About Team Serra’s pranks in the house, I did know about it, just from the guys coming back and telling me. I thought some of it had to do with Serra just not being a good coach. He should have been telling his guys that they needed to relax. I didn’t know anything about Ben Saunders being sick until this week’s show. So I don’t know how much they played up on that or what. It could have had nothing to do with the outcome of the fight or maybe it had everything to do with it. But still, Tommy’s just so tough. Who would have thought that guy would have gotten out of all those submissions and done so well? It just shows how tough he is and his ‘never quit’ attitude. Tommy’s training with us right now because he fights at the finale, like every other fighter from the show (except for two as I mentioned last week). For the semifinal picks, I knew what I wanted and I knew that I could get the match ups I wanted. Everybody had been talking about how good George was and how good Mac was and that the UFC was wanting both of those guys in the finals, so I knew I didn’t have to say much to get that. -Matt |

Matt,
I am glad to see that your mind is in the game eventhough things have been a bit of a whirl wind for you lately. Tommy reminds me of you as far as strength, heart and guts. This kid never backs down and is so competitive. As I have stated in your forums, America needs more men like you and Tommy. There are many men that are in the UFC that do not stack up to your devotion and charecter. I wish you luck as my wife and I will be praying for you and your family.

Matt,
You stated in your blog, “Everybody had been talking about how good George was and how good Mac was and that the UFC was wanting both of those guys in the finals, so I knew I didn’t have to say much to get that.”
I hope that wasn’t a slip as to what happens in the finale.

Man i hope that both Tommy and Mac are able to continue next week. I know that Mac is the more experienced of the two, but i believe that Tommy has more of a future in the sport because of his strength, toughness, and the fact that he is training with you in hillsboro. Tommy’s attitude is also better. Seems like someone you can mold into a champian. I was excited to see Tommy advance last night, especially after he escaped the brutal submission attempts. The kid has heart. Looking forward to the showdown with George. God Bless. I’ll be praying for you and your team. Also, it was so hilarious to see you and Robbie chasing Marc and see him fall into the pool. Seems like a great atmosphere in which to train.

Matt- Good luck on training!!!! We will be at the Vegas fight and were excited to here about St.Pierre instead of Serra. I saw the other day that Jens Pulver which I thought I remembered was a friend of yours is not in the UFC and is making his debut on WEC (I think) on VS. What are your thoughts on that, I had no idea?

first of all i want to agree with what mac said about is those serra team pranksters is that what the ufc wants representing them? i would hope not. second i would like to reply to what ben said about himself as he was walking to the suv after the fight. he said he sucked, not true, to go in and fight as hard as he did and sick on top of that makes you a winner even if you don’t get the decision.third tommy has the heart of a lion and tough as a pine knot, most would have tapped on the arm bar but not tommy, i don’t think he knows how tap. matt hughes you have trained your guys well, at least the one that would listen.hope team hughes goes all the way. i wonder if serras boys lerned how to be stupid from him?

Coach Hughes… When the 29th finally approaches, I know that you will do everything in your Power to win and give it your all. That’s just what you do; you’re a competitor. Just remember, and I think everyone who leaves you these messages would agree with me, that you Will Always be the Greatest Welterweight Champion in the History of the UFC.
(You’re in my Prayers)
-God Bless-

I had to change the channel when the guys were playing their “pranks.” When the guys are drinking and destroying property, it disgusts me. It perpetuates the negative image of athletes. I was hoping the show could eliminate the stupidity that I saw on the show. All this does is let younger athletes think that this is acceptable.
November 29th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
I sure hope it isn’t one of team Hughes guys who won’t be able to fight for the episode next week…..that would not be good……
I thought the pranks were ridiculously immature. I mean who pays for these broken toliets and holes in the walls? Do the producers encourage this to add some crap to the show to take up time? I just cringe when they are bashing walls and stuff…grow up.
Looking forward to next week!
Keep up the good work, Matt!

Tommy is a blast to watch fight. It’s scary to think of how far he’ll go with the coaching he’s getting now. Really looking forward to seeing his next fight.
Hope training is going well, Matt.
Prayers and best wishes.

Your guys have shown lately why your the better coach than Sera. I have kinda of an off-topic question. I saw that on Saturday night you were on ESPN introducing the Pitt team, how long have you been a Pitt Panther Fan?
