BREAKING NEWS: Matt Fighting Georges St. Pierre at UFC 79!

I’m going to fight Georges St. Pierre on December 29th. I’ve got a couple reasons why I’ve made this decision and I will share those at a later time. I’ve asked for this to be for an interim title and if Matt Serra can’t fight in a year, then this would just be the title fight; but I don’t know if that is going to happen right now. I will keep you all posted. EDIT: This WILL BE for the interim title, so it will be a 5-round fight. -Matt |

Matt, I love you buddy, but I hope you know what your doing. Goerge and Serra are as different in fighting styles as a John Deere and a Ford tractor. How hard is it to switch up your game plan this close to a fight? I am with you either way. I just have had my heart set on you mashing Serra’s ears together. I know you will be ready. Nahum 1:7

matt, i am so glad you decided to fight even though it’s not against serra. it just goes to show how much you are a true warrior. this will be one of the greatest fights of all time.

Alright looks like we got a fight after all! still it would have been great to see you demolish serra, but then again, St. Pierre needs a good beating too. i hope it turns into a title match. that would be even better. we’re prayin for you here in kansas matt. keep up the training both physical and spiritual!

Hey Matt! Sucks to here that Matt “The ***-Clown” Serra is not able to fight. I was hoping you were going to put him in his place the first round. Guess St. Pierre will have to take that role….
Not sure how often you read this post, but there is one thing I hope you don’t really consider, and that my friend is retirement. I remember what you said on the Ultimate Fighter about having only a few fights left in you, and my jaw dropped. I really hope you stick it out for awhile. I am a huge fan and I’m from Davenport, so I guess hometown hero place a role. Me and a couple buddies where going to be flying down to Vegas for the Ultimate Fighter Finale. Hope to see you around!! This is why you are a true champion. You never duck fights and you always step up. I admire you greeatly as a fighter and as a man. You are a terrific role model, and I will be teaching my boys about you when they are older.

I know Matt would never make an excuse, so I will do it for him…
What alot of people don’t realize is that Matt fought GSP only two months after he fought Penn. Not only that, his daughter was born at the same time and it was harvesting season. I have a hard time believing that he was able to train full time through all that. I would know because I work full time, go to college and have a new born myself. My workouts have been few and far between lately. I can’t wait to see Hughes back to his old self.

I am glad you are fighting GSP but i wish you had fought serra first, that would of gave you a warmup for GSP when you held the belt you averaged 3 fights a year and you really took it to them all, and now its been 8 months since your last fight so I hope and Pray that you have been training hard. Istarted following MMA or UFC about 5 years ago and i remember watching you fight and you are what got me hooked on this sport. I must say that i didnt become a fan of yours just because you were the champ at that time, I became a fan of yours because the way you handle yourself and how you have lived your life=(at least from what the media has shown us). So no matter what happens you will always be the best fighter pound for pound in the world. So go kick some BUTT PLEASE

Matt, I wanted to see you kick Serra’s butt but this will work as long as you are prepared! You have mentioned before about not training the way you should but it seems this time you are more focused so we are all behind you! matt, i’ve never told you this but i’m a 51 year old man, stroke victim, paralyzed in my left arm but if there is anything i can do to help you train for your fight with gsp. i’m in piedmont, al. just let me know and i’ll be there, again best of luck.

matt,it takes alot of heart to switch to a difrent fighter in such short notice, but i belive in you buddy, and, i know you took this fight becouse you know you can beat him you defende youre title pleanty of times he couldnt defend it not 1 time tahats no champ go getum matt!!!!!!!

St. Pierre has never impressed me. Your probably as strong if not stronger.
He has a good defence for ground attack of course but in doing so he leaves
alot of gaps in his game. Don’t stand like last time…go to your strengths
like always and drive him solid into the “ground”.

well matt knows what hes doing he hasnt forgot what got him to the championship just fine tune those tools buddy and beat the daylights outta him again. and as far as serra goes i doubt very seriously if he wants any of Mr. Hughes LOL. he wont get 1 punch lucky with a REAL champion

HES A GREAT FIGHTER ALSO (ALTHOUGH U R NO DOUBT MY FAV) AND NO MATTER WHAT BOTH OF U R GOOD PEOPLE. I JUST AM SO EXCITED 2 WATCH IT! CANT BELIEVE ITS 2MORROW ALREADY! CANT WAIT!
